Scary for plants, lungs, and window screens, white boat decks,

Some readers email me questions about traveling to the USVI during this time
of year. We are currently writing warnings and preparedness lists for our
active hurricane season . Hurricane season really lasts til Nov 30.
These next few weeks are the height of our dangerous storm period
historically . Mix that with tons of Sargassum seaweed stacked up on many
beaches throughout the Caribbean and our overtaxed medical facilities
burdened with non vaccinated Covid I’ll islanders, ……….
please let common sense prevail.
Most beach bars, and restaurants close normally here in the month of
September as we all need time to prepare our businesses and homes for
storms. Hurricanes are not an anomaly……they are the reality of tropical
life.
We love visitors when we are safe from storms . Please come see us
when our weather is perfect, pretty much anytime from December 1
thru end of Carnival time in the late spring.
My apologies for my honesty to our Dept of Tourism. Truth is offering
you the best experience possible.
Always ask a local.
Please get vaccinated for AH WE .

The US VIRGIN ISLANDS and some of our other island neighbors are
on the top of the DO NOT TRAVEL LIST. Hurricane season usually
slows down our tourism, and we are grateful to take the break
during our storm preparations from hosting visitors.
We all must also recognize the limits of our healthcare facilities on
our islands to meet the needs of those sick with the Delta variant
and or Covid 19.
Our positive Covid #s have been on a roller coaster all summer
and too high for our tiny population. Our vaccination numbers
in the USVI is still too low. We congratulate Puerto Rico on reaching
their high number of vaccinated islanders.
Please be careful, use common sense, stay well. As we all know
in storm season we have to always be prepared to take care of
ourselves and our neighbors.

The serious rain just started. A few puffs of memory gusts danced
the palms over night. The sea shows small rollers now.
Practice, prepare, exhale.
We are so lucky.
What can we all do for Haiti?
Come together.

Today’s pick, more to go before Grace decides to pass by. Check propane tanks,
clear the decks some more. Clear out rain guts. Did you boil extra drinking
water ?
The are putting the aircraft in the hangar tomorrow morning. It is 🥵 hot today.

Double checking the prep list . Make sure you refill your prescriptions now

roof in a few months.
The new rechargeable flashlight is testing out. Really
want to stop using anything with batteries.

The weather is deteriorating. Hotter and muggier than yesterday.
Gusts of warm scirocco breezes are a little manic. The clouds to
South and East are piling up. We hope that Elsa calms herself
and scoots right thru the island chain as quickly as possible.
We welcome the Sahara dust now with open arms.
Let us know how you are doing.
Remember Bertha July 8 1996, she was a mean girl, took

- Captive Dolphins in Sargassum Seaweed in St Thomas

The Sargassum seaweed emits sulphur dioxide. We took a day trip
from Compass Point Marina in St Thomas on Tuesday . Driving to
the East End from the NorthSide was an olfactory experience you do
not want. The smell started around Smith Bay all around East End
to Compass Point. Once we took off toward Christmas Cove the smell
dissipated.St John and beaches were gorgeous, the hills were the
greenest ever. We trolled back to the East End. The captive dolphins
do not have an option to swim in the open sea.The Sargassum seaweed
and early storm formation is related to climate change. The dolphins are
victims of local politics. Hot and dryer today.Lots of deep clouds
building. Looking forward to full moon dinner.

Sahara dust has moved in. Yesterday with humidity it felt like 89 degrees f.
We were lucky to gain footage in the cistern after showers in last few
weeks, forecasts show little rain now. We try to imagine how the folks
in St Croix will manage to clean roofs, gutters, cisterns and plumbing
systems after oil droplets overspray from oil refinery hazardous events
ruined their water collection systems.
If the world would remember how humans used to collect and conserve
rainwater and millions still do, more attention may be paid to prevention
instead of crisis cleanup. How do you clean this up without using up
what water supplies you may have left? We are so self sabotaging.
