Good afternoon. The air quality in St Maarten and surrounding islands continues to be poor.
We have a combination of Saharan dust and volcanic ash with sulfur dioxide (SO2)
The graphic is from Windy and shows the current SO2 levels over us right now.
Marigot shown on the graphic is French St Martin

Good morning
St Maarten is covered in a thick cloud of Saharan dust and maybe volcanic ash (?) this morning.
My friend, Daniel Jef, took this photo.
Met Office says “Varying concentrations of Saharan dust will affect visibility and air quality during the next few days. Persons with allergies
and/or respiratory illnesses should take the necessary precautions.”

It’s been very hazy and dusty all day here. It took our Met Office awhile but finally at 6:00 PM, they issued a dust alert.

“Did you know that this all volunteer website depends on donations from visitors like you? I need them to cover the expenses I incur by running
the Caribbean Hurricane Network. Unfortunately, donations are well below 'normal', probably because of the COVID-19 related economic crisis on the islands. So if you love this unique website featuring original content, and you don't want it to disappear, you
can show your support by visiting the donations webpage.
Thank you so much! -Gert”
So I just made a little donation to Gert. I am thankful for this site. It keeps us up to date and I absolutely love the little tool How Close Can It Get.
I try to donate whenever I can.

Beautiful weather today, unusually clear. Could see Saba, Statia, St. Kitts and for the first time that I remember Nevis.
Watching, waiting and preparing just in case Sam swings by.

We are all watching Hurricane Elsa. Wishing the very best for those in the southern islands.
Be safe and be careful.
We in St Maarten will not have much effect from the storm thankfully.
