- 4 Years ago today

On a day like today four years ago (2017) Maria ravaged Puerto Rico. Life was all about surviving one more day. Electricity was non-existent for months, rebuilding was almost impossible but the worst of it was the loss of life. The true tragedy of Maria for our island was that over 4,000 residents of Puerto Rico lost their lives as politicians (federal and state) played with the numbers to try and hide reality. For those whose lives were lost today we remember... Lest we forget...

- Sahara dust and a little rain

Sahara dust (SAL) seems to dominate the weather pretty much. It is incredible to see how thick the dust clouds are and how far they travel. The heat is bad but the dust isn't all that bad. It is a natural enemy to the hurricanes and though it brings allergies, heat and low visibility it also dries out these windy assassins.

- The rains have arrived to San Juan Met. Area, Puerto Rico

Just about noon the rains started to fall here in San Juan Metropolitan Area.
The rains are not heavy.   There is hardly any breeze as the rain falls.
Hope it keeps this way through the day

Here is a screen capture from San Juan Doppler Radar currently.

Stay safe everyone.

Would like to hear what the experience with the storm was in Guadalupe, Antigua, Montserrat and St. Croix whenever you have electricity service and can write.

- All quiet at this time

So far nothing of great importance here in the North Coast (Dorado) of the Island. Wind and waves are quiet as Grace turns a little more west and south. Lots of gray skies with just a couple of small squalls. We'll see what the future holds. As seen in the photo we even had swimmers out this morning.

The day before a storm is always interesting. Hardly ever does it feel that a problem visitor is about to make landfall as you can see from the picture taken north of the town of Dorado about 3 miles from shore. The double rainbow we had just reinforced there was some changes in the wind.

- RE: It is noon and still calm in San Juan Metro Area

Grace is affecting right now Guadalupe and Antigua.   Montserrat seems to be the next island in its path.
Acording to the 5 pm bulletin maximum winds went down to 40 mph. Doesn't seem too harsh but it still can do a lot of damage to agriculture. It has speeded up a little.   Its translation speed has increased to 26 mph, so it is comming a earlier than expected.
I hope everyone did finish their preparations.  Stay safe.

Here is link to an IR loop map of the Antilles.

Asunto: It is noon and still calm in San Juan Metro Area

Hi again:

It is already noon and we are in relative calm in Carolina, in San Juan metropolitan area.
We have had an ocasional rain in the morning, brief and light.   It is overcast but  not much happening.
For most of the morning there wasn't even breeze.  Here is a picture from the front of my home looking toward southwest.

I have been watching satellite and radar images and I find a discrepancy between the "oficial" track posted by NHC and what I can see on Doppler Radar and IR images.   The NHC places the center at 11AM south of SW PR, while the doppler radar clearly shows that it is still in the south east of PR.   It seems to be moving to the west.  Link shared to San Juan Doppler Radar
