On a day like today four years ago (2017) Maria ravaged Puerto Rico. Life was all about surviving one more day. Electricity was non-existent for months, rebuilding was almost impossible but the worst of it was the loss of life. The true tragedy of Maria for our island was that over 4,000 residents of Puerto Rico lost their lives as politicians (federal and state) played with the numbers to try and hide reality. For those whose lives were lost today we remember... Lest we forget...

Sahara dust (SAL) seems to dominate the weather pretty much. It is incredible to see how thick the dust clouds are and how far they travel. The heat is bad but the dust isn't all that bad. It is a natural enemy to the hurricanes and though it brings allergies, heat and low visibility it also dries out these windy assassins.

So far nothing of great importance here in the North Coast (Dorado) of the Island. Wind and waves are quiet as Grace turns a little more west and south. Lots of gray skies with just a couple of small squalls. We'll see what the future holds. As seen in the photo we even had swimmers out this morning.

The day before a storm is always interesting. Hardly ever does it feel that a problem visitor is about to make landfall as you can see from the picture taken north of the town of Dorado about 3 miles from shore. The double rainbow we had just reinforced there was some changes in the wind.
