At 2:30am I was yanking out of a deep peaceful slumber by a strange noise. It
was the croak of a single frog in an empty cistern! He seemed to be
complaining that he was promised an abundance of rain, yet had none.
And so it goes with these storms. Laura has slipped south to the southern shore
of Hispaniola and seems to be centered near Santo Domingo according to the
image below.
On her current track we may still get a glancing blow, but it is not likely
going to be enough to disturb my golf game with Jim Cantore! (Hahaha I don’t
actually golf!)

Good Morning from soggy TCI
The wind is still gusty but way down in intensity. For many, the power stayed
on an the hum of the AC drowned out the storm.
There are pockets of power outage that are reportedly towards the west, Blue
Hills and Wheeland.
I have not had any reports on flooding yet. I can see that I do not have a
lake around me so we must have less than 4”.

Strong winds and heavy rain associated with Hurricane Isaias continue to pound the Turks and Caicos Islands as we welcome a new morning. Reports are that some areas on Providenciales are without electricity.
While the eastern end of the country has already noted deminishing winds, rain is still falling and this is expected at least until 9 this morning. Residents of the TCI heeded the directives issued by the Department for Disaster Management and Emergencies. Flooding is a possibility, however, we expect minimal loss of property.
We are eager to say goodbye to Isaias - an 'I' named storm visiting in July. Ike and Irma did their damage but they didnt visit out of season. The seeming love affair must end.
I hope our family and friends in the Bahama chain of islands have taken every precaution to secure life and property.

| Yesterday on Pine Cay we had a couple of bands of storm pass through around 9:30 and 15:30, but no great accumulation of rain, here's a time-lapse movie looking East from Pine Cay:
And a graph of wind speed from the past 24 hours: Hard to tell what today will bring, Isaias seems to have intensified rapidly (see consolidation above), went from 45MPH to 80MPH within a few hours, but is about 90 miles SW and headed NW, so we've probably seen the worst of it.

- Stuck at the Door

| It sort of feels like we are at the door, but can not get into the dance. Oh sure it is windy, but not that windy. We have had a bit of rain, intense at the moment but only for a few minutes. The GOES image puts us just on the outskirts...
The peak will pass us at 3am or so and then the storm will head off to get better, stronger and faster. Current predictions suggest hurricane right after Turks and Caicos.
We currently have power and internet, so let’s see what happens... |

Update from John Lawson, Provo:
A quick pass by the water store, the hardware store and the gas station would indicate that the folks on Provo recognize that a storm is coming and that perhaps they should have prepped a little earlier.
This morning’s sunrise was beautiful as usual with a 20kn wind.
By 10am we are experiencing the first 25-30kn gusts with slight showers. The gusts and rain will get people thinking along the right lines, time to be inside.
Predictions are that we will see TS winds by noon and the peak (center) of the storm just after midnight.
DDME has issued a National Shutdown effective at 12noon today (thurs 30JUL) and in effect until the “all clear” is issued.
In addition, all airports in Turks and Caicos have been shut down as of 9pm last night until the all clear has been given.
My internet is already flaky so we’ll see how long that lasts. |
