Sending thoughts and prayers to folks in St Vincent as they deal with this volcano. Hoping everyone will be safe.
Also to Barbados who I know has been heavily affected by ash.
As far as SXM, believe it or not, we are under an ash advisory too. Current conditions are hot and humid with little breeze.
The sky is cloudy with a low level trough that may cause some showers, as well as Saharan dust and some volcanic dust mixed in.
People with allergies need to be careful .

Good morning
Â
Please check on the link for the St Maarten Met Office March newsletter.
http://www.meteosxm.com/wp-content/uploads/March-2021.pdf
Â
There is lots of interesting weather information in the newsletter, including
forecasts for the next few months. Of concern to me is that St Maarten is under
a drought watch.
â??Drought conditions are evolving in much of the Greater Antilles and is
possible
in the Lesser Antilles by the end of May 2021 with the exception of St. Kitts,
Barbados, the ABC Islands and the Guianas. Due to limited amount of rainfall
experienced over the past 3 months, drought conditions are possible in the short
term; by the end of May in St. Maarten.â??
I can already see our green hills are starting to turn brown. We need a good
rainfall here.

Hello everyone
Much of the NE Caribbean is experiencing high surf conditions.
Our Met Office issued this alert last night. You can also check out the web cam at the end of the airport runway and see how the waves are coming in and taking away the beach and washing over the road.

In these difficult times, when we all are staying home a lot, our Caribbean garden gives me much joy.
Last year I bought some poinsettias to decorate the house. After the holidays, my husband planted a couple in the garden.. One of them has grown beautifully all year and is now turning red just in time for the holidays.
Happy Holidays to all from St Maarten. And by the way, the weather is simply gorgeous these days.

Good morning
Last night I was peacefully sleeping in my bed when suddenly it started shaking.
The shaking woke both my husband and me up. We could hear low rumbling too.
Yep, it was an earthquake. Felt on St Maarten by many people.
This is the second tremor we have felt in 2 days.
We felt this one too.

SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN #6 - Friday, August 21, 2020 - 11:30AM **
…TROPICAL DEPRESSION #13 BECOMES TROPICAL STORM LAURA…
…A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ST.MAARTEN….
At 11AM (1500 UTC), Tropical Storm Laura was located near latitude 17.0 North,
longitude 60.2 West or about 210 miles east southeast of St. Maarten. Laura is moving
toward the west near 18 mph (30 km/h). A general west-northwestward motion at a faster
forward speed is expected over the next couple days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Some slow
strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend
outward up to 150 miles from the center.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb (29.74 inches).
On the current forecast track, the center of tropical storm Laura is expected at its closest
about 35 miles to the south southwest of St. Maarten late tonight.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:
RAINFALL: Laura could produce up to 4 inches of rainfall through Sunday over the
local area. Shower activity associated with rain bands from Laura is already affecting St.
Maarten. Moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected to
continue and intensify as the day progresses with most intense showers expected this
evening through Saturday morning. This rainfall will result in flooding/flash flooding in
low-lying areas and rock falls along hillsides, especially in areas that are already
saturated.
WIND: Storm force winds of 45 mph with higher gusts are expected across the local area
from this afternoon through Saturday morning.
SEAS: Sea conditions will continue to deteriorate today peaking near 10 feet overnight.
As a result a small craft warning is in effect for St. Maarten. Small craft operators and
swimmers should stay out of the water until the all clear is given.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of this
system and keep the public updated accordingly.

Good morning from St Maarten.
The wind is very high this morning
in St Maarten.
Definitely tropical storm force gusts.
No rain. Cloudy skies.
Government has ordered all businesses
closed by 11:00 AM. Everyone off roads by noon.
After Irma, no one is taking any
chances.
Thankfully this is no Irma.

Thankfully it does not bring hurricanes.

Good morning
Our St Maarten Met Office has put us on a dust alert since a huge plume of Saharan dust is heading towards the Caribbean.
Our Met Office Facebook post this morning says this:
Air quality across St. Maarten has begun to deteriorate as a result of Saharan
dust gradually spreading across the region. The milky appearance of the sky is due to dust particles suspended in the atmosphere. As time progress the air will become drier and dustier, persons with allergies/ and or respiratory illnesses should take the necessary
precautions and limit outdoor activities.
