We have been pleased that the weather has not created problems for us in the southern peninsula of Haiti so far in 2020. Nonetheless, we cannot forget waking up 4 years ago to the destruction from one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit this region. We actually didn't wake up as we were up all night with the Category 5 raging for nearly 12 hours as the eye passed directly over our area.

TS Laura passed over the north of the island this weekend, with scattered damage and death in that part of the country. However, there was relatively little disruption in the southern peninsula, other than some wind and rain. No significant damage reported at this point. Today is overcast and weather seems generally unstable, although having some rain is a good relief from the ongoing drought conditions. No doubt we have more weather systems coming over from the other side of the Atlantic, but hopefully nothing that will produce serious problems for Haiti, or Hispaniola.

Hi all, we were hit by a lot of rain and flooding all over Haiti. Port au Prince was like only one river at all. For now there are 11 people confirmed dead , lots of areas near the beach are flooding . Haiti is a very beautiful country but very fragile about rain and landslides. Hope we will not find more victims . stay safe all

It has certainly been a while since last writing. Weather has not been significant, things remain relatively dry but some rain has hit area - conveniently for the most part, arriving during the night. This is good primarily because it doesn't compromise our solar energy needs, being completely off-grid here. Nonetheless, we are beginning to batten the hatches for the impending hurricane season, possibly starting this next week with Gonzalo. Bon chance
