Long Island fared well on Friday, during the first storm to effect The Bahamas
this year.
Isaias, then a category 1, visited Long Island around 12 noon, when the winds
began to increase and eventually gusts to 80 mph.
While we did not receive the eye of the storm, strong winds were felt for much
of Friday, before the heavy rains ended on Saturday afternoon.
Many roofs sustained much damages, and there is much widespread flooding
throughout the island.
Power outages were primarily felt in the southern part of the island, with some
side roads being restored on Sunday.
May God protect us all as the hurricane season is upon us earlier than usual.

Hi, I live on Grand Bahama and we unlucky enough to experience the worst effects of Isaias on Saturday and Sunday past. The forecasting models indicated a tropical storm to a category 1 as it moved through our area Saturday night and ths proved to be correct. Isaias never regained Hurricane strength as she pounded GB with torrential rains and battered us with, my guess, 35 to 60 mile per hour winds. I was so unimpressed with the winds, or foolhardy, take your pick, that I only closed the dormer Bahama shutters and not anywhere else on the house. Power went off for 12 hours on Sunday in large portions of the island, not all, apparently, from about 3am till about 4pm. Crews were hampered by heavy rains and wind from acting earlier to restore power outages. There were a couple of videos on facebook showing what looked like flash flooding on Midshipman road near Balao road and Grand Bahama highway near the new bridge. A few branches, not whole trees or poles down was the rule of the day. All in all, the kind of storm most people can handle. Take care, Ryan

Other than a lot of wind and rain, Isaias left these two islands well enough alone. BPL terminated power for the duration of the storm as a precaution, and electricity is being brought back on settlement by settlement. PM MInnis will host a state of the union address this evening on ZNS. Over and out – Lord Dunmore Grouper Briland Modem Briland Modem Fund info at briland.com Harbour Island, Bahamas #242ToTheWorld |

We made it through hurricane Isaias unscathed! Isaias passed through as a category 1. We did not experience a direct hit. It was more like a bad storm. Wind and rain, no thunder or lightning. Power was out for 14-22 hrs. Lots of mangoes and avocados fell from the trees but that was it. Grateful.

Hi Gert,
I've never seen Abaco so unprepared for a storm! No shutters up and its a beautiful day. Good luck with shelters and Covid. Half the houses on Abaco are still leaking from Dorian. I have my sons running round like crazy today trying to get prepared. If a Cat 2 hits us I fear for many here. Most of Central and North Abaco still looks like Dorian hit here last week. The price we pay for living in paradise I guess. Please stay safe Abaconians. Do not ignore this storm.
