After my last post complaining about the drought, we have had 2.6 inches of gentle soaking rain here on the north coast - just what we need and it is raining softly tonight!  The south and the central areas of the island have had much more as usual - even flooding, but on the north coast we are grateful for the rain.

The south of the island has had some rain - too much in Santo Domingo, but the north of the island is parched and brown.  I have never seen it this bad.  My poor garden is wilted but I cannot use water on it when others don't have it to drink.  Perhaps 99L will send us some rain - not too much now as I have to be careful what I wish for!!!

The 2 year drought all over the island has been very bad, with the grass that farmers cut for the cows and horses now all gone.  We pray for rain but not too much as it will just run off the dry cracked earth.  So what we need are weeks of gentle rain to soak into the land - please no tropical storms just yet.  The tourists have been happy with the dry weather but they are leaving now at the end of the high season, so gentle rain please.  I was looking at the clouds tonight but they are coming from the wrong direction for rain here.  Water restrictions in force and many rivers are dry.  Goodness knows how Haiti is managing.
