Been some wet days here lately. Hooray!! Garden is definitely perking up, grass is green again, temps have dropped off - hooray!
Looks like the little blob passing us will likely be gone by tomorrow and the sun will be back out - probably in force again.
For those in the path of Hurricane Michael, stay safe out there!!

Well, TS Kirk has passed us by. Here in the south, it was fairly mild. Some heavy rains and strong winds for a couple hours starting around 10pm or so, lasted until around 2am, give or take. Never lost power around our area, Internet went down about 8pm, only
came back layer this morning. Digicel went down around 10, came back early this morning.
A little leaking under the front door, nothing a towel couldn't handle.
Hearing that the damages up north were worse - power outages, some roofs gone, lots of branches and trees down, etc. Hopefully no one was damaged too badly, and the roads are cleared quickly.
Sue - hope you get cleaned up and put back together quickly. So sorry about your roof and the subsequent flooding!!

Its amazing how dry this storm has been! Up north we have hardly had anything to speak of and yet there has been flooding in Barbados, Dominica and St. Vincent. I haven’t heard anything out of Martinique so can’t speak for them.
I got up early to shut my generator down as I ran it over night and wanted to give the oil and fuel a check over. I took the opportunity to take a drive around Cap Estate and into Rodney Bay.
Lots of broken branches littering the roads, some quite large and almost making the roads impassable in places. A number of big trees down as well and many signs having been flattened. This was certainly a lot windier storm than we expected!!
We are incredibly fortunate that this was not a full blown hurricane!! Its hard to remember how bad it really was back in 1980 when I sat through a category 4 hurricane "Allen" on a yacht in Marigot Bay. Its just not possible to imagine how bad the northern islands had it last year with Irma and Maria when we only had 50 to 60 mph winds and they had that plus another 100 mph on top!! The mind boggles!!
Here are some photos that I took driving around Cap Estate and Rodney Bay.

It was not a good night, lost part of our roof, trees down in the garden, living room and bedroom were flooded, but we are OK. Not the amount of rain we were expecting but the winds seemed a lot stronger than I thought they would be. We were lucky and kept our power but Digicel is down so no cell coverage, internet has just come back. I feel very very tired after not really sleeping last night so off to bed. Sue Beckwith

Good morning everyone. Last night was hairy for just a bit. Power went out and then the wind picked up. Windows were rattling, driving rain found a way to enter under windows and doors that were not tightly closed or had a gap. I heard the drop ceiling breathe and that's a first! Had me worried for a bit having heard reports that some buildings lost their roofs around the island. This morning at first light, a check around the house and everything is intact. Everyone in my neighborhood fared well. Unfortunately Digicel has no cell service so I have no data. We have no power here in Soufriere either so no internet. This email will get sent whenever I get cell or WiFi. Some parts of the island still have power. Krazy Kirk!
Be safe everyone

Power still off in Monier. Power outage was apparently not total island wide. I
lost phone signal & internet as the centre of the storm went through, so
couldn’t update. Centre seemed to be where the worse winds and rain were, and
it went through last night in a couple of hours in Monier. Since then mostly
gusty winds with not much rain here. Feels like a vigorous wave now. The winds
last night at the peak will have done some damage for sure. Big tree down in
neighbour’s garden. But still dark here so difficult to assess. I’ll try to
update again later this morning.

- Kirk's effect in Cap Estate

11:30 pm and its still quite gusty, the wind has come back around to the South East and East or so after battering us from the South for most of the earlier part of the evening.
The power has been off for about 2 hours and much of Cap Estate is without power from what I understand although I can see street lights on just down the road. I’m running my generator and my internet is up so all is good at the moment… Other reports of power outages all over the island have been seen.
There have been reports of some roofs off in Gros Islet, those must be on shacks or other derelict buildings as it has not been strong enough to affect any proper roofs.
I saw a photo of a big tree down across the Barre d’isle blocking it. No idea if the road has been cleared but I would hope no-one was out and about trying to get from one side of the island to the other.
I have a bunch of banana trees that have taken a beating, much to my wife’s disgust.
What is surprising is how little rain we have had so far. The Martinique radar shows quite a lot coming but we are in a hole at the moment so that is good. We expect to have some flooding by the morning.
I took my drone to the shore just opposite Rat Island around 3:30 pm this afternoon to have a look at the seas that were starting to build. Rat island was getting pummeled and I took this photo before heading back.
I will provide an update in the morning.

Hopefully, everyone is aware of the Tropical Storm and have made their appropriate precautions and preparations. Scholls have been closed today and tomorrow, etc..
So far, not much if anything around here in the south. Hot! And the sea sounds pretty angry! But for a few showers, it's been a normal day
.
The eye is expected to ask around 9 or so tonight, directly north if us, maybe 8-20 miles north of our north coast. Looks like the bulk of our rain will be later tonight and into morning as it makes its revolution...
Hopefully it continues its rapid forward motion and passes quickly, leaving some much needed rain in its wake, buy not too much to cause any damages. Fingers crossed.
Stay safe out there..

Good morning Stormcarib community, I went to bed expecting to wake up to a badly sheared and weakened TS. It looks like Kirk is more organized than last night. Wind Shear I was counting on you. What happened? NHC 5am advisory holds Kirk at 50mph. Wind is a factor but it's the rain, the flooding! I hope everyone have completed preparing or are close to completion. I will try to do regular updates once I have wifi or cell data. Be safe.

Woke up to find out that Kirk has regenerated and we are on Tropical Storm Warning.
Going to have to get husband up on the roof today and bag up my more precious items just in case. US TV is saying we could 8-10" rain which seems a little excessive, but I guess they know better than me, better make sure I have some buckets ready!
For now the kids are hoping that there is no school tomorrow and I am thinking, where did I put the candles! Its very quiet out slightly overcast and a little cooler than normal, I guess its the calm before the storm.
Be safe everyone lets hope Kirk passes over without too much fuss.

Well, much ado about what turned out to be nothing around here. Aside from the brief few showers last evening - that was it. No rain today, no huge winds (barely much if a breeze!), so of course no flooding, landslides, damages, etc. Isaac looked to be packing
a punch - but it was more like a light slap, if that.
Fortunately it seems Dominica dodged a bullet there also.. So far, all reports are of minimal rains, no damages, etc. Hooray for them.. They needed to catch a break!
Isaac looks to dissipate down into a tropical wave within a few days, hopefully that holds true and he doesn't regain strength along the way.
So, all clear around here...

Well, first dose of dark clouds and a heavy downpour (in the north end of the island). Down here in the south, still some blue skies, but they gray clouds are rolling in... Some thunder over the mountains/interior rainforest!
Looks like Isaac is starting to show his face. Cistern is full, batteries charged, car gassed up, Windows down, towels ready for any leaks, wine and Rum fully stocked up, ice made - we're pretty much ready! Lol..

So far, Isaac hasn't brought us much of anything. It's been pretty still and hot today, very sporadic puffs of breezes, and some higher clouds, but that's about it so far..
Hubby is out doing some lawn work, I'm getting the last of the outdoors items secured, but honestly - not expecting much at all around here in the south.. Some rain, a little stringer than normal winds really.. Hoping to be proved right!! I'd hate to be proved
wrong!!!

So, update. Today was absolutely breathtaking! So beautiful!! Clear blue skies, nice puffy clouds, good breeze, ocean was flat as a lake and crystal clear - amazing. The stuff postcards are made of!
TS Isaac is taking his serra time. Now forecast to pass sometime Thursday afternoon. We're supposed to start feeling the effects tonight - I doubt it.. Probably some time tomorrow. We're a good ways south of it, and it's a compact storm..
Will update as needed..

Well, Hurricane Isaac is on his way. Been watching him a couple days now, he's certainly taking his sweet time!
Looks like Dominica is up to bat yet again for a direct or extremely close hit - they really need a break from all this. Such a wondeful country with amazing people - they need a break!!
Looks like we'll get some outer bands of heavy rain and winds, but of course things can shift between now and arrival, which is forecast for late Wednesday or early Thursday. Will keep you posted.
In the meantime - it's wicked hot and dry around here. Has been for days. Absolutely gorgeous, I'm sure our visitors are loving it. Us, not so much - we definitely need rain, although not hurricane amounts of rain!! Stunning skies, ocean is super calm, St Vincent
is crystal clear to our south.. It's been amazing the last couple days - well, at least a week or so really.
Hurricane prep in full swing around here. Grocery stores weren't very busy, I expect that will change tomorrow. Outdoor furnishings being put away, etc. Will keep you posted..
Stay safe out there!

It's been a really rainy and gloomy grey day. It's still raining in my neck of this mountainous island. Latest radar pic shows clouds mainly over Soufriere... not where it's needed. Farmers on the south and east coast need more rain. They did get some today though. More rain forecast till Thursday/Friday. Random thought... Hooray!! We finally got some rain. Have had pretty much 24 hours of off and on rains, sometimes quite heavy, thunder overhead at times, and much cooler temps. The garden has perked up immensely!
Of course, that also leads to some slick roads, fuller rivers, runoff, etc. Be careful out there.
Looks like the little blob still has a little more to give. And we'll take it with thanks. Fill our tanks, fill iur cisterns, fill our reservoirs!

Well, short update. It's been an unusually dry summer so far. Although I haven't checked actual rain fall totals, down here in the south, it's been drier than normal. Our tank isn't even full yet, and usually by now it's overflowing and then some... It's
also seemed cooler than usual overall - been wearing long pants, etc way more than normal for summertime!!
Today is another beautiful day. Sunny, some fluffy high clouds, good breeze. Another beautiful day in paradise..
We could use some solid rain though.. Garden is dropping, grass is starting to brown up a bit, etc. Quite unusual for August. Makes for wonderful beach days, but gardens going dry, etc makes for sad days too...

Its been very hot today and very muggy, just experiencing a shower of rain and there is a pleasant breeze. Lots of boats have been coming into the Bay this afternoon just in case Beryl causes a problem. We understand it has swung slightly northward from its original projected path which is good for us but no so good for those that had all the problems last year. I hope Beryl breaks up and turns into nothing but a little rain which I know some islands are in dire need of. As I write this I can hear several people knocking in nails, best I go out and do the same.

The weather here in St Lucia recently has been a combination of blisteringly hot, still days. However things seem to be changing as we approach June with more rain falling particularly at night, today we woke up to find the wind had pulled down the tarpaulin on our new bar, luckily we have not yet opened but it put us back by a few days. I am hoping that, despite the forecasts, this season will be calm and quiet.

Hello all, Just a quick note since I haven't seen anyone post about it. Hail fell in Martinique today. There was also severed flooding and power outage.
The air (not the sky) appeared hazy and grey from Gros Islet to Soufriere today. Tonight we've had some heavy downpours with some lightning and thunder. A rumble of thunder as I type.
Wishing our French neighbours safety and a quick recovery.
Be safe everyone!
