All of the storms away from Haiti have brought much rain to our area, which is a quite welcome. We continue to hope, as all in the Caribbean, that whatever hurricanes are brewing will not make their way to us this year. This country in particular is not at all prepared for another hurricane, although the Disaster Industry, which profits on such events, would likely favor a recurrence of such an event. So, we wait and watch the forecasts.

- Unstable conditions

Jeremie, Grand Anse
While there may be "no active systems" at this time, we have had some significant squalls at times, with violent burst of rain and wind. Right now it seems we have another moving in our direction. While not apparently making meterological news, these incidents have the potential to cause damage and loss in the context of our local conditions. Nonetheless, we'll settle for this rather than a "formal" weather system blowing through. |

No significant impact on this region from Beryl, some rain but not enough to relieve the persistent drought conditions. Unfortunately, the social/political climate is much more stormy with widespread disruption of the country due to severe civil unrest emanating from Port au Prince. Coupled with the drought and the realistic possibility that Haiti will experience another hurricane in the near future, with increases and chronic shortages in fuel, food and other basic goods the more distant locations, such as Jeremie, are in an even more precarious situation than 6 months ago.
So, the current hurricane season is a major worry for us all. |

Jeremie, Grand Anse
Once again, anticipating more storms for this year, weather for which no meaningful preparations have been made. Unquestionably, somewhere in the Caribbean one or more large hurricanes will hit and we genuinely hope it is not in our area, which has not recovered from Matthew in October, 2016. The past month two months have brought an abnormal amount of rain for our region and this has helped in the recovery of the food-producing plants and landscape. Things are dry at this time, but things feel less stable, due in part to Alberto hitting the SE US. More to come. |
