Good Evening!
It’s great to see Nanny Cay back up and running with the new docks that they put in post Irma. Seems like a lot more space between the docks too! The Regatta is in full swing with racing each day along with later afternoon and evening activities in the village. The old Peg legs is no more but they definitely have food and beverage service out at the Galley Beach bar! Truly lovely to sit outside with your feet in the cool sand, enjoying a cold beverage. They have had specials each night for food, Thursday pasta night and tonight was BBQ night. No worries though if you want to order off their normal menu they can do that for you.

Yesterday I was able to have a lovely lunch with a close friend of mine, it’s truly amazing how the coconut Telegraph works here on the island. I’ve always said this place if like Maybery, you know everyone, so when you catch up, okay maybe gossip a bit, you get caught up with Island life in a short time.
Will post more in the morning, this sailor gal who is a mermaidgardener at heart needs to get give her muscles a rest and get some shut eye!
Alls well here in the BVI!
Cheers!

- Plastic banning!
  • By The Mermaid Gardener <mermaidgardener at yahoo.com>

Good Morning,

It’s nice to see there is a concerted effort here on the island to stop the use of single use plastics. I’ve seen the changes, no plastic straws! Paper straws with cute turtles are now adorned in the beverages.   Glad to see that there is awareness about the plastic problem around the world. In areas of Florida they have already started banning single use plastics, many restaurants are looking at alternatives.  I now go strawless in the states!

Regatta is in full swing, racing yesterday, the Regatta Village was hopping last night. Many locals enjoying the music and food venues!

Weather update: no wind! That it!
Wind 4-5 knots
Seas 3 feet

There will be spinnakers out on the downwind tack trying desperately to catch any whisper of wind today!!

Cheers!

Good Evening from Tortola!
It’s been quite a while since I posted. Have been waylaid sailing the Carribean and finally have become a CLOD (cruiser living on dirt).
I’m here in the BVI for a short time and thought I’d post what I’m seeing. Arrival yesterday from St.Martin was easy, Liat was great, Bvi Airport was smooth getting through. There is progress that I can see from a year ago when I visited, and it’s a good sign. Landed here smack dab in the middle of Regatta! Didn’t realize I’d be here for that! Oops! Well maybe I’ll be able to see some competition sailing from my vantage point.
Saw crews from Mustang and Liquid sailing teams at the beach bar Grill at Nanny Cay last night, embibing on what I would suspect is some sort of grog, probably rum based, or malt based! Lol

Weather here is: high of 82 degrees winds se at 15-17 knots with 3 foot seas.

For the Regatta competitors I’m sure the downwind tact they will have spinnakers billowing out to catch good wind!
Happy Sailing!

Rivers of sargassum are floating into the territory making for stinky rides on the $3 bus into Road Town. Shoreline packed with the decomposing sargassum.
Even water turned brown!

This is the entrance to Pussers. They are serving upstairs. No clothes, I think cold food is being served.

OOPS! I mean no clothes are on sale!

There is hope for the BVI and the surrounding islands, spring has sprung, the migration of “Silver spotted flambeau, Agraulis vanilla” butterflies.

WEST END CHECK IN

The tent is check in for west end. Very few boats there. No fuel or water at Sopers Hole.

Things are so different and unrecognizable. The little bridge to Sopers looks so different with out all the mangroves.

This view is looking back towards Pussers.
Grocery store is gone.

These are pictures from Da Best Cup at Sopers Hole, they are doing a bang good business, since there is nothing else open there, except Pussers for lunch. Food was as great as pre Irma!!

- Nanny Cay Boat yard Sunset
  • By Dear Miss Mermaid <dearmissmermaid at aol.com>

Nanny Cay report: There are plenty of de-masted boats in the boat yard along with many on the dock. It’s sad to see all these homes/sailboats that were damaged from Irma. The good news is this. Nanny Cay has fuel, the little Rite Way is open 7am to 7pm, they have been very well stocked and offer quick to go pre packaged meals. Genaker’s Cafe is open for business. Peg legs is not operating, the beach bar is, with sometimes nightly specials, they have taco Tuesday which has been very good. If you are splashing your boat there are still submerged wreckage in that part of Nancy Cay green and red small balls mark the safe way out. Still please be away of your surroundings though. The way out to the new catamaran dock area, which is now being used by monohulls and catamarans is a very sharp left turn once you get out of Nanny Cay’s original dock area out in the Sir France’s Drake Channel.
