#NEWS: Hurricane Irma/At least two dead from the storm

At least two people have died and two others have been seriously injured in the french isles of St. Barts and St. Martin following Hurricane Irma, French Overseas Affairs Minister Annick Girardin told reporters before boarding a flight to the French territory of Guadeloupe.

"The urgency" she said, "is to provide aid, to treat, to evacuate if necessary, but above all to make an assessment of the situation, which we do not have today since the communications are just beginning to return."

She added they were waiting for the winds to die down before being able to make air reconnaissance of the damage to the French territories.
