- Update

A quick update from Merida Yucatan.
This afternoon Monday Oct 7, a friend was due to fly into MID Merida Rejon
International Airport, their flight was cancelled as the airport was closed and
remains closed at this time of the evening.  A sensible precaution by
authorities.
Also, I was talking to a local fishermen who told me as many working and
pleasure craft as possible were removed from the water of the many northern
Yucatan ports this morning.  I find people in the fishing industry are often
the front line in first hand experience with many of the storms we later ride
out.
Currently in Merida Yucatan there is light rain and wind.
Finally, according to views from security cameras at my property on the coast
near Telchac Puerto, winds have really picked up making the coconut trees
appear to be dancing.  The good news is the camera is still active, credit to
CFE for keeping the electricity on and Starlink providing internet access.
Goodnight to all, stay safe.

- Hurricane Milton

 Hello.
I received your email asking how people living in Yucatan's north coast are
doing.
This afternoon, the municipality that I live in called Sinanche issued a red
mandatory evacuation order for all citizens living near the coast.
Buses started arriving to move everyone to shelters inland shortly after 2pm
local time.
The next municipality to the west, Telchac Puerto, evacuated as well. They had
already experienced some flooding from earlier heavy rains, along with some
power cuts.
As of 5:30pm local time, from my hotel in the city of Merida Yucatan, I can
still access the wifi security cameras at my house on the coast.  It appears to
show relatively clear skys and moderate wind.  I've attached a picture from the
camera to this email.
I hope everyone stays safe.

- Playa del Carmen: Hurricane Milton

Playa del Carmen: Fortunately at this time we are not expecting hurricane force winds from hurricane Milton in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and further south. NOAA currently predicts a 20% chance of tropical storm conditions. The NOAA website, which in my experience has provided the most accurate forecasts, has been very intermittent unfortunately.
