- Nov. 30- End of Hurricane Season!
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sun, 30 Nov 2025 23:25:00 -0400
That’s great, but troublesome disturbances are going to interfere with preparations for Christmas and year end celebrations . It looks bad out there. I remember one year when Trinidad had some very bad flooding after the H season and nothing was said about except by the correspondent with videos. Some places will get hit hard. We shall get a share of it according to reports I heard . All is well otherwise. This will be my last update. May God bless us all.

The Hurricane Season is winding down, but today I heard of a tropical system possibly forming in the South Western Caribbean during the first week in December. Not a definite thing, but a must watch. Here it was an amazing weather day. May God bless us all.

So clear we can see St.Thomas and the surrounding islands 40 miles away.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Thu, 6 Nov 2025 23:08:09 -0400
That should happen this weekend according to the experts. As long as it’s not a hurricane, right? We did have one in 1999! On Nov. 15th. Hurricane LENNY moving from west to east towards St. Croix. I remember it well. I was all alone in my house. So if you want to know how to experience a hurricane, it’s all in my book:  Isabel  vs Hurricane LENNY. Sold at Amazon. Hope all is well in your area. We’re praying for those hard hit by hurricane MELISSA, especially Jamaica. I miss hearing Weather Gurl Dani’i. I hope she’s well. May God bless them and us all.

It will be coming in to our area by the weekend. Rain, wind, waves, some advisories might even go up depending on how rough it will get. These days it’s better not to plan too far ahead. Let’s take life one day at a time. May God bless us all.

Well, we still have some H season left and can even continue. Let’s take it a day at a time and enjoy whatever time we have left. May God bless us all.

- Nov. 2- More Tropical Waves
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2025 22:36:05 -0400
Heavy rain surprised us tonight. It was another Tw of which more are expected. Apparently, they are not bothering Jamaica and surroundings  too much. They are working hard at getting back on their feet. Glad to hear this evening that El Salvador is sending major relief  in the form of supplies and manpower to Jamaica. Other nations have promised help as well. The many videos that have been produced after the hurricane were instrumental in bringing help to the island. Hurricane MELISSA is the star of the season. We hoped that will be all.
May God bless us all and may those who lost their lives rest in peace.

- Nov. 1 - Stormy Day
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sat, 1 Nov 2025 23:41:17 -0400
The last month of the hurricane season started out stormy. What does that mean. I guess most of the month will be stormy? I shall never forget Hurricane LENNY on the 15th of Nov. 1999! I was all alone with that one. Check out my book on Amazon (Isabel vs Hurricane LENNY). I already heard  Mr. Weatherman say that it should be quiet from here on, unless something spins up in our neighborhood. Let’s enjoy life one day at a time and do whatever we can to help those in need like the Jamaicans who are begging for help. May God bless them and us all.

Unfortunately, the devastation below is widespread as seen in multiple videos. The Government should build housing projects with strong buildings that can resist storms..The storms are going to get stronger. Fortunately, the next disturbance this weekend is not cyclonic, just a lot of rain that some places do not need. We continue praying that Jamaica gets help as soon as possible . May God bless them and us all.

We were horrified today as we saw images of Cat 5 Melissa making landfall in Jamaica. How can anyone survive that  assault!! Hours upon hours of battering.
As day dawns tomorrow we shall see the aftermath of a Cat 5 hurricane. It would be great to know that everyone is alive.
I finally saw info on the next tropical disturbance. It should be bringing some beneficial rain this coming weekend. That would be great for my new banana plant which requires a lot of watering. May God bless us all.

What an agonizing trek for the storm and the folks wanting to get over this as fast as possible . Everyone is tired. It’s been too long. Unfortunately, the longer it churns in the warm Caribbean Sea, the stronger it gets. Sorry for the folks who are going to get blasted by this monster. • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2025 22:44:34 -0400
I heard about 30- 40 inches of rain!! My heart goes out to the folks impacted. We  got 15 with Hurricane LENNY and that I thought was a lot! Slow movers are especially dangerous.. Haiti is vulnerable because of the lack of trees on the hills. It is a dreadful situation! Our weather has been very good so far, but I I heard we could have some rain bands heading our way. We just have to take it a day at a time and hope that the next tropical wave in the Atlantic is not going to be as bad. Prayers go out to everyone in the Caribbean. May God bless us all.

What is it up to? Everyone seems confused. So far the weather here has been ideal for visitors. We know a couple who are having a great time. There is rain in the forecast. That would only happen in the event that it turns Northeast . I would like to know more about the tropical wave that’s halfway from Africa. Not a word so far, except that it’s there and others are behind it. i wish everyone being threatened right now a safe “passage” through the storm! May God bless you and us all.

This storm is trying to take up all of the Caribbean space, it seems. Not sure where it’s going either. So many places to choose from. Why not all of it. Everyday, we in St.Croix, are getting  traces and signs of its huge presence. As I heard a few times, it can swerve around and give us a good splashing of several inches before it heads out in the Atlantic. Suspense reigns! May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>

Our skies today were constantly changing. No rain though. If it curves a bit northeast after passing through Haiti and Dominican Republic we will get a deluge. However, that is not definite. We shall know in a couple of days. Our hearts go out to all the folks who will be impacted. May God bless us all.

- Oct. 20- Caribbean in Suspense
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2025 22:42:00 -0400
This soon to be hurricane is huge and everyone can be affected at one point or another. The Dominican Republic can
Mm 20 inches of rain, Puerto Rico about 10 . They are in a dangerous location when and if the storm decides to move up. It will take all that RAIN over all the islands including the Virgin Islands. So let’s not think we are out of the woods. The worse part will be later this week. May God bless us all.

We got some squally weather this evening coming up from the south, it was brief but vocal enough to scare the heck out of the pets. • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sat, 18 Oct 2025 23:37:39 -0400
My thoughts are with the folks south of the island chain who are going to be the first to be impacted by 98 L. I hope and pray that they are ready. It does not have to be a hurricane to do damage but one has to prepare as if it is. We had a frightful storm on Wednesday night this past week from a trough. It lasted several hours with huge thunder, lightning that sounded like a giant whiplash right next to our house, heavy rain. We have no clue what 98L is going to do when it evolves into a full fledged hurricane but we, in the Caribbean, had all better be prepared. May God bless us all.

It sounds dramatic, but is it going to happen? We shall see, or not see. Beginning on Thursday we have an 80% chance of rain, on Friday as well, even on Saturday there‘s a 60% chance of rain. Hopefully visitors understand that this is our rainy season. The hurricane season is winding down,  but I would like to know if what Colorado State U said today. Is it over ? Or are there lots more coming? May God bless us all.

One night the forecast of 95 L brought the storm right through our area, the next  morning brought good news about it passing far from us. The same day that was not the case, and so on. So all I gathered from all of that is  that we are going to be impacted by rain and storminess by Friday. There is another tropical wave behind 95 L which is expected to develop. Not much else is known about it. We were told to monitor the disturbance and take the proper precautions as the weather deteriorates May God bless us all.

Have we seen the last of the waves coming from Africa? What’s next? After so much stress and tension of the last couple of weeks it’s suddenly quiet. But there are still two months plus to go …..
Thank God it hasn’t been busy from the very beginning of the season. We pray for those who are being and will be impacted especially these days by two hurricanes. That they will be safe. May God bless us all.

These tiny frogs celebrate big when they get rain worth cheering about! Like the rain from the tropical waves lately. It’s going to get quiet again as there is no weather coming our way soon. The soil is saturated so it’s better if it drys out before the next rain. May God bless us all.

Isabel

The saturating rain brought back our green lawn. It was almost plain dirt. One day I saw a hen pull a centipede out of the ground. This flock is waiting for Granger, the cat, to deliver a message. They usually are one level lower in the “Secret Garden”..

No signs of any rain on the East End overnight or this morning or into early
afternoon
When I took the dog out around 0615 there was patchy blue sky with a fair
amount of cloud cover. A nice gentle breeze made it quite comfortable.
I had to head mid-island for a 10:15 appointment so I closed up the house. No
rain just the occasional puddle from what, I’m assuming, was last night.

The wind is freshening to around 10-15knts with gusts around 20.

We are waiting for Invest 93 L which is apparently much more robust than the strong one last week which caused major flooding. It could even develop into the H storm. We have been told to prepare, so today the stores were extra busy with grocery shoppers. The Government has already closed public schools and offices.  Last week was a disaster. So here we are hoping it comes and leaves quickly. Be prepared. Be safe! May God bless us all.

This one was hugging Hurricane Gabrielle, traveling at the lower part as if Gabrielle had split into two systems. The hurricane part was going to pass close to Bermuda.the lower part is going to pass through the Virgin islands and Puerto Rico with very squally weather by Tuesday into Wednesday. Another 4 inches of rain is expected. This came up suddenly today so many people may not be aware. I hope and pray it will not cause major flooding like the last time. May God bless us all.

Since then we haven’t had any direct impacts. This season has been dry, very little rain, until last Thursday when we had sme chorrific thunderstorms and heavy rain for hours. The forecast called for thunderstorms beginning after 1 a.m. it did and continued through the night with huge thunders and very heavy rain. Schools closed, many people stayed home. It was the first disturbance of the season and the impacts were worrisome . According to the weatherman this evening, we can expect more moisture
on Friday and Saturday. We appreciate the rain, everything was dry and the temps were high. It is more pleasant now. May God bless us all.

We had a nice rain around 3:00am and basically nothing all day. There have been
and currently now are moderate/heavy rains. Lightning off to the south and the
air temp feels like it’s dropped 10 degrees.

A PSA - if you haven’t cleaned your gutters and down spouts I recommend you do.
I found a moderate leaf blockage in one of mine. Not only could it have meant a
loss of water into the cistern but an overflowing causing flooding too close to
the house

- 92L
  • By Steve Hess <stxrus at gmail.com>
  • Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2025 08:51:01 -0400
From what I can determine 92L has the potential makings of a fish storm.
High pressure to the north, moving eastward, and fronts moving off the U.S.
seem to be allowing for a north/northeastward curvature of what will become
Gabriel.

Currently it’s dry, hot and windy with a bit of Saharan dust. Hopefully, we’ll
get some much needed rain. Not too much too fast.

According to the latest the disturbance is tracking away from the Islands. However, sometimes there’s a change of direction, so it’s wise to keep monitoring it until it’s a good distance from us.  Would be great to get some rain as it passes. It’s been very dry around here. There are others following. Sooner or later we shall get more rain than we need. May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2025 23:07:09 -0400
As one weatherman says “an opportunity” for rain. We’ve had so little rain this hurricane season that it feels like an opportunity. Another weather spoke of various storms at thr same time in different places. Sounds line 2017 when we got swiped by IRMA and two days later got ambushed by MARIA. We had power outages from the first one and had no clue about the second one. JOSE took the opportunity to flood us just with a trail of heavy rain all the way from Bermuda. Yep it sounds like 2017!
May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Wed, 10 Sep 2025 23:01:08 -0400
Today a weatherman of the many that I listen to was almost complaining that there weren’t any hurricanes.
Well, we pray every day in church that we have no hurricanes. So there. However, it’s been so hot and dry that I am almost wishing we had a storm to cool off. Well, two are being watched right now. The second one sounds like big trouble especially since nothing has kept the sea from getting warmer and the dust has finally thinned out to almost nothing. From the middle of this month the hurricane season promises to become very active. May God bless and protect us all.

On this my 62nd wedding anniversary I’m so glad that our life has been
smooth sailing compared to the havoc of hurricanes each September. Some of the biggest hurricanes formed at this time. This first storm of September 2025 is an enigma so far. All I can see is that it has a 60% chance of developing and should be in our area by the 11th; it is not clear whether It will affect us directly or not; we have to monitor it very carefully so that we can be ready for whatever comes. That one should be for the following week. Whether it’s going to affect us in any way is still to be seen. Perhaps not, however, there’s a lot more left to the

We did not get the severe thunderstorms that St. Thomas and others were getting, but maybe that’s yet to come. We are happy for the rain, not torrential, just rain and the cool air. The weather has been hot and dry . We were informed that these conditions will continue until Monday 18 at 6pm. The storm should pass during these next days some 200+ miles to the north. It is, however, going to spread rainbands as it does according to the weatherman. Just hope we get some. It has been dry and hot for a long time, just a few sprinkles now and then.
Here is proof. This beautiful double Bougainvillea thrives on dry weather. There are many TWs behind this storm, unless the dust got them so we should be getting some decent rain before the end of the season. May God bless us all.

T.S. ERIN is on its way to our neighborhood. How close will it get? That’s anyone’s guess. It has moved a bit south, but was still  expected to curve up away from our islands. It is to become a major hurricane while in our area. So far no land appear to be in danger of direct impact. We pray that will be a reality. May God bless us all.

It is no longer an Invest. The dust took care that it did not develop into a serious threat. There is a lot of rain with this wave and we have a 60% chance over the next three days. That’s excellent for those of us who count on rain for our cisterns. We have 2 other tanks for outdoor watering, etc.that way we don’t have to use the cistern water. Too bad that the dust is not going to be around for the next disturbance which looks quite strong and troublesome. We must prepare well and pray. May God bless us all.

Flash Flooding will happen with this system; thanks to the dust in the area there’s no chance for developing into a tropical storm. However, a larger tropical wave emerging from Africa will become a greater threat to the islands. Both dust and wind shear will be absent making it more conducive to development. Be prepared, be safe. May God bless us all.

it is our hope in the Caribbean that the dust will remove the sting and the ferocious wave will be reduced to showery beneficial rain. That would be great as many of us are dry. The fast moving passing showers are also not enough to fill the cisterns. So we need rain. May God bless us all.

It is kind of scary to hear of so many waves at the same time so early in the season. However, we still have the Saharan dust in our favor. It inhibits the formation of storms. Regardless, even without a tropical system, the  rain that accompanies the wave is quite significant, and it can cause flash flooding, landslides and other unfortunate situations. May God bless and protect us throughout the season.

That was Accuweather’s prediction yesterday. However, one season had 30 and we were not touched. So, no need to panic in advance. We panic if one targets us . If we prepare well for it we won’t panic, unless perhaps you’re all alone. That was my situation with Hurricane LENNY in 1999. The only good thing about the gray is that it helps to break up possible storms. I think we have one more plume of dust to go. There are a couple of tropical waves off the coast of Africa that are stronger than usual for this time. There is concern that they can hold together and become a threat in the future. Normally it takes one and a half to two weeks for a storm to arrive in the Caribbean  depending on how fast it is traveling.  Sometimes they dissipate. Except for the little tropical wave with its brief roar of thunder on Saturday the entire month was mostly dust and wind, except for quick passing showers every now and then. What is in store for July is another story. I have heard that the middle of the month could bring us trouble from Africa. Many tropical waves are expected. The Saharan dust will probably be completely out of the picture and therefore it will be all open for the formation of storms. We hope we will be spared a major storm this season.   May God bless us all.

- June 20 - Very Windy and Dry

This month has been free of tropical activity and rightfully so, however, there has been great expectations throughout the day about the first tropical waves to emerge in July by the middle of the month or sooner. Rain will become a more frequent occurrence as the days go by. We expect passing showers tomorrow according to the experts . We would like refreshing  rain to cool off and to bring back the green. May God bless us all.

- June 19 - Saharan dust still with us..

It’s good and it’s bad. It keeps storms from forming , but will it be around when when we need it? Doubtful. I heard about the possibility of tropical activity in July. When it comes from Africa we can expect weather trouble. If it’s only rain, we can use that for sure. It hasn’t rained for quite a while. May God bless us all.

The dust is still with us to a lesser degree and we have a better chance of rain during the next few days. May God bless us all.

The sun  peeked out a few times today otherwise it was gray and windy the rest of the day. We haven’t had real rain for sometime; I’m concerned that when the tropical waves start emerging in our latitude it will be like the east Pacific, one storm after the other. May God bless and protect us all.

No rain is causing our lawn to start looking sick. It has lost it’s healthy green color. Too much rain is not good either. What’s happening on the east coast of the Pacific will be happening to us when it’s our turn. May God bless us all.

It was a great day ..the  dust looks like much less at times then once again it looks rather thick. At 3:35 this afternoon I looked directly into the sun:
It did not hurt my eyes. Then it cleared enough to make a difference.
For us it was a very happy day.Hope yours was too. May God bless us all.

No rain today but the variety of faces of today’s weather was very interesting. It ended with our first beautiful after glow of the season. Happy Fathers’Day to all fathers. And may God bless you and us all.

According to the weatherman it probably will not form, however, at the bottom of the screen the A name appeared as if to say it has a good chance of becoming the first storm. Let’s hope not. Our day was very warm with a nice breeze. Without the breeze it would be very hot. Let’s hang in there and start preparations as early as we can. May God bless us all.

Fast passing showers seem to be the weather sport of our days. Today was very stormy on and off, then the sun would actually shine on us through the clouds and the haze, however, that’s going to change soon as more and more tropical waves come off the coast of Africa. May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2025 22:23:06 -0400
We had some sunshine on and off throughout and dark clouds threatened, but no rain in Christiansted. It seems that the dust is a plus for us;  it helps to keep the sea cooler and definitely keeps storms from forming. Let us use the time we have to prepare for whatever may come our way. May God bless us all.

There will come a time during this hurricane season when we will thank God for Saharan dust. It keeps the storms from forming into monsters. The time is now. After this dust is passed the tropical waves will be coming through the Caribbean according to one expert. May God bless us all.

This is how it was all day. I expected the 50% chance of rain but not a drop. Tomorrow there’s another 50% chance of rain. More dust..? We shall see. May God bless us all.       Isabel

- June 8- RAIN !
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2025 22:36:47 -0400
It was not an all day rain event. There were sunny skies in between, but when it rained it poured. This is the season when we have to be prepared for rain with all the tropical waves coming from West Africa. We just hope and pray that the season will not be too violent. We haven’t had a hurricane since 2017 when Hurricane MARIA brushed pass as a Cat 5 storm. May God bless us all.

We had a good downpour this morning and intermittent rain this evening. The air was so pure and cool afterward. According to the forecast we should be having rain through the night . May God bless us all. And a happy Pentecost Sunday to everyone especially those who observe it

A pleasant, partially hazy day, the breeze is great; one can even go to the beach; the sea is quite calm. However, it is suppose to start raining during the weekend. That can ruin any outdoor fun.  Be well. Be safe. May God bless us all.

Rain returning after the last bit of dust vanishes. Next week is suppose to be wetter . Make a to do list and check it more than twice . It’s better to prepare early than have regrets. May God bless us all.

Very choppy sea, very windy at times, very heavy passing showers at times. As predicted 50% chance of rain. Sorry
for what is happening in Guatemala. Non-stop rain caused life threatening floods, which took some lives. Next week there should be more action closer to home. This season started out strong.
May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni

What a difference! We even received a few refreshing showers this evening. Farther to our west there are scattered storms everywhere. There’s a 50% chance of rain for us tomorrow. Seems that by mid month it will begin to get more active as the tropical waves dip into the Atlantic Ocean from West Africa. Let’s prepare for the worse and hope for the best. May God bless us all.

Not anywhere near us, but three! That’s quite active for the second day! No wonder there is so much tension about this hurricane season. So far the Saharan dust is having a field day in our neck of the woods. Visitors are puzzled about the haze. They expected blue sky and sea, obviously they don’t check with the experts. This plume of dust was expected. We hope it starts clearing out by tomorrow. May God bless us all.

- Fwd: June 1 - Hurricane Season 2025
  • By Isabel Cerni
  • Date: Sun, 1 Jun 2025 15:53:41 -0700
Helloooo, Caribbean neighbors and beyond! Are we ready? The experts are predicting a very active and destructive hurricane season. It only takes one to make it the worse season for us. They compare this season with 2017 when IRMA and MARIA and JOSE were the chief culprits which,  affected us the most. Fortunately, we survived, but Puerto Rico had thousands of fatalities. Let us hope and pray that everyone can survive this season ! May God bless us all !

Saharan dust. What color is missing? BLUE!  Blue Sky and sea…
