Shortly after 12 this afternoon, our cable and internet were restored. Power in my area came on Thursday, 14th, around 4PM. Received about 6 1/2 inches of rain in my area, (south). Assume, depending where you live, it would differ. Some areas hit much harder than others, trees, poles, some roofs. Some areas look like there was never a storm. Thoughts and prayers to those still recovering and struggling. May God give you strength....Ken

Amy DeanDate: Thu, Sep 21, 2017 at 11:26 AM Subject: RE: Montserrat Hi Gert, I’m finding all of this out by facebook (from official and personal posts) but I suppose it could be helpful for those who are worried about friends on the island who haven’t heard anything. Some services and government departments appear to be opening on Friday, and full service will be resumed on Monday. Power is expected to be back on in the next couple of days but there’s no specific idea of when. Some areas (roads) remain dangerous and impassable, mostly in the north of the island. Somebody posted that the highest wind speed recorded by the Montserrat Volcano Observatory was 80 mph (129 km/hr) at 3pm on the 19th September. This puts it borderline Tropical Storm, Cat 1 Hurricane maximum. I still haven’t heard from a lot of my friends, but those who are managing to post don’t seem to be overly worried about the island so I’m hopeful that it escaped relatively unscathed. It certainly seems as though they expect business as usual from Monday. The best place for interested people to look for information is the ZJB Radio Montserrat facebook page, where the government posts all of its official communications. https://www.facebook.com/MNISpirit/ Amy

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Amy Dean Date: Wed, Sep 20, 2017 at 9:48 AM Subject: RE: Montserrat To: Gert van Dijken < gert at vandijken.com> NDPRAC Press Statement The National Disaster Preparedness Response Advisory Committee (NDPRAC) has issued a “ partial all clear” for Montserrat with immediate effect. This means that only essential services are allowed on the roads to ensure works are carried expeditiously to clear all roads and restore essential services island wide. ... Electricity is off island wide and most of the road network across the island have been affected by downed trees and power lines as well as other loose debris especially in the north from Cudjoe Head to Look Out.. Also, some areas are still impassable and dangerous. Emergency Service Crews are currently carrying out assessments to ensure that all roads are safe and vital services are restored. Her Excellency, Governor Elizabeth Carriere and the Honourable Deputy Governor Lyndell Simpson have announced that all Government offices will remain closed until further notice, with the exception of essential services. However, Senior officials in each department will ask staff to report to work according to the specific needs of their departments. All private and public schools will remain closed for the rest of the week.

From: Amy Date: Wed, Sep 20, 2017 at 5:36 AM Subject: Montserrat To: " gert at gobeach.com" < gert at gobeach.com> Hi Gert, I’m not on Montserrat right now but have been gleaning details from facebook friends there. It seems they have no power right now but the island escaped the worst of Maria. There are reports and photos of some downed power lines and trees and a couple of roofs came off but most of them seem to be giving big sighs of relief. Amy

Good evening everyone.Today we had a squall, late morning. I was on the road at the time, and I almost had to pull over. That has been the only squall so far. A few outer band wind gusts this afternoon. As of this moment, just breezy conditions. Just heard it is now a Cat5. Looks like it's going to be a long, and devastating night for some of the islands. I expect things will change for us through the night. My prayers go out to all who will be directly affected in its path. May God keep you safe....Ken

Good night all...As noted by the Antigua report, I recently came across this site, ventusky.com as well. Worth a look. As night time comes upon us, may we be safe, and as daylight comes, and the storm nears all of us, stay safe. Thoughts and prayers to all of our neighbors....Ken

Watching our U.S. CNN coverage of the damage from Irma, and seeing reports from our neighboring islands, I am brought to tears. Why some and not others. No one needs the destruction we face, but some need help more than others, to recover. Help however you can, please ....we are a family down here. God bless...

Good day everyone, (so far). Not much to report at the moment. Getting a little breeze, off and on sun. I was surprised at the number of homes were not hurricane proofed. As was mentioned by someone, you never know when a little wobble in the storm will happen. I would rather be safe than sorry. Once the storm hits, it's to late. So heed the warnings of the experts please! Stay safe everyone, and may God watch over you all...Ken

Good night all..Last night, we had a few passing showers, starting about 1AM. By sunrise, cloudy and hazy. Occasional misting/sprinkles today, and by 5PM, we have had continuous light showers. A few rumbles toward our neighbors, Nevis, St. Kitts. As I write this, we are being poured upon, but will, I hope, be O.K. Talk of landslides , and flooding from our neighbors, I can see at any moment it will anywhere. Stay safe everyone, may my God protect you....Ken

Good night everyone...Learned last week of a system coming in our direction. Never heard of it before, living here 16 years, but then again, I am by no means an expect on weather in the Caribbean. It is called Madden Julian Oscillation. Googled it, interesting. Another neighbor island showed a potential wave passing us in days, to come, maybe over us. Be prepared, stay safe. Have a great evening from the island of Montserrat...Ken

Overcast, most of the day...we appear to be at the "very" end of any activity. Looks like a it will affect our southern neighbors. Any storm, as small as it may be, will take its toll on someone in our community of islands. Stay safe in this passing storm.

Good night to our neighbor islands. You have probably been as dry as us for the past few months. Had a wonderful rain shower here for about 45 minutes...Just listened to the wonderful sounds, it has been a long time. Nature has been singing the praises, especially the tree frogs! Have a great weekend everyone. ...Ken
