Hello Everybody,
What about Guadeloupe today ?
A second person died. This person didn't obey safety instructions : This person decided to visit the sea and was brought off the coast.
Caribean sea side of island is very devastated (specially roads). Sea entered into downtown of Deshaies and Sainte-Rose (North of Basse-Terre Island).
But overall Guadeloupe is alive.

Hello Everybody,
I've just called my mother. She told me that water and electricity are out between Le Moule and Sainte-Anne. Sadly one person died in Guadeloupe because this person didn't obey Authorities safety instructions. A Fallen tree killed this one. Two others persons are being searched for. They were in a boat off Désirade island (!!) when they disapeared. About 80 000 houses are without electricity. A lot of débris of trees around my parents house. They will begin to clean tomorrow.

Hello Gert,
News from Guadeloupe
I live in Normandy in France. I called my parents who live between Le Moule and Sainte-Anne. My parents and family have no casualties or havoc. Just power is out. Grande-terre has been spared overall. Basse-Terre city area : First estimates are under way. Eye of Maria passed just near Basse-Terre City. Radio Guadeloupe and Radio Caraïbes International are still working. A lot of Winds at about 3:00 AM according listeners of radio Guadeloupe in Le Moule.

Hi Gert,
We're expecting the hurricane to make landfall on our island during the night. "Météo France" has issued a strong warning because of severe winds around the eye and 215 kph gusts [They now have issued a 'purple alert', the highest level. -Gert]. Heavy rainfall and flooding are expected to occur in the south of Guadeloupe.
I'm living in a concrete house at Saint-François in the East of Guadeloupe, it's already raining much and winds have started to blow.
People got prepared earlier this morning, buying all the necessary goods and needs to face the hurricane and as well for the aftermath.
I personally bought spring water and canned food to make sure I can survive in case of too many traffic jams.
That's it for now Gert... let's stay in touch. I keep you posted about the situation here in Guadeloupe.
Best regards,
Philip Delos
