Ambergris Caye - weather is generally nice but something is coming Friday.
All predictions are for it to go up the Yucatan Channel and if that happens
we’l get the outer edges of weather only.
If something stalls it, we have an issue.
Happening fast. From nothing to 90% probability of formation in under 24
hours. October can be a real headache in our area!
Thoughts still very much with all the people on other islands —— their plight
fades from the big news screen, but we know that the really difficult times are
now and will continue.

To everybody in our region …….
We stand in solidarity with the people who have lost everything and who will
suffer through a long process of recovery - with regards to Puerto Rico we
stand astonished, crushed, horrified and baffled ……. We cry for Dominica …….
the Virgin Islands …… Barbuda ……
As for our area - October is tomorrow. October is our very own hurricane
season. Given the predictions and the number of storms so far, we are keeping
our eyes open.
As for today ……… around 3 AM a very strong electrical storm hit with torrential
rain.
It continued non-stop until 5 AM and even now at 5:30 there are still some
flashes and rumbles.
LONG storm and crazy loud. Will be curious to see how much rain fell.
Cisterns must be filling well. My guess is that a few boats sank, but only
daylight well tell us that. You’d have had to be suicidal to go outside in
that storm!
Weather map looks like a lot more rain is on its way. Am glad that the thunder
and lightening have slowed down - my dogs definitely need a potty run outside!
A fundraiser is scheduled in San Pedro Town today and I hope the rains don’t
cause a problem - good people are raising money for earthquake victims in
Mexico.
Also today is dedicated to a nationwide waterways and beach cleaning by
citizens - hoping we will have sufficient breaks in the rain to make this
happen.

My guts ache for those in the path of Maria.
it doesn’t even seem real.
The only consolation is the spirit of the people. Maybe we’re all learning a
lesson about brotherhood - I sure hope so because frankly I cannot see anything
else good coming from this mess.
Pray that this season is over soon - yesterday would not be too soon.

We’re fine here in Belize. Hurricanes missed us so far, earthquake woke us up
but didn’t break anything.
Our Red Cross is doing fundraising for storm victims.
We’re watching in shock and hurting for those who got smashed - and frankly I
am slightly freaked out by the NHC map for today. Disturbance #1 headed
along the same track as Irma? Can this be real?
ENOUGH ALREADY — the islands have had more than their share of grief.

Dear Island Friends in Irma’s path --
We’re with you in our hearts and sick inside thinking what you are going
through right now.
Prayers, good thoughts, tears —— all coming your way from Belize.

8:45 AM Monday on Ambergris Caye.
Minimal breeze, calm seas. Bright sun through high clouds. I made a pinhole
camera to watch the eclipse but it’s probably going to be a no-show here.
Glad NASA will be doing a webcast.
An absolutely MONSTER hatching of mosquitoes - way beyond anything I remember.
Almost hoping for a teenie-weenie hurricane to wipe them out.
In anticipation of a storm many people did basic prep on Saturday. We’re
leaving things in place until the weather passes.
Not expecting anything too messy, but always good to be prepared.

Franklin was (thankfully) a non-event here on Ambergris Caye (weather-wise
anyway).
Preparing for Franklin was a major event for the people involved …… which
was/is most of us. We did all the things we needed to do to be ready. Today
we are undoing all the boards, etc. We’re tired but happy.
Soft weather, boats are getting back in the water, bits of hard rain now and
then, breezes from unusual directions. Sargassum taken away.
No complaints.
Hope the good people of Puerto Allen are ok.

Hi Friends
We’ve been busy here on Ambergris Caye. Everybody is ready for Franklin.
Wisely prepared for the worst, although expecting something relatively moderate.
Shelters open. Liquor sales halted. Airports closed. Many places boarded up.
Boats now in port with no further water-taxi service available. Humane
society boarded out the dogs (I predict some adoptions will result).
The day has been alternatively bright gray and dark gray; calm and stormy.
Intermittent very heavy rains. Now as the darkness approaches we can see, hear
and feel the sea level rising. Subtle but powerful swells are arriving at the
shoreline.
Franklin is due to arrive in the middle of the night. We’ll figure out what
happened when the sun comes up. Pretty much everybody is sheltering in place.
Well prepared, intelligently concerned but not particularly frightened.
We had some very heavy rains earlier in the day - now the real stuff is
starting. Hard hard rains. Here we go.
Flooding is a concern for mainland.
See you tomorrow.

Not a hint of breeze. Soft air. Silver sky and sea. Plants thriving in sweet
rain.
The big weather-blob out in front of us is impressive on the satellite and we
are watching. Time to see if raingear is in good condition.
Happy Father's Day to all....

On Ambergris Caye today the weather could be described as "variable" ....... the skies go from partly cloudy to overcast back to some-blue with the occasional rainstorm visible out to sea.
We know that there is weather out in front of us but body seems particularly alarmed. Just now noticed that pressure has begun to drop. Still a beautiful day on the beach.
I own two homes. One on AC and the other on Isla Margarita. Both islands are in areas of interest right now..... Blessings to Venezuela as stresses continue.

On Ambergris Caye the weather goes from sunny to cloudy back to sunny ...... Sun showers yesterday with magical rainbow over the reef. We expect that big rains are on the way.... Islanders look forward to filling cisterns and watering plants. San Pedro Lobsterfest is ON through Sunday the 25th. Rain or shine, the food rocks.

Super-windy today - easy to get sand-blasted if you take a beach walk.
Heavy overcast.
NO sargassum at the moment (yea).
A bad day to wash windows or dive, a good day for relaxing or catching up on
paperwork in-office.
Weather in 2017 has not followed the “usual” patterns …….. rains came early,
winds came late.
