The excessive heat warning is posted again today. The index is 103 F right now.
We are all hoping the night temperatures will  come down.We aren’t feeling any 
cooling off over night. We have been under heat advisories since early May. 
Going into 5 months straight of very high heat indexes. We had very hot yoga at 
the beach at 9 am today.

Harry, 

Thanks for the temp charts. What I see from your charts and feel every night 
are that the low temps are higher. We never cool off enough at night the way we 
did 10 years ago. 

Looking for some cooling. 
Agreed, we do not have the passing showers and breezes we used to have. 

Never in October have I wished for rain.  I’m wishing for it now. 

I usually start my vegetable garden for season this week of every year.
It is just too hot to start seeds right now where I live. Even, the sprouts I 
usually grow every week have turned to mush in this heat. 

So far so good on the storms this year for us. So, no complaints.

Heat Advisory again. It is 104 f degrees Fahrenheit at our airport right now.
If you understand density altitude, you can understand how hard it is to take 
off
fully loaded during the heat of the day. I was on a 737 leaving out of St 
Thomas on Oct 6 , in same heat and they removed 4 passengers and luggage. I 
have never heard of this on a major airline. We see this on smaller 10 place 
aircraft all the time. 

High temps and aviation are not a good mix. 
Be patient.

102 f index at airport, 91 f real degrees in my house right now. You can tell 
some weather is coming with this intense heat. It was 97 f index at beach yoga 
at 9 am.
Hard to imagine or downward dog thru. Now I know what they mean by HOT yoga.

We had loads of rain in 2 hours yesterday afternoon. We COOLED down.
The pool is over full and 82 f degrees; the coolest since late April.
The blankets came out last night. An amazing sunny cool morning in September 
is our reward. Keep looking East and hope those tings go FISHING. 
We have a ways to go til November gratitude.

Good Morning,

At around 7:30 last  night I thought we were in a nothing burger. By 9:30 pm
I knew Ernesto was going to be an overnighter. We were in a car wash rain with
gusty winds all night. Very little thunder and lightning .

Obviously from this morning movie you can see that the
foliage held. The winds did not go above tropical storm strength, so we got 
very lucky. The built up rain is now starting the usual flooding in our
driveway and guts. We are seeing gusts to 44 mph on the airport report.

Ernesto’s tail will be around for a few more hours. I hope we hear from our 
friends in the BVI , St John and Puerto Rico soon. I know Jost Van Dyke took a 
lashing.
The difference between the  50 mph winds 
we felt and the 110 mph winds visiting the NW coast of Puerto Rico now  is 
enormous. 

Grateful is my word for the day.

If it is Ernesto coming or anyone else in the alphabet it is time to relieve 
anxiety for the long term. We had the 3rd propane tank delivered today, cash on 
hand, pantry full,
and paid beaucoup $$ to have the coconut palms get their annual haircut.
Hangar space has been found for aircraft. We see that the marinas are emptying .
We will keep clearing our decks as we usually do this time of year. You can’t 
wish storm season away, you can’t deny the inevitable. The readier you are the 
better your mind 
can re-adjust to island living as we do every year at this time. It is REALLY 
HOT today.

It is a rainy dark morning in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Fitting our mood. 

It was visiting Negril Jamaica several times in the 1980’s that brought us to 
moving to St Thomas in 1993. We hope the news from Negril and all of Jamaica 
isn’t as awful as Beryl made it look last night. We know the Jamaicans will 
stand up .

Over 25 years ago we visited the now devastated islands of Carricou, Mayreau ,
Bequia, the Tobagos.  The clearest  cleanest water
of the Tobagos became the benchmark to match . Gratitude for that experience is 
imprinted in our memory’s colors. 

Hurricanes are our way of remembering where we were, where we have been, what 
we have survived and what we have lost and found. We refer to Hugo, Marilyn, 
Bertha, Tomas, Dennis, Ivan,Mitch,  Irma and Maria among many others as our 
references in time and now ….Beryl ……is burned into our brains. 

The seemingly impossible task of moving forward for the survivors of Beryl 
while she continues to terrorize those in front of her seems hard to fathom. 
The overwhelming 
urge to give up is understandable. Hurricane Irma changed my  psyche forever . 
Finding the energy to pick up and move one more pile of destruction is hard to 
come by. 

Caribbean people, we take our lashes, we live on. 
We stay ready for the next time. 

Please post your emergency relief organizations and links to help the survivors.
We have donated monthly to World Central Kitchen for years. They are already 
feeding people in the islands today. 

We are AH WE ; the survivors. The joy of still living is the gift.

Good Night Islanders, 

We are AH WE . We have all shared past hurricane experiences and feel your 
anxiety and send you the power of our collective empathy. 
We know you know what to do. Patience is our virtue and our skill.
We know how to drive slow over bad roads thru downed wires and trees ,
and know how to stand in lines for ice. 

Beryl is a bad bad tight buzz saw. Cat 4-5 is horrible. She is moving now at 18 
mph.
Do the math over and over on when she will be passed you and hang on to the 
light at the end of the tunnel. 

Tuck in, exhale, understand how strong you are. Tuesday will be a much better 
day.
Get thru Monday. Live small.Take care of yourself, your family and your 
neighbors.

As John said “ Life is what happens while we are busy making plans”.

Here is our first one for 2024.Every year’s crop is different. Although they do 
seem to start ripening at exactly the same time as last year’s . This first 
pineapple is smaller by half than last year’s first. I attribute that to 
intermittent drought in February and March. We can usually grab these before 
the birds start poking holes in them. First taste was fabulous as always. They 
are so easy to grow. 

Martha, from Antigua, your Hurricane Hunter story is awesome.Thank you for that.
May all of our roofs hold this season. The sooner we prepare the less stress we 
will have. It is constant perimeter clearing and stocking up. Just ordered  a 
third propane tank for season. Time to go up and clean and tighten solar panels 
and gutters too.

After a week of heat advisories, high humidity, rain…..at last we have 80 
degrees F right now, and gorgeous puffy clouds with blue skies. We see more 
rain coming Monday but will take the cooler cloud cover for Memorial Day

We’ve had plenty of rain from this system coming up from South America.
It rained hard off and on all night. We are still hearing of rolling blackouts. 
Our off grid system allows us to have working fans and we were grateful for 
them last night. 
The tree frogs let us know when the rain let up. Opening and closing windows 
was an hourly task. You can see that more rain is coming up the island chain to 
meet the moisture coming from the SW. And a disturbance is forming north of us. 
Pretty early in the season to see the Lows marked. The Water Mon can rest now.

We had a wonderful Carnival. The rain held off to the end of the Children’s 
Parade and brought us 6-8 inches Friday night. The forecasted rain for Saturday 
and Sunday held off thru the Adult Parade and Utopia Concert.
