- Beryl on Jamaica

Good morning,

Sorry for my late response.
I live just outside Falmouth,  Trelawny.
Falmouth does not seem to have had a major infrastructural damage. Mainly downed trees.
I think this is the same for 3/4 of the island.
About 60% of persons have power now.
Claremont, St Elizabeth and Westmorland have been the worst hit which is where the eye came closest to. There have been 3 reported deaths. Most of the structures had a lot of damage to roofs and walls.
I don't think there has been a comprehensive assessment as to the amount of damage in those three parishes yet.
Kingston still has areas without power which is a reflection of the 60% island wide. Cell  service is back in most areas but persons phones are dead so cannot communicate.
I will give another update in a few days. Most of the island had rain last night. I measured 1 1/4" of rain. During Beryl I measured 5 1/2" but I am sure it was closer to 8" as during the storm the rain was blowing horizontal. I estimate during the peak I had winds gusting to 80 - 85 mph.
I have no power or Internet so using phone data to send this message.

We are here and grateful.

We have no electricity or water.

Some of the roofs in our area are partially damaged.

Trees fell and blocked parts of the roads.

Some southern areas were badly damaged.

We have reports of power lines down in Rocky Point, Portland Cottage and surrounding areas and roadblocks from trees.

Reports of damages in St. Elizabeth also.

Awaiting more reports.

Be safe!

- Category 4 Hurricane Beryl

So Hurricane Beryl is right on our doorsteps as a Category 4 system. The forward speed has slowed down from 22MPH to 18MPH as of writing, which is not good for us.

We are currently feeling light winds at my location (Clarendon).

Tropical storm to hurricane wind speeds are expected here and we have prepped as much as possible.

We are hoping for a safe journey through this hurricane as it will affect the Southern Parishes mostly.

Be safe everyone!

- Hurricane Beryl Alert!

Good day!

As Hurricane Beryl approaches Jamaica, we are imploring everyone to be as prepared as possible for this very dangerous storm.

To me this seems very similar to Hurricane Ivan (2004) which caused catastrophic damage mostly to the South of the island.

There is some wind shear South East of the island which is forecasted to lessen the Hurricane's wind speed just a bit.

As of writing, Hurricane Beryl is a very strong category 5 storm with wind speeds of 165MPH (265KMH), moving WNW at 22MPH (35.4KMH).

I will see how best I can update during the hurricane.

Be safe everyone!

- Strong Tropical Wave.

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update.

The strong tropical wave is currently passing South of the island hence most of the rain was more focused in the Southern Parishes.

Kingston received some strong winds and rain yesterday (June 26) and some small damages were seen.

Here in Clarendon some strong winds and heavy rains passed over us in the night, along with intermittent heavy rain and light rain into the early morning.

Satellite images currently showing scattered clouds in and around the island, some more rain is forecasted.

Stay safe!
