Tortola and Virgin Gorda (BVI) Update

After Turkey Day

Well..... I did it.  Over ate like a huge Pig.... PlateHad a very nice pumpkin soup then a huge portion of light and dark turkey, dressing, roasted potatoes, steamed veggies, garlic mash potatoes, glass of wine and then a large slice of Pecan pie with ice cream and whipped creamPlate.....all of that was after a couple of drinks watching football.  OMG was it GOODOpen-mouthed smile  BUT... I felt like I was going to explode any moment..... I Never Learn when it comes to over eating at events like this.  In half an hour I was almost hoping I would die just to be over the overstuffed feeling I had.  Ended up walking back to the Airport where I was going to take a taxi to the boat, but rather than take a taxi I walked all the way then only felt like I was afraid I may die.  The brisk wind on the dink ride from Penns Landing to the boat was good for me, cool and fresh.  I almost felt human again!  Some how I managed to get ready for bed, brush my teeth and fix a bottle of water with lemon to take to the cabin.... I knew I would need water with my body breaking down all the protein I had shoveled into my mouthSad smile.  Glad the seas had eased up a bit and were only rocking me to sleep.  That took about 3 seconds... I was fast asleep before my head settled into the pillow.  I always say never again but always end up over eating at holidays.

Temps look like about 84 as a high for next few days and winds 14 to 20 knots with what looks like fewer gust.  Seas are 4 to 7 feet still with some Northern Swell to them.  Looking at the Sat images below, I can see less of a gradient between fronts and that means less chance for odd gust and more of a Trade Like Winds.  It was be partly cloudy with some high overcast and a low chance of rain with only trace accumulations for the next few days.

Radar shows a few showers but they seem to be well to our North and only PR is getting rain.  Here is a show of how it looked this AM when I got up for coffee...  WE WILL NOT DISCUSS HOW LATE THAT WAS!!!!!!  Well. you can probably guess just from the position of the sun...... IF you are a sailor......Rolling on the floor laughing

Message in a bottle I found this AM while having Coffee & Toasted English Muffins with Bitter Orange Marmalade in the cockpit:

Wayward,

It's very clear from all that you write that you have a great feel for boats and sailing. Is this why you refer to ships under sail as 'she' and ships under power as 'he'?

Free winds,

Mike

Gee Mike, I actually didn’t realize I did thatSurprised smile.  Thinking about it, I think you did pick up on my feelings about sailboats.  They are much like women.  I once wrote a poem about “My Three Lovers”, one was Mother Ocean, one was my sailboat and one was the best lover I’ve ever know or would want to know.  You get to know a sailboat far better than you would ever get to know a power boat.  In a sailboat you are part of the boat and it is part of you.  May be hard to explain but I guess that is how I feel.  Here is a quote from Jack London I post with many of my cruising related blogs.  It follows about what you picked up on about me.

I prefer a sailboat to a motorboat, and it is my belief that boat sailing is a finer, more difficult, and sturdier art than running a motor.
--- Jack London

Sailing is a finer art..... just as women are a finer art than men.... anyway that is how dis ol sailor tinksSmile
