parliament about Pearl of China project
PHILIPSBURG – Member of Parliament (MP) Leona Marlin-Romeo on
Monday stated that a request has been made to the Chair of Parliament to call
an urgent public meeting regarding the Pearl of China project for Belair.
MP Marlin-Romeo said that there were too many questions out in
the community that needed to be addressed adding that transparency was lacking,
and the Ministers involved in the project needed to come to the House of
Parliament and address MPs and the people.
The two other MPs who co-signed along with MP Marlin-Romeo for
the urgent public meeting are MPs Tamara Leonard and Cornelius de Weevers.

Karl is moving to the west-southwest underneath a large high pressure system that is centered just west of the Azores Islands. This westerly course is forecast to continue over the next couple of days with a turn to the west-northwest forecast by Tuesday. This should guide Karl north of the Caribbean by Wednesday. With that said, I have concerns that Karl could move much closer to the northern Lesser Antilles than what is forecast right now. The reason for this concern is due to the fact that since Karl is fairly weak right now, it could move within the low-level wind flow, which if it holds would guide Karl right across the northern Lesser Antilles and the Virgin Islands on Wednesday and Wednesday night and this is something that will be watched. Right now, I think that Karl will clear the Caribbean by passing by to the north, however, a more southerly track is something that does need to be considered and watched for.

Latest from Crown Weather:
Karl continues to be impacted by westerly wind shear of 15 knots which is pushing the thunderstorm activity to the east of the low-level center. This wind shear is forecast to decrease to 10 knots or less by Sunday. Beyond this, the wind shear is forecast to be favorable around Karl through much of next week. Because of this, I think that we will see little or no strengthening this weekend with slow and gradual strengthening expected next week to a borderline tropical storm-hurricane by late Wednesday and Thursday.
Karl is currently moving to the west-southwest underneath a building area of high pressure that is centered near the Azores Islands. Also on the weather map this morning, we have another ridge of high pressure over the western Atlantic and a break in these two high pressure ridges along the 55-60 West Longitude line. So, I think that we will see Karl continue to push on a general west-southwesterly course throughout this weekend. By Monday and Tuesday, I think we will see Karl turn to the west and then west-northwest and pass far enough to the north of the Caribbean to not be a threat to the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Wednesday. Given the latest data, I am now giving an all clear to those you in the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico in regards to Karl. |

All of the latest model guidance forecasts that Karl should pass to the north of the Caribbean. This forecast track to the north of the Caribbean is being forecast by all of the global models as well as by the track model guidance. In addition, the latest European model guidance forecasts that Karl will become a very intense hurricane by the middle to end of next week and turn north and northeastward along the 65 West Longitude line. If the European model is correct, then there would be a limited threat to the US East Coast, but a potentially serious threat to Bermuda by next weekend. Even though the GFS model is much weaker with potential intensity, it also forecasts a curve to the north and northeast along the 65 West Longitude line by late next week.
Here Are My Thoughts: I think that it is too early to make a definite call that Karl will miss the northern and northeastern Caribbean even though all of the models forecast a track that takes the storm to the north of the Caribbean around the middle part of next week. The reason why I want everyone in the northern Lesser Antilles, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico to keep a close eye on Karl is because the model guidance may be strengthening this storm too much over the next few days as I think strong wind shear will limit the amount of strengthening this storm could do. This means that a weaker system could track further west than the model guidance are indicating. So, for now I’m not calling “an all clear” for the northern Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico and want you to keep an eye on this storm for now.

Invest 94-L Located About 1000 Miles To The East Of The Lesser Antilles: Invest 94-L, is located about 1000 miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles, is disorganized this morning with a lack of concentrated thunderstorm activity near the center of the low pressure system. The reason why Invest 94-L is not organizing and developing is due to strong wind shear located near this system. In fact, there is the very real possibility that Invest 94-L never really develops and is just pulled northward into the open Atlantic by an upper level low pressure system near 27 North Latitude, 52 West Longitude. Whether this system develops or not, it will not be a threat to any land masses.

Models indicate it will turn East before it gets to the islands. let's hope so.Crown Weather says: Invest 94-L Located About 1000 Miles To The East Of The Lesser Antilles: A large tropical disturbance, Invest 94-L, is located about 1000 miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles this morning. This disturbance is still expected to become a tropical depression and then a tropical storm by about Monday or Tuesday as environmental conditions will become more favorable for it to develop. An upper level low pressure system currently located near 28 North Latitude, 50 West Longitude will pull Invest 94-L to turn to the northwest and north-northwest next week around the 50-55 West Longitude line. Should this hold, then this system should remain far enough east to not impact the Lesser Antilles and remain out in the open Atlantic with no threat to anyone. At this point, all of the model guidance agrees with this idea.

Yes, its "tropical wave season" so I know all eyes in the Caribbean look East this time of year. This is the latest tropical weather discussion from the NHC. All I can say, is even though the Saharan dust is making my eyes water and my throat scratchy, I am glad it is doing its job at limiting convection TROPICAL WAVES...
Tropical wave off the coast of Africa extends along 19W from 6N-
17N moving west near 15 to 20 kt over the past 12 hours. Wave is
embedded within a surge of moisture as seen on the Total
Precipitable Water Imagery, however the wave is also embedded
within a surge of Saharan dust and dry air at the lower levels.
This is limiting convection to the south portion of the wave.
Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is from 8N-11N
between 17W-22W.
Tropical wave in the central Atlantic extends along 39W/40W from
7N-20N moving west near 10 kt over the past 24 hours. Wave is
embedded within a narrow surge of moisture as seen on the Total
Precipitable Water Imagery. Wave is also along the leading edge
of a surge of Saharan dust and dry air at the lower levels. This
is limiting any showers or deep convection.

We are getting periodic heavy downpours on the island. Latest observations from the airport: Heavy rain, SW wind 20 MPH, gusting to 33. Met Office has issued a flash flood advisory.
I know many of our roads are flooded as we have such poor drainage. It's a good day to stay inside and cook some curried goat! Be safe out there!

Good morning St Maarten has had some moderate rain and wind over night. Right now we are experiencing another squall but I believe most of the tropical wave is passing South of us. Met Office says we can expect it to be cloudy and breezy with passing showers all day. Hoping for no serious bad weather for all our Caribbean neighbors.

Not much action from Invest 99L in St. Maarten Currently the sun trying to shine. We had very little rain over night. Schools were cancelled as a precaution, but it seems most of 99L is south of us. wishing good luck to those in the islands south of us.

Good morning We are here watching 99L carefully and hoping it causes none of us any serious problems. I cannot help but remember when NHC under forecast Gonzalo in 2014. That storm caused a lot of us some serious problems. We got more rain and higher wind gusts than we thought we would get. Be prepared is the motto for this time of year! Be safe, everyone!
