Good Morning, RAIN! It's been on and off and now we are getting the heaviest downpour. I am sure most of us in the Caribbean are getting something from this system. (Of course, only PR is mentioned by the Weather Channel.) This should continue for a good part of the day with a 70% chance of rain. It could easily have been a storm had it not been for the dust in the middle of the Atlantic. Blessings! Isabel

Good night, all! I was just checking stormpulse/symcyclone and it seems that we are not quite out of the woods with ERIN. After some meandering she has turned W S W downwards in our direction. At 4:00 p.m. the coordinates were at 20.4 N 39.8 W. moving at 8 mph.as for 94L its moving W at 21 mph. One is coming from above and the other from across. In the meanwhile, we got more than two inches of rain from the thunderstorms overnight from Saturday to Sunday. We have to get some sand bags before the next deluge.The TW that's passing tonight thru Monday is weaker but still has "numerous showers" with it. Let's keep our eyes and attention focused on those two systems.God bless us all. |

Greetings! The photo shows the beginning of what was to last all night long with thunderstorms and heavy rain, and still is ongoing with a lighter, sometimes heavier rain. Good night, All! We've been having showers on and off today. We're happy that ERIN seems, so far, to be no threat to anyone. The folks in Khartoum, Sudan were not so fortunate. They have been having a series of waves since Aug.2, according to Dr. Masters which have set off some devastating flooding, especially the one that became ERIN; 53 people died there as a result. There is a very "healthy" tropical wave that stepped off the coast, but no storms are expected for the next seven days, perhaps because there is so much dry dust in the middle of the Atlantic.Let's hope that this quiet trend continues. Good Afternoon! ERIN developed quickly. What could that possibly mean? Time will tell. The track is somewhat of concern. Considering that it's still so very far away one hopes for a disruption of sorts. Watch and pray! Here we go, folks. It looks as if it's time to "wake up and smell the coffee" as the saying goes, the lull is over. This TD could very well become a "fish storm" according to some computer models, it could also get disrupted by dry air and cooler waters, but if it turns on a more westerly route then we're in trouble. The word is out. That suspicious flare up off the coast of Africa is being investigated for possible development. There's still a lot of dust out there, perhaps it will take care of this one also. The TW that passed us to the south now has a 40% chance of developing and the name Erin has already been mentioned on the Weather Channel. The one to be watched is that new Invest. Good Afternoon! The weather here is undecided. It does not know what to do. The wind managed to "shoo" away all the rain last night that was in the forecast. We had a very peaceful night. We've had sunny skies today and the usual heat and humidity. The sky has clouded over in the last hour and all we can do is hope we get some rain for the house (cisterns) and garden. The tone of emails can be misconstrued, but there really are some people who are more interested in Meteorology and do more research than others perhaps; they know that we truly are in the hurricane season and are hoping everyone else realize that too, and prepare for the worse while hoping for the best - no hurricanes, here or for any land. Good night, All! This evening We had a hugh thunder clap and some other rumbles, very little rain. The bulk of the storminess is suppose to happen overnight and into the next day. I noticed on the animation of the Satellite Imagery that there is still a lot of wind shear. I'm keeping both eyes on the tropical waves that are crossing the Atlantic. If you are living in the Caribbean, you should too. Dr. Jeff Masters wrote about the most powerful storm on earth so far this year--Cat 4 Super Typhoon UTOR which made landfall in Luzon in the Philippines.It had sustained winds of 150 mph with a capability of reaching 185 mph.!! That would be stronger than HUGO. We certainly don't want such a monster around here, unfortunately, the storms are predicted to be larger and stronger. Let's prepare well. May God bless us all. Good Sunday Morning, All! There's lots of rain in the forecast for later today, possibly through Tuesday. Plan accordingly. Canceling outdoor plans ahead of time is never a good thing since the weather has a "mind of its own", it always depends on various factors. There are several waves crossing over from Africa; as Dave wrote those, and for the next 6 weeks, all the others have to be watched. Hello, Caribbean Folk and Beyond! We got some torrential downpours today. We expect a TW tomorrow, perhaps this was part of it? Whatever the case, we needed it. However, I've been reading the experts' reports for the upcoming very active season and it is reason for concern, especially watching the Hurricane Hunters this past week with memories of the devastating hurricanes so fresh, with destruction still so obvious. Even here, we have empty shells abandoned by owners after HUGO'S powerful, relentless assault in 1989. Let's hope and pray that we do not have a repeat performance. May God bless us all. Isabel

Hello Caribbean and Beyond! The quiet spell continues apparently until the middle of the month. As for the dust storm, even though we were embedded in red we were none the worse for wear. The stars were quite visible. The next tropical wave should be in the region on Wednesday. Everything is starting to dry out here, so we hope for a good, soaking rain so that the Flora smiles again and we don't have to buy water for a long time. Let's not be fooled by the quiet. Good Morning, All! According to Dr. Jeff Masters' blog, a "massive dust storm" from the Sahara Desert, is now crossing the Atlantic. We can be sure that for the next seven days there shall be no development of systems. Whew! That's good news, especially with so many waves heading out to the Atlantic. As for the "massive", hopefully by the time that gets here all we will have is the usual dust film on the cars and hazy skies. So far so good. It seems to me that the Pacific is more active than the Atlantic, quite the contrary to what the experts predicted. The Pacific is already at "G" and the Hawaiian Island chain could be sorely challenged this season as it has been already. Our weather as seen from this photo taken a few minutes ago, is perfect. While watching the sunset and listening to the news there was a comment made on some conditions that will effect hurricane season... There is Sarah Dust stretching from Africa to Puerto Rico that will (for now) hinder the development of any storms due to the dry air mass that it is associated with. That right there is some great news for those of us that obsess over every little radar blip that rolls off of the cost of Africa this time of year! So for now I will continue to enjoy the amazing sunset Mother Nature has given us and sleep well knowing we have a few extra, worry free days when it comes to developing storms.

Good Morning! Have we done our homework ? Dave's update : "Lining Up"? Especially the last detailed paragraph....? I was so happy when I checked the Atlantic Weather Outlook and not a single thing out there of concern. How long is this suspenseful quiet going to last? Are all the name storms waiting for our Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration..? Yikes !! Kids, grandkids, and friends from the mainland, besides locals are coming. The peak of the hurricane season! The kids planned it; you can tell that the "Weather Lady" had nothing to do with this plan! Ha! I'll just take it a day at a time and do the best we can with what we have, so there! God bless us all! Good Evening, Stormcarib correspondents, all the Caribbean and beyond! OUR hurricane season is about to begin. Dave outlined the various reasons why NOW is the time to get ready if we have not done so as yet. We are near completion of various projects which we pray will hold in case of a strong storm. I look at the news and see how the weather has been devastating one place after another. Some have had a month's rainfall in a 24 hr period. Major flooding everywhere; often places have not seen the likes of if, or it has been a long time. Let us not be deceived by the lull we're having. As Dave said this time is usually quiet. Read "Lining up". There is currently a blob off the coast of Africa which will probably soon become an Invest unless it dissipates. Let's hope and pray we won't have to deal with any catastrophic system. May God bless us all. Good Morning, There's a trough that's being dragged along by ex_DORIAN. It's passing us with rumbles of thunder and drops of rain are falling like little diamonds on the plants. It's quite cloudy, so this could be of longer duration. We are still in that quiet phase, but not for long says Dave. Please read his update "Lining up" and find out why. Have a wonderful day! Hello, Hello! We can open the present, it has arrived! If NOAA Weather Radio is accurate we should be having a change in the weather soon. That's the tropics for you! All we can do is enjoy the moment and be ready for the change. There are no threats at the moment, but those are preparing for their cue. We have only had four storms and that's unheard of that there should be no more. I am grateful and cautious. What we do have are a daily quota of earthquake alerts. That's one reason why some people are concerned that perhaps we should prepare for a tsunami rather than a hurricane. Time will tell; as for now let's enjoy what we have, beautiful, tranquil, weather. May God bless us all. Isabel

Good Morning, All! Have you noticed the blob which was once DORIAN? It is now a tropical wave. It is being investigated for possible formation. If it does, the track takes it across to Florida and other places along the coast. We are having rain as I write. This is one of the showers we've had so far this morning. Where is it coming from? Good question! The tropical wave, if we get anything at all, will affect us tomorrow. A second invest 90L is closer to the coast. That one will move up to destinations unknown. So far, we have no other invest coming from Africa. Those are the ones we have to worry about. However, August should be the time for lots of action. If the hurricane season plays out the way the experts in Colorado and others have predicted, the action should start soon. A hurricane free season would be great. So far the only hurricane we're having is "hurricane Francis" - a very dynamic Pope Francis who had a following of 3 million plus at a vigil celebration of World Youth Day in Rio, Brazil at the Copacabana Beach Front last night. Today an even larger crowd is expected for the final event. Being Winter there the weather has been cool and rainy quite often, but that has not dampened the enthusiasm of young and older alike. Good Afternoon, Caribbean! We were told to keep our eyes on TS DORIAN. It should pass us on Monday morning over 100 miles away, but that can change at any moment. As long as it is in the vicinity we cannot become complacent about the current track. It is wiser to stay alert. Even the NHC acknowledges that there are discrepancies in the forecasting of these systems; they can be off one way or the other. We may not even get rain out of this systems, but that we'll find out next week. The weather is what it should be at the moment at this time of year, quite sunny, warm and hazy. There are always scattered showers in the forecast which often do not materialize where we are, but could happen somewhere else on the island. So, let's be alert! May God bless us all. Isabel |

Good Afternoon/Evening! It's been very hot. Would be nice to get some refreshing showers. I notice that DORIAN has a long sweeping tail. Is that perhaps going to give us some rain? We are still within the "cone of uncertainty" and some computer models still have the storm moving towards us. I'm glad to read in Dave's blog that we do have to be aware of a possible wobble. Good Day All, Well it is that time of year where we need to pay close attention to the tropics and any disturbances that may be bouncing around and heading our direction... The following statement was released from VITEMA just a little while ago: "Dorian is forecasted to have little to no impact on the Virgin Islands. On the current forecast track, Dorian is expected to makes it closest approach to the Territory on Monday when it will pass more than 180 miles north of the Territory. At 5 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near 15.6 degrees north, 34.5 degrees west moving toward the west-northwest near 17 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds are now near 60 miles per hour with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm force
winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center. There are no watches or warnings in effect for Tropical Storm Dorian." That's good news for us... let her keep heading north and right past us! I had to share

Hello and good night! I guess we can breathe a sigh of relief? I think I'll wait until it passes us. They have been known to wobble. You never know. I just hope that DORIAN will not cause havoc anywhere. I was checking my log book for last year's hurricane season, and it was quite busy. So, we're getting into that time now. It makes a difference where it comes off the coast. DORIAN was at 12degrees and it started to climb passing us, but had it started out lower it would be at our front doors this weekend. Good Morning, All, on this beautiful new day! On July 11th it was announced that there will be no tropical development in the Atlantic during the rest of the month. That's what we call "going out on a limb". Well, the limb broke ! The disturbance, 98L, which came off the coast of Africa on Monday is now a Tropical Depression. This one may or may not harm anyone, but the fact is that it developed, and conditions will become more favorable for the next systems that are lining up to step off the coast. Hello Again! How nerve wrecking to see all the computer models of 98 L pointing this way. Luckily it is over 2000 miles away and lots can change by then. It has to pass a few tests. The NHC gives it a 60% chance of developing, but then it can diminish again. I remember how CHANTAL beat all the odds on its trek here. Let's hope this one does the same. The D storm would be lots bigger. We have to keep monitoring and prepare for the worse while hoping for the best. May God bless us all. Isabel |

Hello! With this kind of weather we have countless things we can do outside. Other than the usual surprise shower, we should have fair weather until Saturday evening when rain and gusty winds shall invade the region with the first signs of the disturbance off the coast of Africa. This system now has a 40% chance to develop, but apparently on Wednesday it will enter a less favorable environment and before it reaches us there will be very strong wind shear. So, it does appear, as of now, that this system will arrive as a TW. Let's keep monitoring 98L and may God bless us all. Isabel

Good afternoon, all! Everyone should keep track of this monstrous TW, monsoon trof, with a 30% potential for developing into a cyclone. Only two computer models gave it much credence. They expect it to break up or remain aTW. As for now the NWS in San Juan expect it here as a TW this coming weekend. It certainly must be monitored by everyone on the island chain and in the Caribbean. The current TW dumped a huge amount of rain this morning as we were getting ready for a funeral at Holy Cross, our parish. The heavy rain swept in through all the open, tall windows and doors. It took "forever" to mop up and dry off the pews. At the moment it's very overcast. So now, all eyes on 98L!! May God bless us all. Isabel |

Good Morning, The weather this weekend was perfect for sailing, sunning and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family! Today however, well I guess its the perfect day to be at work.... or cuddled up in bed with a good book or movie. Today the forcast calls for a 70% of precipitation and so far Mother Nature has not
disappointed with thunder storms starting in the early morning and so far this morning they seem to be continuing. JUST IN: St. Croix is under a Thunderstorm alert until 4:15... Strong showers and thunderstorms with frequent lightning can be expected. Also there is a Tropical Wave that we have been watching that has come off Africa. It is approx. 500 miles ESE OF Cape Verdes. Conditions, for next few days, are marginal for development, as he moves W 12 mph. NHC gives 10% chance of TC

Hello! On this interesting Monday morning we have the signs of a TW in the area. The breeze is stiffer as the minutes pass. As usual we can use some rain of which there is a 70% chance later today. Rather later, so that our worker can finish the project we started in May. There is concern coming from St. Bart's and most likely others on the island chain about the GFS prediction for the islands, us included, for the coming weekend. All we can do is prepare, watch, pray, and hope that the system exiting the coast of Africa today will not reach us as a cyclone. Let's have a great day. God bless us. Isabel

A beautiful day is in store for us judging from the brilliant sunrise rounding the corner of our house. There are, however, scattered showers in the forecast. Tomorrow, Monday, should be a wet day if the Tropical Wave passes through. The Weather Channel brought our attention to a suspicious Wave exiting the African coast. The GFS computer model has it developing and be in the Lesser Antilles by next Sunday; a Canadian model agrees with this, but all the other reliable CMs do not agree. Good High Noon! I'm sitting in the shade of an "ancient" Divi-Divi tree with view in the photo before me. The weather birds have assembled which usually means there are fishermen cleaning their catch, inclement weather is coming, or perhaps just a friendly gathering? Other than that, I see haze and more haze. A huge Manjack tree near by has two branches rubbing against each other as the breeze blows; it sounds like a language. It is full of "fruit" , that is, those clusters of transparent looking grapes that can be used as glue. My other half continues working while I sit in this nice, breezy spot. I heard there's a TW passing through on Monday. We shall see! Have a great weekend. May God bless us all. Isabel

Good Evening Caribbean Folk and Beyond! We are having hazy conditions due to the Saharan dust moving in for the weekend. It's been breezy and quite pleasant. We do not expect rain these days except perhaps a little surprise shower. The next TW is rather large, but that one most likely will stay below us; have't heard much about it. Whatever the case, it's a great time to visit. Mangoes are in, the Flamboyant trees are ablaze with brilliant colors, and the sea is excellent therapy. The sun usually takes on another look with dust in the air. I took this photo around 6:00 p.m. The sun has a lilac glow, which makes it extra special, especially since it's the color of my birthstone. I wish you all a wonderful weekend, one hour at a time. Good Day, The sky is a bit ominous today with thunder storms rolling through over the next few hours... There has been a advisory put out for Puerto Rico, Culebra and the U.S.V.I. (that includes St. Croix)...Strong showers and thunderstorm activity with a chance for frequent lightning. There is a chance for heavy rain fall and gusty winds... These showers and thunderstorms will continue to move west northwest until at least 4 PM AST. Please make sure to take the necessary precautions if thunderstorms roll through your area. Hello! There's a Tropical Wave passing through as I write. This is supposed to last only for a short time with the weather improving by this evening. There's a flash flood watch in effect until 6:00 P.M today. In the photo one can see the unused post, which I mentioned in a previous update. It serves as a lightning rod for us. Good Day, Waking up this morning and looking out of my window our usual beautiful blue sky has been replaced by steel grey clouds that hold the promise of rain! The forecast calls for rain today and tomorrow so hopefully by Friday we will have happy cisterns and emerald green hills! It's been hot and sticky, but for sure not as hot as on the mainland where temps have been flirting with 100 degrees. We always have a nice breeze. As I said before, this is the time to prepare. Good Day, It is certainly is a warm day today on the beautiful island of St. Croix and I can't think of a better place to hide from the sun than under the shade of this majestic Mahogany Tree. Today's forecast calls for a 40% chance of thunder storms, but so far the only thunderous noises in my area are coming from the road work outside my office! We will see what the afternoon and evening hours bring... Regarding tropical cyclone activity everything is quiet which is just the way we like it! Good Day, Today on St. Croix was picture perfect from the start! The sky was "crucian blue", a color that is unique to
our island, there was a light breeze that kissed your cheeks and the ocean (in front of my house anyway) was calm and clear... it was a beautiful, lazy summer day on the island. Hi, My name is Christine and I have been a resident of St. Croix for 30+ years. I love
my island and sharing its unique beauty and I look forward to sharing that beauty with you through my eyes. As I am sure you know it is hurricane season so all eyes are on the Tropical Atlantic Forecast pretty much daily (some times hourly if there is a storm lurking). Today I am happy to say that today there is no tropical cyclone activity that we are currently tracking. Good beautiful morning, all! It's such a blessing to look out and see such a calm, absolutely charming sight; the beginning of a new day, with the rising sun casting it's rays far and wide. There is rain in the forecast for today coming from a trough in the area. Will it keep us from dining on the deck with our guest? Hope not. Looking farther out, there are two tropical waves on the way in Atlantic, a monsoon trop stepping off the coast of Africa, and a Low Pressure system behind that! We are counting on those strong upper level winds to stay in place and wipe them out. In the meanwhile, let us cease the moment with God's richest blessings upon us all, and enjoy the day. Isabel

Good Night, All! I'm trying to beat the clock tonight. I could not resist getting this in. Ready for the latest, greatest, weather news? NO STORMS FOR THE REST OF JULY!(???) Really? That's what they said on the Weather Channel tonight. Strong winds aloft are going to install themselves over the Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic making it virtually impossible for the development of storms. Does not that sound absolutely wonderful? BUT, wait a minute! When are the other 15+ storms coming? Most likely a concentration of them! Read the post from St. Martin (July 10th) again and don't let your guard down. Let's remember that it does not only take a storm/hurricane to inflict pain, suffering, material loss..RAIN can do it. Think of the blessings we have while the people of the Sichuan Province in China have 31 dead and some 166 missing amid continuing floods (just in from CNN). So, now we can relax. Have a good night. May God bless us all and the people in Hispaniola who are suffering as a result of the "remnants" of CHANTAL. Isabel |

Good Night, Folks! At 1:00 p.m. today I received an alert of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for Christiansted until 5:30 p.m. Sometime later we got a brief shower; no hint of a thunderstorm. False alarm, or probably just a miscalculation. It made we wonder how those conclusions are reached, what made it seem as if we were in for severe weather? It's like "cry wolf",--after a while people don't pay attention to those alerts and simply look out to see if an umbrella will be needed. Nevertheless, I admire the people who work hard at keeping us safe. Has everyone recovered from the CHANTAL fright? Well, let's just be ready. I suggest, if you haven't read it as yet, to please read the News Release (July 10th) from the Department of Communication in St. Martin. THAT applies to all of us. Let's not think that all the others are going to be like CHANTAL. At least one, if not more, will be like the detestables of the past. I don't have to name them. How can we forget them. Even if they never appear on the list ever again, we shall never forget them. DORIAN will be the next name storm, now we know that the classic Dorian bears bad news. Good Morning! CHANTAL'S clouds early this morning are most impressive, but we did not have the 100% of rain, any rain, at least not in Christiansted. I will be in touch with someone in Fredriksted over 30 miles away, at the West End of the island, to find out if they got the brunt of the storm. We are still under a Watch/Warning. Hello, Again! CHANTAL is quiet, but we do have a lot of real tweeters and chirpers and all kinds of sounds out there. No storminess, yet the information keeps coming about the "ton" of rain, etc.. Well, could be, we shall see what the morrow brings. After FLOYD passed us that time it was the same, then the rain came when we did not expect it anymore, then it rained for a week! I doubt this will be the same. We have another feature in the Atlantic that looks rather large. We could be hearing about that one before long. CHANTAL is quiet, but it could be that she "opened a can of worms". I'll let the experts deal with that and take myself off to bed. I need a good night's rest. Hello, Everyone in the path of this tropical storm! Be safe not sorry. Stay indoors until it passes. This afternoon several of us attended the Tuesday Prayer Meeting at 5:00 p.m. It was sunny, breezy, some clouds. Suddenly, the wind increased and it rained a heavy rain for a space of a few minutes. It was so intense that it really shook us. We shortened the meeting and headed for home expecting the real thing to arrive much later tonight. At home everything was secured outside, including the turtles' habitat with extra palm branches to protect them from the wind. We noticed that these turtles don't like wind. According to NOAA we should be getting 60 mph wind and heavy rain tonight and through tomorrow, decreasing to 55 mph. That's to be seen! Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel says that CHANTAL is looking ragged, in need of life support. So, will it be rough? or mild? Suspense heightens! I will check back later! God bless us all. Good Morning! We still have good sitting outside weather as you can see from the photo. There is a pleasant breeze and some clouds. The sea is choppy and we are being warned to be prepared for the possibility of heavy rain/flash floods when CHANTAL passes to our South. So far, each time I've checked the storm has moved up closer. This morning the closest approach to us would be 119.5 miles tonight. It would not surprise me if it passes closer than that. Remembering Hortense, which passed 100 miles to our South, we did get heavy rain and flooding. This could be the same scenario setting up for tonight and tomorrow. Only time will tell. Hello, Again! Well, She does look healthy; because of that she has been able to fight her way through the usual terminators of tropical waves. She means to get to where she's going. The high mountains in Hispaniola will determine whether she in invincible or not. Mountains and storms don't do well. In the meanwhile she will be passing us at 1:00 a.m. by 127.2 miles. She has moved up some 17 miles and could very well do so again. I noticed a little jog upwards before it reaches the islands. The forecast is for CHANTAL to intensify to 70mph before it reaches The Dominican Republic. I pray that everyone will take all the precautions and stay safe. Blessings! Isabel |

Good Night, All! It almost seems as if 95L will be declared a Depression or perhaps even a T Storm tonight or tomorrow morning. It is already at 70% potential, wind at 40 mph. It's still low, speeding WNW at 26 mph! Even so, it will dump heavy rain wherever it passes. Water is more dangerous than wind. Be safe! Don't venture out for anything. One ft of rushing water can knock you off your feet. Our weather has been quite calm, except for some light rain this afternoon, it's been dry with a nice, refreshing breeze from the East. Good Afternoon! It's time to take a second and third look at 95L. Please read NOAA's and Dr. Jeff Masters updates. This system is protecting itself against the odds around it and now it's clear that it is rapidly becoming a storm sooner than was expected. It should be in our vicinity by Tuesday unless it slows down. We are going to have to start putting away light weight garden furniture, anything that can blow away. The nearer it passes the stronger the wind. The Lesser Antilles seems to be the target with the Dominican Republic getting it's first sighting on Wednesday. Good Morning, All! This gift of a glorious sunrise is quite a surprise! According to the forecast it was going to be a stormy one. That means that the strong winds are still ripping apart the T Waves. We are watching 95 L with great interest as it could very well be here as a weak tropical storm by mid weak, according to Dave (read his update). He was our favorite weatherman on TV2, still is, and always look forward to what he has to say about our weather. Hello Again! As of 7:00 p.m. the NHC has given 95L a 30% chance of developing. If it is able to cough it's way pass the SAL (Saharan Air Layer) then it should stand a good chance! The projected path I've seen so far has it tracking mostly in our neck of the woods. According to the Weather Channel lady, the "little number spinning in the Eastern Atlantic" will most probably stay to the South. We have lots of lush green vegetation as a result of all the rain brought by T Waves. Let's keep an eye on this system. May God Bless us all! Isabel |

Hello! It was as warm and as dry today as yesterday. The rest of the weekend should be stormy beginning on Saturday night through Tuesday with the passage of a Tropical Wave. A slow mover, or a large one. According to NOAA Weather Radio there a system off the coast of Africa with a low potential of 10% for development. They don't seem too concerned at the moment. Perhaps there are factors present which will destroy it before it forms into a cyclone. The sea was very warm late this afternoon when I took this photo. Hello, Everyone! I hope you had a great time here on our island. We certainly had very good weather. Some threatening clouds passed over and kept moving. The same cannot be said for parts of the mainland where flash floods flourished with the abundance of rain from a Low Pressure system, and along the Southeast coast moisture from a Tropical Wave in the Gulf was affecting that area; that's something to watch. We have to keep an eye on Africa and the potential weather woes that are coming off the coast. One feature already had a Low of 1002mb. I think the H Season shall be heating up soon. Be prepared. Good Evening! Judging from the photo with the "Heavenly" rays, it had to be an awesome day. It was perfect in every way. The gazebo builder had nice weather to work. The trick will come when several dry days will be required to coat the roof. I guess he will soon have to go to plan B. On the 4th of July we shall all try to chill out a bit and enjoy the freedom. With a 70% chance of rain courtesy of the T Wave that arrives tonight we may not be able to have that outdoor barbecue, but that can be remedied with an indoor "happy" broiled meal. Good Morning! We shall cease the moment. It is as beautiful as a postcard, more so, perhaps. However, according to the forecast, we can expect a continuation of the showers we've been having these past days. The good thing about these showers is that they are sandwiched between slices of glorious sunshine. I hope that the celebration of Emancipation Day can be held without much interruption by inclement weather. Tomorrow will be a different story for the Fourth of July; a 70% chance of rain is expected with the passage of the Tropical Wave. Good Afternoon, Since this morning we've been having beautifully strange weather. One moment of glorious sunshine, the next, we had huge, dark threatening clouds. It rained and poured for a minute, if that. People caught outside suddenly had to run and seek shelter. Two older ladies having the chat of their lives, ambled leisurely in the parking lot, when I noticed yet another surprise raincloud like the one in the photo. The rain pounded upon the roof of the store a short while later. So it has been all day and another "weak wave" arrives Wednesday night into Thursday. I like this kind of weather; it's full of surprises; not the least bit boring. I bless God. He blesses us each day and He "wipes the tears of those who weep".--like the young widow of a 28 yr old fireman who died in the blaze in Arizona. Be well, be happy, don't take life here for granted. Good Night, All! As Dave wrote,--it is Quiet for Now-- even our town is quiet, we have visitors from Cruise Ships and Air, but many of the locals are away, so traffic is lighter, life is not as hectic. It gets very hot in the early hours of the afternoon, so it definitely is a great time to have siesta if you're not at your job, that is, those of us who have earned it by our age, should take advantage of it. It's good for the mind, body, and soul. A bit of reading, napping,..it's great. Now, during this quiet spell, is the time to consider how we would prepare in the event that a major storm is heading our way, create the worse scenario, and plan how we would protect ourselves, family, property, and what we would need. Start getting those items together in a special place reserved for emergencies. After Hurricane HUGO in 1989, there was no electricity for months. That has not happened since then, but it can happen again. Preparedness is the keyword. So, let's get a head start, while we can. May God bless the families of the Firefighters who mourn their loss, most of them were in their 20s, and may God bless each and everyone of us. Isabel |

Good Monday Morning, It is not "good" for many in view of the terrible loss of 19 brave firefighters in Arizona. This morning we had a "shower of tears" as we can imagine the pain being felt by their loved ones, friends, and the Fire Dept. Years ago, before the Bypass, some such firefighters protected our house from a brush fire that was dangerously close. A good, drenching rain, like our tropical wave rains trailing behind it, is the best aid, but is often not there when needed. They have to use various methods to keep the fire from spreading, including putting their lives on the line as these 19 men did; may they rest in peace. It is only right that we should join our prayers to those being raised in Arizona right now. Life is fragile. May God bless us all. Isabel

Hello Again for today! It has been a truly interesting and wonderful day. Yes, on and off it was stormy-ish, but nothing to fret about. We did not get the type of rain the other correspondents are writing about. By the time the wave gets to us it has already been through the mill with the wind aloft. There is another wave trying to battle the dust out there in the middle of the Atlantic. Let's see if the dust will win again. One thing to keep in mind. This is still very early in the season for us. Our real season does not start until later. I am reading some tones of doubt about the season. It is better to think that it will be rough and prepare for it, than to fall into a lethargic attitude and get caught unprepared for the big ones when they start showing up. I think we can expect the storms (hurricanes) to be larger, more powerful, as the SST (Sea Surface Temperature) is warmer. The fuel is ready. If you take a good look at Africa you can see how many waves are getting in line for the trek across the Atlantic. Consider those getting through to us. I suggest that we prepare, take one day at a time and enjoy it, and remember that it is the Hurricane Season. God bless us all. Isabel |

Good Sunday Morning, On this day, which held a stormy forecast, we rose to one that held the rainbow promise of a far better day. Yes, we had some rain and maybe will have some more. So, what happened to that mighty disturbance? It fizzled in the face of strong winds aloft. Those winds and the Saharan dust protect us from developing storms. If only that could hold throughout the season, but we know the pattern. Eventually, those winds will no longer be in place, and the dust will lift. Last night before I retired, I checked the progress of the disturbance and read that the cloudiness and showers had diminished. It had encountered wind shear. Let us enjoy the gift of this new day, and each day, rain or shine. May God bless us all. Isabel

Good Early Evening! I'm keeping an eye to the weather. Clearly the cloudiness is beginning to reach our area. The breeze has picked up and therefore the sea is becoming choppy. I think I'll skip the swim this evening. Maybe I'll run up and down our terraced garden ( once upon a time an ordinary slope ); that would be quite a feat for a lady my age! On the other hand, pureeing the Cabbage Soup (a fat burner) while listening to NOAA Weather Radio, if the blender let's me, is a far more productive idea. Besides, I have Puma, Tammy, Morris, Luna, Bunny, Speedy, Weepee, Peewee, and Fluffy to attend. Those are all pets and I'm not counting the lizards and the many birds that constantly entertain us! The turtles enjoy a good mud bath after a heavy rain, my fear is, what happens when the mud dries! They will get stuck if they are not plucked out, yet how they manage to survive in the wild! The "potential disturbance" which is not expected to develop, is as of 1:00 p.m. at 14.3 N 59.9 W . Obviously, the fact that it is called a disturbance must mean something. Perhaps once it passes us it will become a real threat..? Be safe out there, wherever you are, and be happy. Bloom where you're planted. Life is short! May God bless us all! Isabel

Hello Again for the day! There's a disturbance soon to be in our neighborhood. At 7:00 p.m. it's position, that is, it's center was located at 11.5N 58.1W . Movement is West Northwestward at 20mph. It's not expected to develop, nevertheless, gusty wind and heavy rain is accompanying this system. Though this Tropical Wave/Disturbance was in the forecast for Sunday into Monday, we can expect a higher percentage/chance of rain already on Saturday evening.. The disturbance is huge, stretching from Venezuela to our level. Perhaps the strong winds aloft will rip it apart, but as we have seen from the last ones, enough of it gets through. We don't mind having rain, especially those of us who need it for cisterns, but too much of it causes varied problems, especially flash floods. Let's keep an eye on it. Blessings! Isabel |

Good Night, Y'all! I could not resist sharing the beauty that we enjoy in between T Waves. I took this photo at Cheney Bay where the Friends of Denmark celebrated with all of Europe the beginning of Summer, by lighting a bonfire to throw in all the bad habits, etc., before the dinner this spectacular view unfolded itself. Greetings on this soggy-sunny-soggy day! Typical T Wave with heavy, dark clouds, the rain, and then not; the eerie stillness, then the brief rush of wind with pelting rain. That's what lashed the kitchen window at the sink, where my view, usually, is a beautiful, white Bougainvillea tree a short distance away, and the Yellow Breast birds at the feeder or the bath, AND the clothesline reminding me that there will be entire smiling, sunny days again for laundry fun. Ha! My view at the start of the day was RAIN. Dave is watching the next T Wave with suspicion. We ought to keep an eye on it as well. May God bless us and help us to enjoy one day at a time. Isabel

Good Night, All! NOAA Weather Radio has been repeating frequently that tonight into tomorrow we can expect a lot of rain, that is, if the wind does not rip apart the T Wave. We've had some short bursts of heavy showers throughout the day. If these should be of longer duration it could spell big trouble in flood zones and landslides. Dr. Jeff Masters has some amazing photos and videos on what too much rain can do. In Calgary the whole city was flooded. In Austria a cleverly engineered wall kept the city of Grein from flooding as well. India's monsoon rains seem worse than ever with many fatalities. This is the last glimpse of the Super Moon (second photo). The clouds could never overtake it and the fizzled TW had barely a drizzle. Now, I noticed that the next TW is quite large. Could this be "trouble, trouble, trouble..." as the song says..? The Saharan dust has also lifted somewhat. Perhaps that's what The Weather Channel meant by --changes can come for the beginning of July--. Our gazebo constructor is hoping to get it done before anything comes. He does not expect it to be blown away though; it's quite strong. TW or not, we went to
our favorite beach for a swim. The sea was kind of wavy, but not affected adversely by the remnants of the TW. It was most delightful. Hello again! Greetings from St. Croix on a beautiful, clear night! It may not be clear for long, but what a treat to see this sight. We often have "daylight" full moons on clear nights, so I expect that as the super moon rises higher in the sky, the "daylight" will be brighter. Oops! I guess not. No clouds when I took the photo at 10:00 p.m, but in the meanwhile it's cloudy and after midnight there's a 60% chance of rain with the first TW. That's the tropics for you! Blessings! Good Evening, First of all, thank you for reading these updates and your appreciation of the photos and your most welcome offers. I respond to each one as soon as I can. Here is a fascinating cactus which attracts everyone's attention. We call it a Brain. It looks like a brain and defies all kinds of weather. If anyone knows the name of this cactus I would like to share it with those who ask. According to NOAA we are going to have two Tropical Waves this week. This is sometimes contradicted by other weather sources, so it's a matter of "wait and see". Most of the time NOAA is accurate, if not, it's because the weather has a mind of it's own. | - Hurricane & Tsunami Season? |

Good Saturday afternoon ! This morning I stopped at Sunday Market Square ( so named during donkey cart years ) to take a photo of one of the new signs recently installed around Christiansted Town. I mentioned them in my post yesterday. Because of the timing of this action some people are no longer in a Hurricane Season state of mind, which means no preparation. I think the Government should clarify that these signs were on the board for a while, like the By-Pass which took over twenty years from planning to completion. While a Tsunami can occur, it is more difficult to tell when than a hurricane which one can track from its beginning. They often start as a Tropical Wave, then a Depression, then a Name Storm, then a Hurricane, but sometimes they can develop faster. Last year the new Tsunami sirens were tested in the town in the areas which would be affected by a Tsunami, however, in an air-conditioned building the sound cannot be heard as it should. My daughter, who is a teacher right in the town did not hear the test, which came from the Fort a short distance away. Perhaps other measures of alert will also be taken. As for right now, I heard on the Weather Radio that another TW shall be here by Monday. Have a great weekend and may God bless us all. Isabel

I wish you a good, peaceful night. All is quiet. I see far, though, and I think there's going to be a change in the weather, hopefully not before the kids fly off on their vacation next wee. Today I was speaking with a friend who connects with many locals. It seems that there is more concern over a Tsunami than over a hurricane. They don't believe it's going to be active this year, but the Tsunami could be more of a reality. I think their concern is due to the signs that have been installed around the town. These signs indicate evacuation zones and routes. While they are somewhat worrisome, they are necessary and should have been up a long time ago. The important thing is to be ready for anything and "take the bull by the horns" when it comes. Isabel |

A Hearty Good Evening! We are entering a tranquil pattern which should last through the weekend. That's great! We're planning a beach picnic for Saturday morning. This photo was taken at twilight. The line of clouds in the distance is trailing the Tropical Wave that bombarded us with pitchforks yesterday. The NHC does not expect it to develop as the wind aloft is too strong. The next name storm will be the "C" storm. When and where will it develop? When SANDY passed us as a Tropical Wave who could imagine the monster it would later become? The photo shows how the Crepe Myrtle flowers bowed to the heavy rain yesterday. The branches usually stand straight up. I think I prefer this bowed look. My daughter and family, who live in the apt downstairs, don't mind having it partially covering the window. They have other windows, besides, from one of those branches hangs a feeder for the Yellow Breast birds, known here as Sugar Birds because they love sugar. We can still expect some rain today, otherwise the weather should improve through the weekend. There are other TWs on the way, thanks to the Saharan Dust, formation of these is very difficult. A Rainy, Good Morning! During the night, flashes of lightning heralded the approach of the Tropical Wave. Our elderly dog was restless; we thought maybe it had to do with the weather. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast until Thursday. Let's follow the Wave! The previous one is headed to Vera Cruz where copious amounts of rain is expected. Stay tuned! | - A "Weak Wave" Approaching..? |

Hello and Good Night! I listen to NOAA Weather Radio quite frequently, like every time I'm in the kitchen. Can't help it, it's right there. Well, I'm mighty confused because they are now calling for a weak wave passing Wednesday into Thursday, with a probability of an increase of rain; yet, on the other hand, they also tell us that we're going to have numerous showers and thunderstorms, that does not sound like a weak wave with just a probability of rain. The satellite imagery on stormcarib is showing quite a wide area of storminess, so I guess we'll just wait and see what tomorrow brings. It won't be a good day for putting on the roof of the gazebo, if the weak wave turns out to be stronger than they think. I like to multitask, so if the weather is not good for one task it will be good for another. I have a "ton" of things to do and not enough hours in the day to do them. Besides, some of those hours go to reading, rest, (w)riting, and relaxation, all of which is an earned privilege especially when we are living on borrowed Time. Good Night, All! Before I retire I wanted to bring your attention to the increasing activity. As TD Two ploughs through Beliz and surroundings, I am keeping a watch on another Wave. It's quite a large one capable of becoming something. NOAA Radio tells us it will be in our area by Wednesday. I hope that we are ready with everything we'll be needing throughout this season. Be safe. Watch Hurricane Hunters this week on the Weather Channel and see what those brave people have to do to gather data that save lives. In the first showing, the lady pilot was seen arriving back home to the arms of her little son with a gift she bought him in St. Croix where the Hunters call home for a spell. Happy Sun and Father's Day! As I sat on this bench where I had a commanding view of earth, sea, and sky, I enjoyed the gentle breeze while keeping an eye on the dark cloud looming overhead. The % of rain is low, good for the Swim Meet today. Our swimmer did so well yesterday that she will be moving up to the Gold team. For now it just means more training... Back to another %, the disturbance in Central Caribbean is now at 20%. It is being monitored. There are many TWs getting ready to track across the Atlantic towards the islands; the Saharan dust is keeping them to the South at the moment. Good for us, bad for them. One way or the other potential storms will cross the Atlantic. May God bless all Dads this day and all of us throughout this hurricane season. Isabel

Good afternoon! After the early thunderstorms this morning the day has dried out leaving a heavy tropical heat with additional thunderstorms in the forecast for later in the afternoon. The Swim Meet needed a dry weekend even though they were getting wet in the pool. They are called out if there's a possibility of lightning strikes. The Meet lasts through Sunday with teams coming from the mainland as well. We'll continue to hope for great weather for them and for all great Dads of which I know quite a few! Good Evening/Night, On checking stormcarib this evening I could not figure out where the TW was located. It seemed to be more to the south. It definitely was in the area; the sea was warm and I was getting chills! On the way back we passed the ballpark where a huge crowd was gathering for a game. The announcer's voice boomed throughout the vicinity. It seemed like an important game. About an hour after we arrived home it poured and I felt sorry for all those folks on the bleachers and on the field as excitement built. After a pause another shower; clearly we were getting some of the TW. Our 12 yr old gd hopes that the Swim Meet tomorrow will be TW free. So we hope. God bless us all, especially all Dads as they get ready for their DAY! Isabel

A Pleasant, Good Morning! The "lush" part of our secret garden is an abundance of rain; Every day, or at night, we get enough to keep the plants happy and the fruit trees producing. Sometimes the paths disappear and park benches are hidden by over sized ground cover, however, before long and lots of TLC it becomes once again "a thing of beauty". More rain is coming tonight and tomorrow in the form of a Tropical Wave, according to NOAA Radio. There are already signs of a change in the weather. Stay tuned! God bless us! Isabel

Good night, All! Hope it's been a good one for everyone! We had some nice rain showers today. They really help to keep us cool, at least on our hill. The pineapple of a few photos ago is now sitting on the counter. It's too pretty to eat; maybe it can be part of the gazebo celebration, but can we resist that long? The weather has been holding up, just a shower now and then, so before long it should be completed. We can hardly wait. It's all part of our 50th year celebration this year. Much ado is going on and people are expected from off island. However, we have to accept whatever comes. I heard on The Weather Channel that the MJO is going to be set in place in the Atlantic by June 25; that should allow the formation of storms. Not a good thought with which to end the day, so I shall bid you all sweet dreams and God's blessing! |

Good Evening, We're having the effects of a "weak trough"- an elongated region of relatively low pressure, often associated with "fronts". (Wikipedia). What are "fronts"? Naw, not the opposite of backs. Can't explain it now, but Wiki informs us that "it is usually less convective than a trough in the tropics or subtropics...." We had rumbles of thunder and heavy showers. It seems to have passed now, however, the sky remains very dark as if there's more coming. On Friday the next Tropical Wave is predicted for the region. No rain, though it seems always on the verge. The Satellite Imagery on stormcarib looks very active, but nothing going on around here except for the gray sky and sea. Each day there's another face to the day. One never knows what to expect, because even if the weatherman says it's going to rain, it does not always happen on our side. Our Gazebo builder almost did not come one day as it was pouring where he lived and it was dry here. The distance between both places is not that big. So, visitors, do not hesitate to visit. It does not rain everywhere at the same time, and it passes quickly anyway, unless there is a tropical system affecting us, then it usually covers the whole island and beyond. The next TW (tropical wave) according to NOAA radio is arriving on Friday. Enjoy each day as it comes, it could very well be our last, right? God bless you and me and "all ah we" ! Isabel |

In my previous post which I revised and revised I still made a funky error. The "sea mili-inches from Earth" ? I meant the SUN. Thank you, I know I'm excused. The photo below shows why the sea is getting warmer. Could the sea be mili-inches nearer to Earth? Most likely not; it just feels that way. The photo was taken towards evening, same as the previous one. In that post I mentioned that the sea felt warmer. According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) that is one of the reasons for their high prediction of 13-20 name storms this season. The wind shear works in our favor, as for instance, in the case of this latest Invest 92L approaching us. It was sheared apart by high winds of 30-40 knots, and we were spared a potential storm. This will not always be the case; that's another reason for the high prediction of name storms. We can expect passing showers from the tropical wave through the weekend. Those are most welcome. The area of disturbed weather that was being investigated has been discontinued. The Saharan dust choked it. The weekend may not be as wet. We had this beach all to ourselves, my husband and I, towards evening. The sea felt a lot warmer today. I spoke with our son in Queens, NY and they were getting a good soaking; the total extreme of our day. There are many soon to be storms coming off the coast of Africa. Let's be attentive. It was just one of those days! Good to enjoy them while we can. As Gert mentioned, the blob to our east has been upgraded to Invest 92L. It does not seem to have much of a chance to develop but you never know. Good thing is that it might go north of us. NOAA Radio is predicting rain on Sunday from that system, if it doesn't the Youth Group will be happy to have their event as planned. We shall see. May God bless us all. Isabel

Here we go! Early in June already the first name storm! More people die in storms from the surge and flooding than from the wind. I just saw that report a few days ago. So, be very careful Floridians and everyone in the path of ANDREA. I suggest you monitor this storm if you are within the cone, or projected path. Tune in to the Weather Channel at ten to the hour for the Tropical Update for the latest and check in at stormcarib at any time to find out if and when anything is coming from Africa . There are several tropical waves on the way to the Atlantic, some are already making their way across. We were hit by a deluge all morning with short breaks in between; all that from a "weak" tropical wave. The next one is halfway here, probably by the weekend we should see that one unless it moves to the North or South of us. Let's track these systems and not get caught off guard. May God bless us all. There are not just two Blobs, but rather, a series of them which can become name storms in the near figure. Keep your eyes to the East, towards Africa. Hi folks! Doesn't that sound like the title of a song? Perhaps, but what it means is that I was under the weather for a short spell, so the thunderstorm last night was a special treat. It rained and poured and rained again! I'm sure we got something in the cisterns, I hope. More was promised for today, but though it looked threatening and everyone had to tote an umbrella, it did not rain. That was good for the construction that's going on in our lower garden. My husband had been wanting a Gazebo for the longest while, so he finally got a model from the Internet and contacted a fine Carpenter we know from Barbados. They both have been working on it. They mixed and poured the cement for the floor. Some Gazebo, that! Rain today definitely would not have helped, but we did get a few drops this evening.I'm keeping an eye on the African Coast. There are two large looking Blobs heading for the coast. It's not too early to start stocking up on non-perishables, etc..Every time we go shopping we should get a few additional items for our Hurricane Pantry, instead of making a dash for everything one time. Good evening! Rain, rain everywhere! The Northeast has been getting pummeled,-when I arrived there on the 8 May they were having a dry spell in New York. They thanked me for the rain which arrived the next day. Since then they've been getting rain regularly with some clear, warm days in between. May was cold, I had to warm my hands at the open toaster, and one day I turned on the oven to heat the kitchen!. (All I had to do was ask that the heat be turned on, but this was an experience for me coming from warm St. Croix.) Florida is suppose to be the Sunshine State, but the rain has not stopped and now they are being threatened by Invest 91, more RAIN! As for us, we are happy when we hear some drops on the roof, hoping that more will follow. The word is that we should be getting a good amount tonight and tomorrow from a weak tropical wave.That's great! We need the rain. My husband was checking the cisterns. So, between our weather and theirs, they are getting the better part. I wish them some of our sunshine, especially in Richmond Hill, Queens where I spent three wonderful weeks. Let us try to stay safe and enjoy each day as it comes, and may God bless us all. |

Can one really say that ? Of course we can! As long as we do the right things to prepare, yes, we can be happy resting assured that we have done everything to stay safe if there is a storm. There are two tropical waves out there in the Atlantic at the moment, nothing ominous looking; however, with the sea being warmer, each wave has the potential of becoming something to watch. In the meanwhile we can enjoy the season along with the tourists. Be well, be happy, and may God bless us all. I got a jump start last night. Now it's after midnight and the season is official. I usually write only from June 1st_Nov.1st . Hope all my Caribbean neighbors and friends have been well weather wise and otherwise . We had a landslide a month ago after the torrential rain from the first tropical wave. Since then it has rained a good bit but not enough to satisfy the many demands on the Washing Machine, not to mention daily baths/showers of five people. We depend on rain for our cisterns. It rained copiously in NY where I spent three weeks recently; just returned a couple days ago. It was cold! Not all the time, of course. Extreme heat set in after I left. Before I turn in I want to draw your attention to a very large blob just exiting the African coast. Chances are, the Saharan dust in the vicinity will destroy it. Keep an eye to the weather. A Big HELLO to everyone around the globe who tune in to Stormcarib !! It is hazy and warm with a very nice breeze on our hill. An early warning by NOAA of up to 20 name storms for this season is most unsettling. Are we ready for this? No way! After SANDY last year there are many out there who fail to believe that it can happen again. And yet, it can! June 1st is the beginning of what can be an unforgettable Hurricane Season, especially where the storms make landfall. Preparedness is of utmost importance. By tracking the storms, listening, reading the latest developments, etc. we can be on top of Andrea, or Barry, or Chantal and on down the line. It up to us to remain informed. This website does a great job doing just that thanks to Gert. We should promote it as much as possible so that those with interests, be it people or property, on the islands, can know what the conditions are before and after a storm. So, here we are, another hurricane season! I wish everyone well, stay safe and may God bless us all. Isabel
