- Bizarre Weather |
Dear People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, my sincere condolences! it has been a shocking turn of events in the weather pattern that has left such a catastrophic scenario on your island and surrounding islands. May the folks who lost loved ones be consoled by the compassion of those around them and the prayers from everywhere else. I was wary of the fact that Sept and October were so dry and quiet. The peak of the Hurricane Season? And then the storminess started from Nov. 1 and has not stopped. Hardly a day goes by without rain, but our worse weather has been around Christmas. We've never had such weather. It was very stormy with very strong gusts of wind and heavy, torrential rain. There were flash flood warnings out. Before Christmas, a couple of weeks earlier we had such torrential rain that in some areas the streets flooded and water was halfway up the tires of the vehicles. The thunderstorms were continuous and everyone was questioning, what's all this about. Well, I was following the activity on NOAA Radio and on OneCaribbeanTV, checking information and radar and I saw it all coming; amazing how accurate it was. The blob that caused the major flooding earlier came from the north, straight up. The rest of the dramatic weather that caused all of that disaster in St. Vincent came from the East and there are other waves leaving Africa, but this is no longer any concern for the experts who are now focusing on Winter Storms. In the meanwhile, if we don't pay attention we can get hit real hard as indeed it has and can again. There was talk about extending the hurricane season, perhaps it's time. |

- Rain, Rain, Rain! |
Hello and goodbye again! It's been sunny and rainy, mostly rainy on this last day of the official hurricane season. The rain we should've had since Sept is finally here. Let's see how long this lasts, and it's not only St. Croix. This is all part of "climate change", I guess! ( this morning an unsolicited photo snuck into my update__the Cloud Face. The rainy photo was the featured one.) The one attached now is facing east with another downpour on the way. And that's the way it's been on this day November 30th. Blessings to ALL! Isabel Our inherited dog Bunny is elderly, blind, and does not know if he's coming or going, very picky, and sleeps a lot. He most probably will not be around next time. We have enjoyed his company. - Last Official Day of the Hurricane Season |
Greetings from a grateful heart! My goodbye is a VERY rainy one as you see from the photo. As you know me by now after so many years of writing for stormcarib, I send updates from June to November. However, if we have anything noteworthy to report, I will update. Feel free to write to me at any time. I wish all the correspondents and loved ones a very happy, safe, and blessed Christmas or other celebration according to your religious affiliation. Likewise, I wish the same for all the faithful friends of stormcarib some of whom have written interesting emails, asking more info about St. Croix, but mostly complimentary . .Thanks and best wishes to Gert and family. He is currently in Antarctica, out of commission for 66 days he said. Have a wonderful entry to 2014 and may the next Hurricane Season be as gentle.!! AND may God bless us ALL!! Hello, Everyone! The hurricane season is winding down and I am spiraling up as one of the busiest times of the year begins. (How I wish I could sit on one of those chairs and "chill out". 😊 ) Let's hope and pray that all goes well as we take it one day at a time and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |

You have to live it to know. The "quiet conditions" in our region are far from quiet. We've been having thunderstorms, heavy rain, and very poor visibility. I understand that flights were cancelled from St. Thomas. VI Alert has a Flood Advisory until 12:30 p.m today. "Quiet conditions" ?? Far from it. Now, if they are referring to tropical systems that's another story. MELISSA is moving away from us and will probably disintegrate before long. However, the hurricane season is not over. There can even be an extension into December according to one source! It would not be the first Be well, be prepared for a hurricane, an earthquake, and tsunami. Those happened all within one month on Nov. 18, 1867!! Hundreds died! Don't take life for granted! May God bless us all! - Rainy Night, Rainy Morning |
Good Morning! Rain is always good especially when needed. November has been a good rainy month for us. Some thunder boomed also like punctuation marks. At this time Gert is on a scientific cruise in Antarctica. His update from Punta Arenas, Chile brought back memories of when we lived in the Capital, Santiago, and were invited by an engineer friend to visit an oil rig in Punta Arenas. Quite an experience! I wish Gert a very interesting trip and may he be blessed, as well as us all. Have a wonderful day. Isabel Very early morning photo 11/21 Sent from my iPod |
- The Corinth Cramer's Annual Visit |
Dear, All! Is everyone celebrating the end of the Hurricane Season? Well, Sub-tropical storm MELISSA is reminding us that anything can happen. In the meanwhile we have the visit of the tall ship Corinth Cramer as seen from our house and then up closer. You will notice a sign "Gallows Bay". Just want you to know that there was never such activity. It probably was intended for that purpose "donkey years" ago, but never got started. However, the location retains the name. It is now a bustling little shopping district. As you can see from the photos we are having great weather (again). The M storm has caused a lot of turbulence and people have been cautioned to stay out of the sea. We can still see some activity, so let's not be too quick in closing the book on the 2013 season. Be well, be happy, and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Great Weather |
....for the Sailboat Regatta! Sunny, breezy, perhaps too breezy! They definitely seemed to be struggling. A couple of them were straying off course. The problem there is the reef. The weather changed dramatically since this morning when it was quite overcast with showers. It was still better than what we heard. We are also celebrating my grandson's 14th birthday, so the weather is great all around. We are thankful for the blessings. Have a wonderful day and may God continue to bless us all. - Change of Weather |
Good night, all. Anyone looking up at the sky in the Caribbean now, as I just did, will notice a huge, wide ring around the moon. That usually means a change in the weather. I did hear on the radio that the weather will be unstable through the night. We shall see, or sleep through it, have a nice weekend. May God bless us all. Isabel Attached is this morning's photo. What a glorious hurricane season we have had, so far! We have many reasons to be thankful this year; this is one of them. Veterans Day 2013. May it be a great one for all veterans. It has been a very comfortable, breezy day. Threatening clouds came and went. - Peacock at the Altona Park |
We prayed our way through the park this morning thinking of the tremendous disaster in the Philippines and all the horror stories which often follow. Suddenly, there was this proud peacock showing off it's colors while doing a little shuffle perhaps to ward off the chicken around him, or perhaps just to show off. He has been happy there at the Susana Santana Ocasio Park at Altona Beach. This was an abandoned place for many years when this Lady with a green thumb made it famous and popular one tree at a time. The peacock and other wildlife are only too happy to live there. If we enjoyed what we have, be it ever so simple, one day at a time, we would get more enjoyment out of it. May God bless us all. ....go out to the Filipino community here and elsewhere whose loved ones and friends suffered the onslaught of the largest typhoon/hurricane ever. What can one say when someone comes up with tear-filled eyes, a heart troubled with the anxiety of not knowing what became of her parents and others dear to her who lived in the hardest hit area at landfall? Last night before I retired CNN reported that an aviator saw at least 100 bodies on the streets. Is has been reported that some people refused to leave. This typhoon was definitely not just another typhoon, it was the Mother of typhoons. Heads Up, everyone! What happened there will soon become the norm. Perhaps the prophecy of "frightful hurricanes " is being fulfilled. HUGO, SANDY, and any major hurricane you remember can in no way compare with Typhoon HAIYAN. So, if we are at the end of this hurricane season, it's not too soon to prepare for the next. May God bless the Philippines and those far away who wait for any news, hopefully good news, from their loved ones. I had to wait wait more than two weeks after HUGO devastated St. Croix before my sister could call me in New York. I know exactly what these unfortunate souls are suffering. May God bless us all. - Unsettled Weather |
Hello, again! A day that was supposed to be sunny and dry turned out rather thundery with threatening skies. Some places must have seen rain. Dark clouds are still around and off to our East it's thundering again. We certainly have had a change in the weather this November. This is typical of September onwards. Have a nice rest of day and we'll see what tomorrow brings. Blessings! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Green Weather |
Good Morning! What lush green, and what growing grass! Fortunately, our grandson mentioned the lawn mowing on his own! The days of rain were in dire need. Our cisterns received a good share for which we're grateful. Now some dry days are ahead, but other rainy days will come. There are some people who declare that it ALWAYS rains here on Veterans Day. We'll see if it's true this coming Monday😉! Have a great day, and may God bless is all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Is the "M" Storm Forming ?? |
Good Morning, Caribbean and beyond! By the looks of it, and from what I heard this morning, I would say "yes"! There is a 10% chance of this system, which has been dumping flooding rains on us and surrounding islands, to become the next name storm as it moves sloooowly to the Western Caribbean. Unfortunately our friends who are traveling to Guatemala this coming week will probably have to deal with it. Not too long ago the correspondent from Belize wrote that a storm was predicted to go into that area sometime this coming week. We have been having heavy rain again since before dawn and a new Flood Alert has been issued until 9:15 a.m. These conditions will remain through Tuesday and probably longer. I shall update later, if possible. Have a wonderful day and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Heavy Rain! |
Good night, folks! As I said in a previous update, it seems as if November is going to be a rainy month, with possibly a name storm, or two? The heavy rain we are having at the moment is indicative of a very unstable region. Perfect for the formation of tropical storms. I don't know if I heard right, but did the man in the weather radio, say it's going to rain all week..?? We're having some very serious flooding here. We were planning to go to Fredriksted tomorrow some 30 miles away to attend the Kweyol Mass, but that may not be possible at all. There are two areas on the Melvin Evans Highway that are under water and even if it clears some, it will probably be raining again. It's quite heavy right now. Our cisterns must be full, or almost there, with so much rain in the last days. Yippee! Be well, be happy, God loves us. Blessings! Isabel |
- FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT until 5:45 p.m. |
Hello! We're having a stormy Saturday afternoon. It's been thundering with heavy rain, which has called for an advisory for flood prone areas. I think we have a name system forming; Dr Masters said as much. For those of you in the Caribbean especially who are becoming complacent here is what he recalled in his most recent blog yesterday, "Deadly late-season Atlantic hurricanes are growing more frequent" (Dr. Jeff Masters 2010) . Complacency to me is being "Snug as a bug in a rug". Eventually along comes a HUGO or one of his Allies and the rugs and bugs end up in a huge pile outside.(I also just got an alert of a 3.0 earthquake off Luquillo, PR--one of many since the beginning of the year!). We must be prepared for both hurricanes and earthquakes. Another thing for us to keep in mind is that Nov. 30th means absolutely nothing to the storms, they form wherever the ingredients are ripe and ready. Climate Change has changed many things. The question has already been asked as to the possibility of an extension of the hurricane season. That should not surprise us. So, don't be a "bug in the rug". Be prepared, and may God bless us ALL! - A Mini Storm |
Good Morning, All! The rain has been heavy since I've been up before 6:00 a.m. It would be interesting to know how strong those wind gusts were. This smacks of a storm brewing down the road. If the photo looks a bit fuzzy, -that's RAIN! I think this is the 100% rain that was forecast for last night. This system is not only broad, it's moving like molasses going uphill. My turtle is faster, that's why people began to ask "when is dis ting comin'?" Well it's here now! Enjoy, and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Mostly Gray All Day |
Hello, Everyone out there! Though it may look by the radar that we are having a deluge. Nah! Not a drop of rain all day. There was a 70% since 11:00 a.m., fortunately nothing then, nor now as yet for the sake of the school children on the way home or to other activities. I did hear on NOAA that we will be having a 100% chance of rain. I think it is later tonight. We shall see. I have to go out anyway, so it does not matter to me if it rains or not as far as that is concerned. Only a hurricane can keep me in. (But I must say, I rather be in to enjoy the rain from my home. When it gets really cozy, I turn on the DVD fireplace.) I will check back later to update on conditions, if there is anything to report. Have a nice All Hallow's Eve and may God bless us all. |
- Active Weather Ahead ?!? |
Good Night, All! I've been listening to NOAA Radio this evening and they keep repeating that a large trough is developing over the Eastern Caribbean, which will move slowly through until Saturday. This trough can develop into a Low Pressure System Thursday and Friday. Now, it does not always happen as in the forecast, but if we look at the current radar there seems to be a lot of moisture around. I always say, go ahead with plans and see what happens. Perhaps it will not be as wet as it seems now. One thing we must remember is that we are still in the hurricane season and there can be lots more activity ahead than we've had in the past months. We have been enjoying a most spectacular time, with the weather being so calm and perfect. Let's just take it one day at a time, and may God bless us all. |
- Showery Morning |
Hello! I just want to say.....we're having a showery day. The sky is quite overcast and looks as if it plans to stay that way for a while at least. I'm at the Gazebo enjoying the sound of raindrops on the roof, despite the shrill squawks of the neighbor's parrot😝! Have a great day! Blessings! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- The Weak Wave |
Good Morning, All! I guess I can say we got a decent amount of rain overnight. I slept through it all, but there's a lot of water everywhere, just perfect for the "towel brigade". I hope Dave could finally put his on duty . There's a 50% chance of rain for the rest of the day. We've heard rumbles of thunder to our West, otherwise, it has truly behaved like the "weak" wave predicted by NOAA Radio. I am grateful for every drop of rain even if it means extra work mopping the porch. Our carpenter is scheduled to raise the ridge along the border of the roof so that we can catch more for the cisterns and less for the towel brigade. We hope he can get that done before Rainy November begins. Have a great day. I will probably check in before the end of the day. Blessings to you and your loved ones near and far. - Mixed Weather Bag |
Good Evening! It definitely was not completely "fair" as predicted. The reef was white with the surf, the sea was choppy, and this evening some very dark ominous clouds threatened and did dump some rain into the sea as it passed by (see photo). The Weather Channel once again mentioned the M J Oscilation which should turn this way with clusters of thunderstorms in one to two weeks. That being the case, November could be a very stormy month. All I wish for is a decent among of rain. This is the second time that the MJO has been in the forecast in less than a month. They seem to think it will happen based on scientific studies of the atmospheric conditions. Let's watch and pray. May God bless us all. Isabel Attachment:

- Rain...?? |
Hello, Hello! Rain..! It was so nice that I went out on the porch and almost fell asleep on the swivel comfy chair. It lasted a good while. For a 20% chance, not bad at all. We look forward to the tropical wave on Tuesday. Crown Weather says it's "vigorous", NOAA Radio says it's "weak". Time will tell. In the meanwhile, tomorrow, Monday, should be"fair". Will be in touch. Have a good night and may God bless us all. Isabel |
- Serious, BIG, Weather Coming...?? (Continued from previous...) |
Sorry about that. It got away before I finished. This system mentioned earlier is expected to arrive at the Lesser Antilles by Tuesday. It remains to be seen if it will be destroyed by the wind or not. At the moment "a pair of tropical waves" according to NOAA,"one tonight and the other on Tuesday" will be affecting our area. The one on 43W "bears watching". Let's do that, and may God bless us all. Isabel |
- Serious, BIG, Weather Coming..?? |
Good Afternoon, All! It seems that the tropical wave on 43W is rather suspicious. I understand that by the aggressive nature of this system it should already have been circled by the NHC. This the wave that should be in our area by Tuesday Sent from my iPod |
- Night Flowers on a Breezy Night |
I'm turning in and they're turning out. The breeze is strong at times. I heard on NOAA that three tropical waves will be in the vicinity through Tuesday. They may not necessarily give us rain, but the breeze is an asset. I'll take it. Have a great weekend. May God bless us all. Isabel Attachment:

- Another One of Those Days |
Good Afternoon, World, awake or asleep! I am taking the days one at a time. Here, they have been pretty much the same as far as the weather is concerned; very much like today's photo. It's an absolute delight, except for the hankering after rain. THAT could be remedied if the "numerous showers" heard on NOAA Radio became a reality, but often that's not the case. I have to admit that dry weather means no mowing, nor trimming, but then, no water is a serious matter. What are we to do with a beautiful day? Enjoy it and know that there's a little cloud on the way, for sure, with at least a soothing sprinkle or two. May God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- The WATER Truck and the Weather |
Hello there ! Believe it or not, we had to buy water! We just were not getting enough from above to make a "dent". So, we called our reliable "water people" for the usual 3000 gallons with the hope that soon the rainy season will finally arrive in Christiansted. Today, the weather is as dry as ever, though nicer with the breeze. Definitely perfect vacation weather for outsiders and insiders alike. Be well, be happy, and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Tropical Storm LORENZO! |
Good Night, All! Have no fear, LORENZO is not near! He, or it, is some 600 miles southeast of Bermuda. WE finally had a good shower or two, or more. I was caught in a deluge in the late afternoon. I turned in to Gas City to fill up the tank and the rain was so intense one could hardly see through it. I got into a weather conversation and passed on the website to "Jim ". He was looking forward to checking it out. This morning I got a very special early morning treat with a painting in the clouds. I see a Father and a child. I see Love. That made my day even before I really got started. May God bless us all! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Happy Sunday Rain |
The plants are happy, our cisterns are happy, we are happy and we hope you are happy too! This rain was announced for tomorrow with the passage of a tropical wave which has been edging closer since last night. We were planning to order 3000 gallons of water tomorrow, perhaps we can get it from above..? Thank God for every drop, and while we're at it, pray for the folks in Japan who are threatened by Super Typhoon Francisco. May God bless us all. Isabel Attachment:

- Saturday's Mid-afternoon Thunder Cloud |
Hello! Okay, yes, I did say I will not write this weekend unless there is something. Well, this cloud has been vocal. That's note-worthy, but more important perhaps is what I heard on the Weather Channel. Let's pay attention to the next week to two weeks. According to them the MJO is changing direction from the East Pacific this way carrying with it thunderstorms such as it has been doing out to the Pacific from which came many Name storms. Maybe that's what this cloud is trying to tell me. Let's do research on the MJO and find out more on what this can mean for us. Maybe Dave can clarify. TWC showed a line of thunderstorms stretching from the East Pacific, through the Caribbean and out to the North Atlantic direction of Africa. Blessings! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Re: incomplete message |
Sorry, I was just going to correct a word and the message went out. Oops! I definitely must wish an IPad from my Santa this Christmas! Back to business... Frederiksted is the correct spelling. Also, the second photo is quite eerie. It's looking more like Autumn. I wish you all a wonderful weekend. I will only update if there's anything unusual to report. - The Mid-afternoon Sky |
Good Afternoon, All! Well, the "deep moisture" I mentioned never made it here. As a result, no rain. I must speak with someone in Fredericksted more than 30 miles West to find out if there's is the same story. We are having a delightful breeze, though, which we haven't had in a long while either, so I suspect there is moisture in the vicinity somewhere. The sky certainly looks interesting. The first photo is facing North. Some of the larger islands, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda, are clearly visible. Sent from my iPod |
- Re: Deep Moisture |
I checked the animation on stormcarib and did notice that the wind is pushing everything up from the south. I heard again on NOAA Radio about the unstable weather approaching. The wind has been blowing away everything coming from the east. Now, will it pull "deep moisture" up from the South.? It will be most welcome whatever direction it comes from. Ever heard of 33 inches of rain in less than 24 hrs? That was in Japan from Cyclone Whipa!! Horrors! We could not possibly deal with so much rain! The photo was taken on Monday towards the North. It looks like a huge dove swooping down. So, let's see if the weather does change! Blessings! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- FAIR - 87 degrees |
A FAIR and Good Afternoon to all! September ended and October started the same way. It makes me wonder how long this FAIR weather is going to last. Could the Seasons be confused due to Climate Change? Is this the real quiet before all the stormy weather.? Shouldn't we just be happy that we have FAIR weather, and when it does rain, it's often a brief shower at night.? So many questions!! Why not take one day at a time. For instance, today we had before us the most beautiful blue sea, calm, and majestic. We thought of the visitors from Denmark who usually begin their group vacations at this time and were happy for them. The weather is great! Now this morning I heard something on the radio that indicated a change for the next several days, for our area. I have yet to hear it again, but if it does happen it will certainly change the picture. I heard "deep moisture", "trough" and so on with "numerous thunderstorms". I checked the satellite imagery and see nothing to indicate this change.(Must be another country!) So, the best thing is to take it one day at a time and enjoy it the best we can. AND may God bless us all.Isabel |

- Same Old, Same Old |
Hello, Again! The weather continues being so nice that Speedy allowed Cocoa to ride on its shell a short distance with supervision. In the meanwhile I have check the location of 98L and found that it is now very wide and very disorganized. According to NOAA Radio the rain from that system should be in our area by Thursday (for the rain, if we're lucky! The latter part of the week should be wet and unstable. If, however, after 2 days, the wind shear is expected to die down, it that happens we can be looking at another name storm. Have a good night's rest and we'll continue watching tomorrow. Blessings!Isabel |
- Tranquility Reigns and Not Much Rain |
Good Night, All! Not much change around here weather wise. We continue having great weather for vacationers and locals who like to think they're on vacation. I have been keeping myself informed as to the progress of 98L. The last information, as of 7:00p.m today, from Dr. Masters' coordinates is that the Low Pressure system is moving West at 35mph and is located at 11.8N 43.9W. It is very disorganized and is to pass very near to the Northern Lesser Antilles by Wednesday according to some of the computer models. That, of course, can change. At the moment the wind shear is very strong and is expected to last this way for at least 3 days. We could get some rain out of it. That definitely would be a treat! Our cisterns are in dire need of water. I prefer if it comes from Heaven. It's free! Be well, be happy, and may God bless us all. Have a great weekend (extra day on Monday for those in the US/Territories). |
- a picture for you |
Good Night, All! It was another beautiful day. We went for an evening swim at our favorite beach and before we left I took a few photos. This particular one is kind of curious. The clouds seem to have taken the form of a carnival float. There's a visible driver of a truck with big bunny ears flopping forward. The rest is up to everyone's imagination. With the 10th of October being the second peak of the hurricane season, and we're still having such "unseasonal" weather, it does not look as if there's much left to it. However, 98L bears watching; it has a 60% chance of developing into a hurricane. It looks large judging from the satellite images. and behind it are others which also have to be monitored. We're not out of the woods yet. One woman commented today that she has not had so much fruit on her trees since HUGO! That was a bad year. Let's hope and pray for East India which is going to have a landfalling Super Cyclone in a densely populated area. Let's pray for us that we can get through this season without any major storm. Good Afternoon! Rain has been such a rare event in what usually is our Rainy Season, that I cannot help by make much ado about it. I was so happy that I totally forgot that my car windows were open! |
Good Morning, World! This calm serene scene is before me and it makes me feel sorry for all those in trouble spots, be they natural or man made. |
Hello! It's been an unbelievable hurricane season! Flat, warm sea, a veritable bathtub! Now, we are watching 98L which has a good chance of becoming a cyclone. One of the computer models has it tracking up to our area. The most reliable ones are not giving it much importance. They expect it to become a fish storm, not affecting any land. WE should monitor it anyway. As for the rainy season, it seems there's been a delay! Be well, be happy, and may God bless us all. Isabel Attachment:

Good night, AlI! I guess we can sleep easy as Dr. Masters wrote in his blog that 98L, a Low Pressure system off the coast of Africa on Friday, shall not be troubling any land. I prefer to keep an eye on it to be absolutely sure. So, monitor this system and thank God for the quiet season we've been having. Rain has been in the forecast for days on end, but it has been sparse. Our cisterns are getting low. I hope the next Wave will bring us some. Have a restful night and may God bless us all. |
- Thunderstorm Approaching! |
Hello, Out There! We haven't had this much activity for a long while, but the "proof is in the pudding". Are we getting any rain out of this..? We were discussing about the water level in the cisterns and realize that we do have to consider buying another truck full of water soon. To our East there's a Low which is being given a 20% chance of developing in the next five days . We have time to watch it. Be well, be happy and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Hot, sticky, icky Weather |

Good Afternoon, All! Just learned that Tropical Storm KAREN which formed in the Gulf of Mexico could become a hurricane before it makes landfall along the coast. As for us, we have typical hurricane ingredients, fortunately, no substance for the stew. The, fuel, very warm Sea, is ready and we hope it cools down before anything comes along. I pray that everyone along the path of KAREN, the 11th name storm, will take all the necessary precautions to be safe. May God bless them and us all. Isabel |
- Rain? How Rare! |
Good Afternoon on this first day of October! Rain has been so rare indeed that it is both noteworthy and picture worthy. In some places, like here, it can be a blessing, in others, not so. I understand that areas in Haiti are flooded due to all the rain they have been getting. And so it goes. We hope that October will bring us at least one good downpour each day or night. Our visitors have been having incredibly great weather throughout this hurricane season. JERRY has made an appearance, and the disturbance in the Western Caribbean is being closely monitored as it heads to the Gulf of Mexico. We have a way to go before the end of the season. May God bless us all! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- A Shady, Breezy Spot |
Hello, again! Is it 89 degrees that feels like 99? Or 95 that feels like 103 degrees! Either way, it's hot, but I am in a hammock in the gazebo enjoying a most delightful breeze. The photo was taken from the gazebo showing the path that leads back up to the house. This is certainly a blessing! I wish you all the same. There are areas of activity that could indicate an end to all this tranquility we've been having, however, enough dry air and wind shear are in place to prevent anything from forming in the Atlantic. The troublesome areas for the rest of the H season could be right in our backyard. Let's monitor the suspects. May God bless us now and always. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Lizzie and the Weather |
Good afternoon, All! Lizzie, the lizard, joined us for lunch as she and her friends usually do on such an especially beautiful day. We were admiring how the sea looked like a lake. It was warm and calm when we went to the beach earlier. So unlike September! To celebrate the month we had (sparingly ) some of the contents of the bottle of Rosemont Red wine from Eastern Australia! How delicious! Cheers to you Aussies for producing such a good, red wine. Lizzie did not have wine, but she did seem to enjoy the piece of pasta and smidgen of lettuce. Fine weather is good, however, we look forward to some RAIN! Lizzie probably does too. Have a great weekend and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- From The Plum Tree.. |
Here we are again, at the end of another gorgeous day. It was rain less for visitors, but for us it rained at night and that's the way I like it. There's talk of a weak wave passing by Sunday into Monday, other than that it should continue Isabel

- St. Croix: Sunny, Hot, and Always Beautiful |
Hello again! We're having great weather for our vacationers, or anyone on a business trip. It is enviable to those left behind. From my vantage point I have a spectacular view of sea, land, and sky; the Secret Garden (see photo), however, is another world altogether. Sunny pathways lead to arches through which dark, shady, cool spaces offer a refreshing escape. How long is all this fine weather going to last? Seems like it's going to be with us for the rest of the Hurricane Season. I think this one will go down in history as the most boring one for the folks at the Weather Channel who seem to thrive on storms! BUT, it's not over until over! We should be prepared at all times for anything! May God bless us all! Isabel Attachment:

- Happy/Sad Tuesday.. |
All is well, here, at least. We finally had some RAIN last night; so I was told. I slept through it! I am hoping to hear an update from the hurricane experts. Are the other six or seven storms predicted for this "very active" season still in place? Or can we start relaxing..? On another note, a sad one, my condolences go out to the family and friends of the Trinidadian who was killed, in the Shopping Mall, during the Kenya Siege, together with many others. May God bless you and us all! Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- A Delayed Season, Perhaps |
Good Morning! The photo today speaks volumes of the day ahead. Clear, as opposed to yesterday's mysterious haze; hot and dry. No rain in sight. We will probably have to buy Isabel Let's help Gert today with whatever we can, ok? Attachment:

- Volcanic Ash? |
Good Afternoon, All! Is it Saharan dust? Or is it Volcanic Ash? It smelt smokey, more like the smell on the Sulfatara Crater in Italy on which we stood, like so many foolish tourists years ago; or along and on the freshly cooled flowing lava in Hawaii. Our view wherever we turned this morning was a smokey one. I have yet to check if there has been an eruption on Monserrat. The close up photo taken from home does not do much justice to the overall scene. It has also been hot and dry, would that the scattered showers in the forecast become a reality! Have a great rest of Sunday. May God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- Signs of Tropical Weather |
Helloooo! It's high noon and the thunder is rumbling true to the forecast. The sky looks very dramatic. I hope this is not all rumble with no substance, namely RAIN! We shall see. My concern is for the grand kids who went to a beach event in Frederiksted. Who knows, they probably have sunny skies over there😄. Have a great day and may God bless us all! - Another Hot, Dry Day |
Good Evening! This is the driest rainy season in recent memory! NOAA raises our hopes by announcing rain and perhaps it does on the other end of the island, but not where I live. The occasional brief showers are most welcome; they are refreshing, however, it's doubtful that the plants and cisterns benefit from them. Evenings are very pleasant; the sun is setting earlier making outdoor entertaining most enjoyable. So, September, the Lion, tis now a Lamb for our region. We hope it stays this way. May God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |
- I See Far |
Not to worry, but after I wrote earlier today, I noticed that there are quite a few waves in line waiting to step off. It's not over till it's over. At the moment our days have been of peace and tranquility with an occasional spotty shower. The hurricane season runs through November ! When I returned home from a prayer meeting this evening I snapped a picture of the last light of day. I hope it makes it with this update. Blessings! Isabel Attachment:

- Quiet Spell or end of Season? |
Good Morning, All! Unlike our neighborhood in the Atlantic, it certainly has not been quiet in the Gulf and Pacific. After being battered and beaten from both sides of Mexico the death toll now stands at 21. We can only imagine the chaos having been through storms ourselves. Today is the 24th anniversary of Hurricane HUGO's devastating, agonizing crawl over St. Croix in1989. We should all be thankful it's been quiet and pray it stays that way. May God bless us all. Isabel |
- Clouds of Joy and Sadness |
Good Morning! Hope you all had a great weekend, at least a good one. We're having sprinkles this morning otherwise it has been dry. The hurricane season seems over, but let's not deceive ourselves. Things happen in a hurry sometimes. While we have been joyful with our weather, others, like Mexico have had to deal with sadness, being batter by INGRID on one side and MANUEL on the other side; five people have died. So far, there's nothing out there that looks threatening. On the other hand, there's a huge blog far to our south that could be a serious threat to the folks there. I wish them. I'll be checking with updates from that region. May everyone have a great day and may God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |

A good Saturday morning to all! This day looks promising. We look forward to receiving our friends later, hoping that the weather system which has been slow in approaching will wait until the end of the festivities tonight before anything happens. I wonder why? Maybe because I've always wanted to travel there. Anyway, it has nothing to do with the weather, but while I'm at it, I was surprised to read from Trinidad about all the flooding going on there. I have to inform my friend here in case she is not aware of it. As I said before,"it's a mad, mad, weather world". All types of unusual weather is taking place around the globe. So, let's be thankful for each day and may God continue to bless us all. I s a b e l |
- A Phantom Weather System |
Good afternoon! I don't see it, but NOAA Weather Radio insists that a trough is going to bring us lots of rain on Saturday and Sunday. Perhaps it is coming up from the south...hmmm, we'll see. Today it's mostly sunny though the day started off with another face ( see photo). A low pressure system is located about 300 miles to our east; strong winds aloft is keeping it from becoming a menace. Boulder, Colorado is having deadly flooding. We certainly cannot complain,GABRIELLE'S passing by was the only thing that interrupted our "reverie". I must say that that woke us up for a while. The weather continues peaceful, thank God. BUT, we still have "lots left" _quoting Dave. I wish you all God's Blessing. Be safe out there! It's a mad, mad weather world! Israel Attachment:

- 911 Weather |
Before this day is over, I cannot help but share my thoughts. If the weather had only remained cloudy that day, but then it would have been another. The cold front had moved far enough away from land to provide the clearest day in days. Some people took the day off to enjoy it, I heard, while for others it was the first day of school, the first day back to work for some Twin Tower employees after vacation, the first time strange men flew big planes, the first trip to Disney Land for some passengers, the first of many things. I often reflect on our life in NY and how one of the first things we did was to take our visitors to the twin towers and go all the way up to the 110th floor--to the observation deck. In the mid-80's there was a pamphlet acquired in the Lobby which read, "The closest some of us will ever get to Heaven". Below, everything was matchbox size and I thought of the many people who were forced to plunge to their deaths by the raging fires. (My 13 yr old grandson had the misfortune of seeing a segment on TV where they actually showed the bodies hitting the ground. He said it was horrible. It has made a lasting impression, I'm sure.) Clouds often hid the top half of the buildings, so it was an eerie feeling when you had dinner at the Windows of the World Restaurant and could not see through that curtain of clouds..We experienced it once.We had a view of the Twin Towers from our 29th floor apt living room. I thought those buildings were so awesome that I would stand at the bottom, when there, and look straight up. Our hearts broke when we saw those awesome towers destroyed. It took seven years to build them and less than two hours to implode |
- A Wet Weekend Ahead ? |
Hello! We're having a beautiful day with interesting clouds passing by, some like to tease, but then they move on. When I say tease, I had some towels on the clothesline and I ran to remove them, that's how they tease. Of course it did not rain, but had I left them on the line, it would have! So, in the future if I need water for the cisterns I will risk getting the clothes soaked! . Now this weekend we are hosting an event at home that requires dry weather, but I heard on NOAA Weather Radio about a TW entering the Eastern Caribbean on Friday, arriving here on Saturday. I already alerted the guests that it might turn out to be a Tropical Wave party. We'll see how that turns out. As I watched the Wave to our east on satellite imagery and a trough coming up from the south (also mentioned on the Radio).; that looks like some rough weather ahead. However, Dave more or less assures us that there is nothing for the next few weeks because the dust is coming back. HUMBERTO could very well be the last name storm of this season, could it be..??? Just as well, the next one would be "Ingrid" and I don't think my sister in law would appreciate that at all. So, let's pray and watch and may God bless us all. |
- Mixed-up Emotions |
Good night, all! What a fantastic hurricane season we're having so far! No hurricanes! And even if HUMBERTO does become one, it's far away. So, today when I saw all the Saharan dust on my car, I felt a sense of gratitude. The dust has played an important role in stifling potential disturbances up to now. Very unusual. At 3:30 p.m. I took a photo of the shroud of dust, two other photos taken in our garden show that a "thing of beauty is a joy forever", regardless of the dust. Let's hope and pray that the next big waves in Africa heading towards the Atlantic will also be disrupted. May God bless us all. Isabel Attachment:

- Amazing Weather |
Hello Caribbean friends and beyond! I think all of us in the USVI and PR can say we got at least 10 inches of rain, some areas less than others. GABRIELLE finally said goodbye today. The sun was shining most of the day. The last heavy downpour was yesterday. The photo with the church spire shows the gathering clouds which ultimately broke into whiteout rain. I made it home before that. Later we were invited to our visiting friends from Georgia for dinner at Coakley Bay in East End from where I took the next two photos of total calm. What a contrast from a.m. to p.m.! Amazing weather! Praise the Lord! Blessings! Isabel Attachment:

- "STORM IMPACT"__see St.Croix Avis headlines |
Good night, All! A second stormy night last night this time from the remnants of GABRIELLE . It was not as chaotic as the night before, nevertheless, it was quite spectacular! The day was fairly quiet with just a few sprinkles and a brief light shower in the afternoon. We are grateful for the much needed rain. What next? Certainly does not look like a hurricane will develop before Sept. 11th, that would be a record! Not so fast! The TW coming off the coast of Africa does stand a good chance of becoming a hurricane and then a"fish storm". We still have over 69% of hurricane season to go. Let's stay prepared and may God bless us all. Isabel Attachment:

Good Morning! The storm acquired its name at 11 p,m, last night and the night has been stormy, very stormy. We lost electricity for over three hours. The storm was only moving at 2mph, so we can expect this type of weather for some time. In PR, schools are closed. We have yet to find out if our schools are open. With all the flooding out there it could be a problem. I shall update later. Blessings! Isabel |

- Very Wet Weather |
Good Morning, All! We are under a Flash Flood Watch until Friday as a slow moving system makes its way through our area. So far the rain has been intermittent with the ever faithful sun trying to cut through the clouds. The rain is forecast to get heavy with the hours and tomorrow is expected to be the heaviest. We were truly blessed that this weather did not arrive sooner; the garden party which was held on Friday, Sunday, and Monday, for our 50th, turned out quite beautiful. Our very good friends on the South Shore had everyone celebrate on Saturday at their "picturesque" house on the ocean front (rents for $4000. a wk). We are very grateful for prayers answered throughout those days when dry, sunny weather was of utmost importance. Now we can enjoy the rain! May God bless us all, now and always. |

- A Wonderful Celebration |
Thanks to the fair weather we've been having our relatives and friends from the mainland U.S. could not have been more blessed. Truly this has been a remarkable Hurricane Season. The climate has been rather wild all over the planet, yet here we have had a very stable weather pattern. Eventually it can change. There is a tropical wave to the East of the Lesser Antilles which is predicted to affect the islands Sunday and Monday. That will dampen some of our festivities if it comes this way. I hope that will not be the case. My special thanks go out to those who sent Golden Wedding Anniversary.greetings. May God bless you and us all. Isabel |
- A TW With Potential |
I've been reading Dr, Masters' blog again. It seems that dry air in the Atlantic will prevent this one from developing, and an eastward system could make it recurve away from the Northern Lesser Antilles; if that does not happen the islands could be impacted with gusty winds and heavy rain as early as this Sunday. Just on time for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The NHC gives it a 30% chance of developing by this Sunday |
- A Lovely August Day |
Here we are, the last week of the month of August. The experts are sure that the MJO is in place and we can soon begin to see activity akin to 1989. That was HUGO's year! A two week period of intense challenges is before us. Get all the details from Dr. Masters blog. All we can do is pray and hope it's not going to be a bad season for us. We definitely have to check our hurricane supplies and make sure we are ready. Late this afternoon we took our NY visitors to our favorite beach nearby and they were impressed with everything. Before we left we were treated to this almost mystical scene in today's photo. Let us enjoy this calm while we have it. May God bless us all. Isabel Sent from my iPod |

Good Morning, All! We've received some sprinkling this morning. There is a TW passing to our south and tomorrow there will be another one closer to home.
