This morning I woke up with questionmarks floating around my head. For a moment I thought I was back in the mountains of Western North Carolina (in the area where the movies Nell, The Last of the Mohicans, and Hannibal was lensed) where I used to live for seven years. The reason for this confusement was the fact that I woke up to a very very ve ry chilly room temperature. Since I dislike sleeping in the airconditioning I always have the windows open. Also this allows me to wake up to the chirping of the birds in the morning. Even though mornings are by default cooler than when the sun comes out, this morning is for Curacao standards no normal cool morning....it is extremely chilly!!! The temperature was 72.6 °F / 22.5 °C at 6:00 am. Currently the temperature has risen a wee bit but I am now still wearing my wool winter jacket (stop laughing Rinkies) while sipping my second batch of hot coffee. The reason for this extreme weather is a wave of cold air that floated very slowly off the mountains of Venezuela towards the ABC islands ( see image above) with a lot of shower activity. Luckily no thunderstorms, but alllot of light rain that started around 4 am and is still pouring from the skies. This is expected according to the computer models to last until noon, and afterwards 40 to 60 percent chance of scattered light rain showers all over the island of Curacao for the remainder of the day and night on August 26th, 2007...

Everybody's happy in Curacao...we finally got some rain today when this tiny blobbette (see image above) glided off the mountains along the Venezuelan northern coastline towards Curacao. Bonaire will get its sha re too, while Aruba keeps roasting under the sun and high humidity. More blobbettes are expected to arrive for the remainder of the day until noon on Sunday so place get your rainbarrels and buckets ready to collect allot more of the wet stuff. So far I have collected two buckets within 2 minutes (see image above).

After you thought we'd get a break after Dean...another air mass, coming off the coast of Africa, appears to be rotating counterclockwise, see image below. However the NOGAPS computer model does not support anything forming anytime soon...lots of upper level wind sheer interference. But then again I also thought that the last one would not amount to anything and it became Dean... ;-(

Secondly, a NOGAPS computer model does show some spinning action southwest of the Mexican mainland where Dean is currently located. No, I am not sure it is definately not Dean, but a whole new system developing approx 6 days from now...se e image below...but then again even though I am not part of the pacific cyclone naming committee...I still name it Diana...(Dean's sista)

The temperature was an unbearable 94 degrees today, so a lot of people went to the beaches to take a dip in our cool seawater. But to the dismay of many most beaches were closed due to hi gh and strong waves as result of Hurricane passing us by. The first image above was taken at 5pm at the northern shore of Curacao at Playa Canoa where surfers and bodyboarders could catch 14 ft swells at 5pm. Which a lot less than the 20 ft swells and bigger that were observed at Playa Canoa at 7 am in the morning.

Right now thunder and lightning is igniting all over Curacao as one of the outer tentacles of Hurricane Dean is sucking in all the moisture from Venezuela. With Curacao in its path the moisture is spiraling towards the North towards Dean. Our normal east wind has died almost completely and all day we experience some wind coming from all directions, and never from one fixed point.

At this point no rain yet...but Annie reported heavy showers in Bonaire...so we hope to get some too....

Ohhhh my God!!! Dean has an eye. Oh my God...I sincerely hope this storm is NOT gonna strengthen to a cat 4, but weakens to a cat1 before it reaches my friends in Jamaica.....my prayers be with you my bros and sistas!!!!!!!

In Curacao, the wind is extremely low, but even though the eye passes us by hundreds of miles we are affected by storm surge...which means great surfing at Canoa with 14ft+ waves and all over along the northern shores, and 6 to 9 ft waves along the southern shores. The local fishermen ought to keep in mind that if Dean takes a southern dip towards us, we may feel the wind after all. With Hurricane Mitch I learned to never trust the computer models because Mitch ravaged my friends in the island of Roatan (Honduras) like no other storm ever did: it went northwest then dipped south, drifted towards east and went northeast to hit Roatan Full on with its eyewall....

Weather past, current and future conditions

A little history lesson we can learn from in the ABC islands:

in 1978 tropical depression Cora (see image below) was initially forecasted to go towards Jamaica, but then veered SW down towards the ABC islands. Luckily for us it had dissipated from Category 1 Hurricane to a tropical depression. We had lots of rain but no material damage and no loss of life. Currently as Tropical storm Dean is approaching everybody in Curacao who experienced Emily and Ivan are saying:"..Dean will pass, so we are not doing anything special to get ready..." As was the case with Emily and Ivan, both storms were heading straight for the ABC islands and at the very last moment turned NW direction and the hurricane force winds passed us by: loss of life zero, and material damage was limited to a fisherman's wooden boat mooring was damaged due to the waves of the storm surge of 3 feet....so nothing particular to note.

So Curacao.... quit procrastinating and do the following:

Read the hurricane preparation guidelines in the National Telephone Book of Curacao of 2006, 2007, and 2008. Or email me and I will send you the digital versions of these pages (in Dutch, Papiamentu and English) that are originally printed in the phonebook of UTS.

Hmmm...wunderground posted a few computer models of a low pressure air mass called "Invest 90-L" that exited the West African coast and entered the Atlantic... As long as this air mass stays away from the hot waters south of Trinidad, the ABC islands will be ok... but the margin of error is very great at this time, so let's see what has developed 3 days from now...just in case if you haven't done it yet because you are too busy "de kat uit de boom te kijken en een afwachtende houding hebt"... now is the time to g o shopping to make sure that you have enough supplies in the house to last you and yours a while... However, ...the NOGAPS computer model of FNMOC indicates no development... so discontinue tracking that cat and get goin'.... In any case...wax the surfboards! Cya at Canoa!

ps: the length of day on Sunday August 12 will be 34 seconds shorter than Saturday August 11...so reset your alarmclock Annie & Amy... ;-P

The rather big wave that was heading straight for the ABC islands seems to have dissipated. The barometer shows that the pressure has risen a wee bit, but not enough, so that we may still experience some scattered showers all over the northern part of Curacao. Take out the dusty umbrella and get ready for so long awaited rain on Sunday!!! The computer models still indicate that heavy rainshowers will arrive in the early morning on Sunday and afterwards isolated showers here and there all over the island all day on Sunday. The wind died a bit last night but picked up strength again this morning and is still climbing, so boaters beware of very strong windgusts in open sea and along the shores of Santa Barbara, Jan Thiel, Caracasbaai, and Bandabao.

Boy, today sure was an interesting day. Yesterday it was forecasted that the blob, as Gert called it, was going to pass way off teh northern coastal area of the ABC silands. Then this morning it appeared to come bearing down on Curacao. A few moments later Bonaire got crazy wind and a nice rainshower.

So I called my dad at his farm to open the "sails" to "harvest" the rainwater. Just as the blob's outer rim came within 6 miles...the whole blob's lower left quadrant just dissipated into nothing.

Poof...there went our hope for rain...oh well...the season is still young. The forecast calls for isolated rainshowers in the am on Friday Aug 3rd. from a small chaser right behind the tail of the blob...so once more we'll wait and see...

It did feel kinda uneasy today not to have had access most of the day to a pc, and having only access to analog weather monitoring instruments...but all went ok and all is clear for the time being as the blob looks like to have dissipated altogether.

Godspeed to all of ye,

Marcus

The past 44.5 hours Curacao had cloudless blue skies and a cool breeze all day long. Tomorrow there is no rain in the forecast. So far the computer models show 99L passing the ABC islands a long ways offshore due north tomorrow and on Friday we may experience some rain from the tail of 99L.

Elsewhere in the world it looks like a second extra tropical system will develop 3 days from now due east off shore of Cape Hattaras North Carolina. This system will be heading NE away from any shore and will be chasing Chantal.
Yeppers, August started with a bang...so far all is  at the ABC islands.

When I saw the full moon rising above the horizon I quickly grabbed my biggest telephoto lens, a few triangular "pillows", and starting shooting the moon at the best resolution possible. The above photo is the result of clear skies over Curacao. What a day is was today. None of the heavy rain of long durat ion that Bonaire had. The wind dropped to almost zero in the morning and then it peaked to 32.2 mph / 51.9 km/h at noon. An hour later the wind dropped again to 11.5 mph / 18.5 km/h. From then on the windspeed has started to climb again and is currently 18.4 mph / 29.6 km/h with strong windgusts up to 31.1 mph / 50.0 km/h. I'm heading out to Canoa to see if anyone is riding the 8ft+ waves out there right now while illuminates by the full moon...

Annie of Bonaire has reported being drenched by rain for an hour+ and some intra cloud lightning (no groundstrikes)...so Curacao is waiting for its share...and we are still waiting. An hour earlier I wrote that I saw distant lightning and heard distant thunder. The weather system that drenched Bonaire is now over Curacao and we only got chilly and gusty wind, but no rain and no lightning. It appears on the sat image that when the system went over Curacao it dissipated... This is possibly due to big terrain differences between relatively flat Bonaire and Curacao having allot of hills...??

Currently the wind, pressure and temperature has dropped significantly compared to this morning, so let's see what the weather will be like in the tail of this system because so far we do not have the same experience as Bonaire at all.

This morning one patch of bad weather passed Curacao due north and we had some light rain in its tail. Now a second batch of bad weather is over the eastern tip of Curacao, and from the location where I am at the southern coastline (see arrow in the sat image below) I can see this bad weather system approaching with dark clouds and lightning. Currently the sea has calmed a bit because this morning we had high waves. The wind is picking up though with strong gusts and a chilly feel to it...so people on the water beware because this system may produce another strong wall of h igh winds as hot air over the islands of Curacao and Aruba clashes into the cold air in front of this weather system. The severest bad weather is due south of Bonaire right now and a third batch of bad weather is due east of Bonaire.

Annie of Bonaire has reported being drenched by rain for an hour+ and some intra cloud lightning (no groundstrikes)...so Curacao is waiting for its share...

The NOGAPS computer model data of FNMOC (US Navy Fleet Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Monterey, CA) shows 2 spinning wave systems in the Atlantic 36 hours from noon today. Five days later from noon today the westernmost one could be in or near the Caribbean if it survives the SAL and the wind shear. So far it is appears that the chances are small for these waves to develop into a TD. But mid August is the time of year all Caribbean eyes are on the Atlantic Sat Images and all Caribbean fingers are plugging data into weather computer models or analyzing the one's o f third parties. Advanced preparation saves lives. I'd rather be on the lookout and safe than sorry...

Curacao woke up this morning to a heavy downpour even though the 1km weather sat images showed nothing in particular in the skies over our tiny island.... Maybe Curacao needs a 0.5 Km sat image generator ;-P Right now blue sunny skies in some spots and near the northern coastline darkgrey clouds. There's 30% chance for isolated showers varying from light to heavy in the next 24 hours. The showers in any spot on the island are not expected to last more than 20 minutes... so sunny skies afterwards... but with humidity of around 80% and strong winds to prevent that humid, s tickyness feeling in the air after a rainshower. In windsheltered areas inland the stickyness will prevail though...so come to the beach at the souther coastline or come surfing and/or bodyboarding at Canoa!!!

To the west of the ABC islands and to the north of Colombia and Western Venezuela there is a low pressure area of 1006 hPa
. The US Navy computer models for wind show that in the next 48 hours the ABC islands can experience strong wind along the coastlines.

This means surf's up at Playa Canoa with 8ft+ swells around 4-7pm this afternoon!!!

On Wednesday July 25th there were medium to heavy rainshow ers in isolated spots in Curacao between 4pm and 8pm. Currently the same situation all over the island: some spots at the northern region are being soaked with darkgrey skies whereas the other spots at the southern region remain dry with sunny blue skies. An itty bitty patch of rain is heading our way from the south east (see sat image below). This may produce some light rain. In the same image you'll see the remnants of the itty bitty bad weather that caused the heavy rain at 6 am this morning in isolated spots in Curacao which is moving away from Curacao and is approaching the northern regions of Aruba.

A makuaku told me yesterday we'd get rain and I saw it here and there...but not everywhere! Today on Tuesday July 24th there were heavy rainshowers in isolated spots in Curacao. It is funny to see heavy rain coming down 30 yards from where you are standing and yet you are dry while everything 30 yards west of you is being soaked. At the hospital in Otrobanda for example there was a heavy downpour for a half hour whereas in the touristy shopping area of Punda it was sunny skies and not a single drop. Then an hour and a half later Punda received a light percipa tion which covered Otrabanda as well. At the Ocean resort we only got a few big drops but it the rain passed within a 60 seconds and then the big downpour was observed off the coast in open sea. Currently the same situation all over the island: some spots are being soaked whereas the other spots are dusty dry. Whereas there was thunder and lightning and crazy wind in Bonaire....Curacao did not experience any of it at all...up to this hour.

Marcus was wondering below why Emily and Ivan were missing from Curacao's hurricane tracks page ( http://stormcarib.com/climatology/TNCC_all_isl.htm ). That is because they didn't get closer then 60 nautical miles from the island (see below). That is the threshold I used to determine if storms were included in the analysis. This doesn't mean that the effects of these storms weren't felt on the island. It would have been better to use the windfield for the climatology, but unfortunately that data is not available.

Below the 'closest point of approach' data for the two storms. I plugged in the track data from http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/index.html in the the 'how close can it get'-tool ( http://stormcarib.com/closest.htm ). Also attached an image of the tracks.

Ivan:
Results for Curacao (12.2N, 68.97W):
The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is located near 13.5N, 68.6W or about 89.9 miles (144.8 km) from your location.

Emily:
Results for Curacao (12.2N, 68.97W):
The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is located near 13.8N, 68.6W or about 110.5 miles (177.9 km) from your location.

Today on Monday July 23rd in the early morning at approx 3 am I woke up when the twins announced it was time for their first bottle of "Nutrilon 2" for the day. You may not believe it but it was really chilly in the morning at 24 degrees Celsius and no wind at all. No we are not used to this chilly weather in Curacao!!  In Holland the young sport athletes of Curacao of ages 11 thru 17 are currently competing in 16 degrees celsius in the daytime during the "Dutch Kingdom Games". read more here: http://www.amigoe.com/artman/publish/artikel_32587.php okay so you don't understand Dutch... no problem.. just copy and paste the text here http://dictionary.reference.com/translate/ and translate from dutch to usa english or uk english (is there a difference?)

As Gert already indicated...next week is when everybody should start keeping an eye out for anything at 4 to 6 hour intervals, and at shorter intervals when someone spots something noteworthy...

So to get ready I examined the historical tracks of storms over the years. Looking back into history I noticed that Emily and Ivan are missing on this historical storm track: http://stormcarib.com/climatology/TNCC_all_isl.htm  Gert, is it worth updating?

Just out of curiosity I checked out Saba, and oh my....
http://stormcarib.com/climatology/TNCS_all_isl.htm
Can someone from Saba can give me tips on building an underground stormshelter?

Ok, seriously....

Today a big tropical wave headed in the direction of the ABC islands. I don't know about Aruba or Bonaire, but Curacao had no bad weather or rain. See the sat image below to see how menacing is looked at 2015 hrs UTC (4 pm local time).

At 4:15 pm Curacao did see a very nice tall cloud formation along the northern part of the island whereas at the southern seashore it was pleasantly sunny. Please click on the small photo below to open a panoramic photo in a new window, because Gert will kill me if I placed its original size inside this report page window...the image's height is 468, but the width is about 3500 pixels....

At the leftest part of the image you are looking south and at the rightest part you are looking west.

   < BR>

All the heavy rain and bad weather is possibly about a 1000 KM north at another Dutch island of the Netherlands Antilles. The people of Saba have been praying for rain...and looks like they got their wish fullfilled.

You can see in the panoramic picture that the heavy clouds were passing Curacao due north. But right now at 7:45 pm (2345 hrs UTC) the entire island is covered whereas at 7 pm (2300 hrs UTC) the island's sky lit up with rich shades of the colors scarlet and blue. This colorful sunset happens when there is rain in the air. So we ought to get some tonight from late tonight around midinight until the early morning of Friday at approx 2am. I'm happy when it rains at night, so that I don't have to stand in it at work in the daytime.

The report of Thursday July 19th, 8pm (2400 hrs UTC) goes on...so scroll down to read more.....

Once more, the pressure is dropping so we may see some rain when the bottom tail end of this tropical wave arrives in Curacao late tonight around midinight until the early morning of Friday at approx 2am. Se sat image below...

I'm happy when it rains at night, so that I don' t have to stand in it at work in the daytime. I'm now gonna check in via skype and chat with the guys and gals of Saba StMaarten and Statia to find out what is going on over there as they are in the center of it all.

- currently not much in the air...
  • From: marcus at curacaowildlife.com
  • Date: 15 Jul 2007 17:52:55 -0000

Current conditions in Curacao mostly overcast skies, wind 13 Mph (21 Km/h), waves 3 to 6 feet along the southern coastline and flat inshore, zero precipitation.

According to the NASA sat images (see below) there is a wave approaching the ABC islands from the Venezuelan mainland and is heading North West. We can't see any evidence of the fact that is coming since our weather hasn't changed much over the past 6 hours other than that the temperature has increased from 29 Celsius to 31 Celsius. Currently it is a rather weak wave, but that may change when it is over water instead of land...so we need to watch it.

The recreational boats and tourist excursion ships on the open water at Klein Curacao and at Klein Bonaire in particular should expect some high waves and strong gusty winds as the front of this wave approaches from the South East. A warning has been issued via cellular phones to Klein Curacao.

The system in the Atlan tic is now engulfed by the SAL (Sahara air layer) and that seemed to have a negative effect on its development (whew!). But by Tuesday we'll see a new system with a counter-clockwise rotation coming off the coast of Africa heading west. The computer models of the military forecast that it will continue its westerly path well into Thursday and then dissipate..long before reaching the ABC islands...so let's keep an eye on it just in case...

Weather current conditions and outlook for Willemstad, Curacao, the Dutch Caribbean.

Current conditions in Curacao: sunny skies and the gusty wind has increased to a steady cool breeze of approx 14 Mph (23 Km/h).

The itty bitty tiny wave that was heading off the Venezuelan coastline this morning towards Bonaire is still heading North East away from Bonaire. The western tail may still reach Bonaire for a little wind action, but chances of rain are slim.

A lot further east in the Atlantic at coordinates:
Latitude= 6.67° N & Longitude= 31.83° W, this system is now starting a counter-clockwise spin as the image below shows which I obtained from an unclassified military webpage at https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil

This syste m is still approx 4200 Km away from Curacao...so allot can still happen, especially since the vertical windshear in the NW quadrant of this system could hinder its development. All weather computer models currently predict that nothing will develop, but... it is too early to rely on the models... so let's keep watching it...better safe than sorry...

A lot further east in the Atlantic at coordinates:

- itty bitty wave approaching....
  • From: marcus at curacaowildlife.com
  • Date: 14 Jul 2007 15:00:00 -0000

Weather current conditions and outlook for Willemstad, Curacao, the Dutch Caribbean.

The Saharan Air Layer (SAL) and the surface temperatures in the area of the ABC islands are the cause of no rain and partially clouded skies in the AM and sunny skies in the afternoon today. See images below. The Saharan Air Layer (in red below) is a very dry air-mass coming from the African continent. Because it is so dry it can inhibit the formation and/or intensification of tropical storms. The ABC islands are in the red zone. The sea surface temperature of the ABC islands is approx 26 degrees celsius, so come one and let's jump in it to cool off..!!

Nevertheless, in Curacao strong wind gusts of up to 60Mph (96 Km/h) can be experienced at the coastlines so boaters, sailers, and windsurfers alike need to take care. Inland the windgusts are up to 45 Mph (72 Km/h).

A small wave is approaching Bonaire from the Venezuelan coastline, so Annie...please keep an eye on this one, especially since you have a bunch of windsurfing novices on the water today. I'll post an update asap in regards to this itty bitty tiny wave if needed... ;-)

Weather current conditions and outlook for Curacao

As many a dutch tourist on vacation in Curacao will tell you, it rains all the time in Holland. But it doesn't rain allot in Curacao, and everytime it does rain, it is something to celebrate. This morning was such an happy occasion as well. Rain came down briefly but it was a good 10 to 15 minute shower in some spots. The pictures below are a approx an hour old. I had gone to the store in between of taking the pictures and writing this report to get a can of Sello Rojo from coffee from the Vreugdenhill store. Gotta have my freshbrewed coffee! Currently all the clouds have gone to Aruba, and it is expected to stay sunny until about 1pm when a few clouds with water vapor will arrive for a possible late afternoon rainshower in the western half of Curacao, and slim or no chance of rain the remaining part of Curacao. As this past week has been really freaky I will post an update if something wei rd is in the air, otherwise I am taking it easy on my day off at Jan Thiel beach with my 8 month old twin boys aka double trouble.

- in the news: July 10 weather flipped a boat in Aruba
  • From: help at curacaowildlife.com
  • Date: 12 Jul 2007 16:12:48 -0000
An update about the weather in Aruba on July 10. which caused a popular snorkeling boat to capsize, according to a spokeswoman at the Aruba Tourism Authority. All 38 passengers and 4 crewmembers were rescued with no reported injuries. It is unknown at this point whether any of the tourists aboard were cruise passengers; Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas was the only ship in port. At approximately 12:30 p.m. on july 10 an unexpected gust of wind tipped one of Jolly Pirates' (www.jolly-pirates.com)two tour boats. "It was very strong, just a few seconds," says Margaret Wever, an Associated Press writer and editor for Aruba newspaper The News. "The wind gust reached a maximum of 46 knots according to the Department of Meteorological Services. It was just unfortunate the boat was in full sail, and if you don't expect something like that, [an accident] can happen." "There was no warning that bad weather was on the horizon. It wasn't even a shower, it was a drizzle," Wever says -- "and it departed as quickly as it arrived." Jolly Pirates is going to attempt to salvage the boat, according to Wever; it will be floated on air pillows and taken to an area where repairs can be assessed. In the meantime, the company's second boat is still in operation. If they had only been watching the reports posted by stormcarib correspondents Marcus de Maayer of Curacao and Ann Phelan of Bonaire which were posted on www.stormcarib.com that day, they would have been warned... greets, Wendy Martina

The tiny wave has just arrived to Curacao and currently we experience thunder and so far one lightning strike touched ground a few miles somewhere due north of my location in villapark Girouette. Strong wind approx 40 Mph (64 Km/h) with gusts up to 60 Mph (99 Km/h). Heavy rain is some spots. See also pictures below. Another update will be posted in approx 2 1/2 hours

- small tiny wave heading this way very fast

According to archive of the NASA sat images a very tiny wave developed off the coast of Venezuela approx. 3 1/2 hours ago and is now moving very fast in a westerly direction parallel to the Venezuelan mountain ridge on its southern coastline towards the ABC islands. Because this system is moving so fast and is so small in size, the total amount of possible rain showers will last approx 10 to 20 minutes. There is a chance that this system will past due north of Aruba so that they will escape the wind that knocked over a boat last Tuesday as reported in the www.amigoe.com newspaper on Wednesday. After this system passes we'll experience clear sunny skies again...

- sunny skies are back again

The much anticipated rain shower from the wave (see NASA sat image above)that rushed off the Venezuelan mainland towards the ABC islands did not occur at all. The wave brought some strong windgusts that did not cause any damage and caused moderate high waves all around the islands also without causing any damage. In Curacao we only had a few seconds of light drizzle here and there, and the heavy rainshowers were observed to be offshore between island Curacao and the Venezuelan mainland. Today the forecast has changed too, isntead of 90% rain, we have 80% sunny skies all over again as the pictures below show. Some computer models call for rain on Thursday July 12, but from our experience in Curacao over the past weeks, we are hopefull, but we won't believe it until we see it...

"Be careful what you wish for..." is what my colleague Barry Brown always tells me. And it sure does look like Curacao got it's wish for rain as the sat image of NASA shows below and the photos that were taken at Curacao Ocean Resort. The first photo is looking North-East, and the second is looking South East. Very strong swirling wind with wind gusts that can be felt at the southern coastline near Ocean resort of up to 85 Km/hr (53.125 Mph)

Curacao is still waiting for a good rain shower. Hopefully one of the 3 systems in the NASA sat image above will provide some well needed rain on coming Thursday as the forecast for tomorrow is 90% chance of precipitation. Currently Curacao has sunny skies this morning with a tiny patch of clouds here and there as pictures below show taken from the balcony of my house in villapark Girouette, facing North and North-East.

Hello all,

At approximately 3am last night Curacao finally got soaked by a 1/2 hour rain shower. A wee bit more than Bonaire got according to correspondent Ann Phelan. Currently there is bad weather developing to the east and to the west of the ABC islands Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, but at the ABC islands there is nothing much ado. The sea is relatively flat and quiet. Some clouds here and there in the sky. So it will be interesting to see how the systems to the left and right will develop as they are both heading towards the ABC islands and will converge due north...??!?

all the best to all,

Historically we have not seen something like disturbance 96L develop into a storm this early in the season. But then again how long have we been recording storms? Excactly!! So this one is a good one to monitor closely just in case...better safe than sorry...

Thank you for your time.

- windy in Curacao

Current weather in Curacao.

Sunny, high seas (see photo of a fisherman's boat below), and winds of 50 to 60 KM/hr. Windgusts up to 70 Km/Hr measured at the southern coastline. We are keeping an eye on that wave off the coast of Nicaragua heading NNW...let's hope it does not organize and dissipate like the last one in this area a few weeks ago.

Hello to all my friends in the Caribbean,

historically storms that become hurricanes in June were born in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Western Caribbean. Right now there is something developing onland and at the shores of Northern Belize heading North East. Let's hope not...but it is good to keep an eye on this system because it looks a bit like the sister of Lenny...remember that weird storm??

Greets from sunny Curacao,

Marcus

Hello everyone out there in the Caribbean and the mainland of the Americas. Down here in Curacao things have been quiet for months. I sincerely hope things will remain quiet for the upcoming hurricane season for all of us. Making predictions usually gets my rear end burned, but my guess is that a storm named Ingrid may come very close to Curacao this season. And as susual it will probably vear off to the north at the last moment as previous years.

Godspeed to all of ya and yours.
