According to the real time weather info courtesy of NOAA at this web site: http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/TAPA.html The temperature at 5AM and 6AM was 68F (20C)!!! It took a while for me to crawl out of the blanket and the cars were covered in dew! Today is a beautiful day, very blue skies and brilliant white cumulus clouds drifting across the view from my desk. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |
- Cool but beautiful! |
|
The last few days have been magnificent. Very clear blue skies, a few scattered puffy white clouds. It has also been cool in the mornings and evenings. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag/scholla |

- Even more RAIN!!! |
|
The sky is very grey and overcast!!! It is raining in the SE section of the island so for some it will be fun getting to work. Christmas shoppers may have to don their coats and put up those umbrellas if they plan to shop today. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag/scholla |
- More RAIN !!! |
|
Awoke this morning to find the ground saturated. On my way to work, the sky was completely overcast and there was a constant drizzle. However, it seems to be clearing up as there are larger patches of blue but I think we may be due for some more rain later. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag/scholla |

This morning was overcast, but the weather has deteriorated significantly. Currently, it is POURING down in the Lower Fort road area. The sky is completely overcast, no gaps at all. We need the rain but this is not weather for sailing or sunseekers :-( as one DJ put it, this is "together weather". Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |

- SUPERCELL !!! |
|
Well where do I start? At around 6:38, the sky opened up and the wind started howling and it got stronger and stronger. That initial point, the wind had to have been gusting around 20-30 knots. 5 minutes later we lost power in the Lower Fort Road area. The storm further intensified and the rain got really heavy. Looking at my neighbour's house who had his generator and lights on, I could see the rain sheets coming down and the wind whipping about the trees. At that point around 19:45, it was gusting close to 40-45 at times. It then settled down for the most part into constant rain with occasional gusts up to aroung 23:40 it went completely quiet and I nodded off to bed. I awoke this morning with the power still off. Some small trees are down and there are leaves everywhere. On the way to work, there were numerous small trees bent over but nothing really big. There are reports of utility poles and larger trees down but I did not witness that on my route. Any reports from St.Kitts, the larger supercell that the met office kept talking about was headed that way? Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |

This monring there were some rather heavy shower activity but this did not last past 7:30AM. The sun is shining brightly and it is quite warm but the wind is 12-15 knots with occasional higher gusts. Towards the south, there are some grey clouds but no sign of rain. All else is quiet. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |

Well, the Hurricane Season 2001 is gone with 15 n.storm(3 major).Antigua is spared once more.Thank God! But Olga is still working overtime, refusing the leave.NOT a threat to anyone though. We got some high seas<make me sick to think of the sea trip the other day>.As i am writing now,it is raining heavily with wind gust to 30mph,probably a band associate with Olga.Otherwise,calm.

|
We had some beautiful showers early this morning. The sky is still very overcast but there are significant patches of blue peeking through. Looking southeast, there are large grey patches on the horizon so we may get some more rain... The beaches on the northwestern end (Dickenson Bay, Runaway Bay, Fort James) had some big surf yesterday morning/afternoo. Body surfers were enjoying the waves at Lashings. Alan B. Scholl |

In contrast to yesterday's weather, I awoke thi smorning to find the skies completely overcast. Winds are coming our of the NNE around 10 knots although there were some relatively strong gusts this morning. A few minor sprinkling buit no real rain yet. Alan B. Scholl scholla AT candw.ag |
- Some rain! |
|
Yesterday there was some shower activity for most of the day. It broke around 3PM which allowed to go cycling without being soaked. Last night was very cool. This morning,I awoke to see dew blanketing the grass. Today, we are back to bright sun, blue skies. The tourists MUST be happy! Alan B. Scholl Email: scholla AT candw.ag |
- Beautiful day!!! |
|
Although still a bit hazy, the sky is blue and the white puffy cumulus clouds are slowly drifting across my office window... This is a perfect day for the beach! Unfair!!! Showers and rain on the weekend, beautiful sunny days on Tuesday :-[ The Atlantic basin hasn't given up yet. TD#15 has squeezed into the Gulf and we have LORENZO crawling up the central Atlantic. Dr.Gray may just be correct once more! Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |

I was awoken this morniing to some very heavy showers. Currently, it is very overcast and rainig in the SE side of the island. The sky is very gray -> white. It looks like a lot of rain today.... Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |

- Brighter day! |
|
The sky is breaking and the there are larger patches of blue sky. It rained again yesterday evening for a brief period. The cumulus clouds are slowly drifting across the sky and I suspect that by this afternoon, we will be experiencing some very bright sunny weather. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |
- More rain!!! |
|
This morning we were greeted with more rain and overcast conditions. Just about an hour ago, there was a torrential downpour which lasted about 45 minutes. The sky is getting brighter and large patches of blue sky are appearing :-) The weekend might not have made the tourists too happy but the maps show that we are on the very edge of the system. I suspect that the day will clear up later and tomorrow will be brilliant. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |
- BAD WEATHER! |
|
This weather is just suitable for staying indoor (real fustrating).
Since 10a.m. yesterday or earlier, it started to rain. Right now, the sky is double layer overcast (imagine that), it rain so heavy an hour ago that visibility has been reduce from half a mile to 1/5 of a mile. And the wind is blowing at 30+ mph with heavy thunder and lightning.
Temperature is around 29'~C. This weather seem to last forever. Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com |
- Conditions! |
|
Over the last 24 hours, we have been experiencing lots of thunderstorm activity. During our Jolly Harbour Saturday yacht races, there numerous squalls with short burst of very gusty wind 25-30 knots wityh occasional cloud to cloud lightning (followed by thunder). Power is off at the moment and it has been raining most of the night and this morning. Based on the satellite maps, it will probably be like this for at least another day or so. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag |
- Worsening conditions |
|
The wind has picked up significantly. I am looking at the IR maps and there seems to be a breakaway cell from Jerry that is now approaching Antigua. The coconut trees are swaying quite a bit now (12:00PM local). Visibility has dropped to about 3 miles now as most of the southern hills are totally obscured. It is raining very heavy at an angle of about 50-55 degrees. Alan B. Scholl |
- Current conditions |
|
The skies are beginning to open up. There was just a very loud thunder clap a few minutes agao followed by heavy rain. Although earlier it was really blowing (15-20 knots), it seems to have calmed down as the treetops are barely swaying. From my vantage point (Clare Hall on the hill), it is completely overcast looking south but still bright. Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag/scholla |

- TROPICAL STorm JERRY |
|
Yes.. it has developed and the hurricane hunters left to pin point exactly where late this a.m (SUNDAY)... so by early evening we will know a lot more about it! IT IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE in a few days AND IS EXPECTED TO STAY SOUTH AND FOLLOW SIMILAR COURSE TO IRIS BUT WE HAVE TO WATCH IT CLOSELY. A north turn would bring it close to Antigua. LATER... |
- IRIS & JERRY ! |
|
Whoa! Two serious appearing storms in October. Not a whole lot happening up here in the Northern Leewrds. The sun is out and there are occasional light gusts. It is also quite warm. It seems as this year (so far), the Windwards and now the western Caribbean have been in the bullseye. After these two, I hope it all quiets down, I am not ready for another "backwards Lenny". Alan B. Scholl http://www.digitalphoto.ag/scholla |
- LATE SEASON ACTION!! |
|
Am sending this from MISSION CONTROL of Hurricane Hunters here in St. Croix .. they are flying IRIS now..which hopefully wont hit Jamaica or Caymans...as it seems.. but we will surely see JERRY develop in next few days...some models have it following course of IRIS...and some have it turning north..hurricane hunters will fly it in a day or 2 and tell us more......so Antigua keep alert...this may be another late season/October attention getter.. stay sober boys in the back room!!! |

- Strong gusts/heavy rain |
|
I was awoken very early this morning with the wind howling a bit and some very heavy rain beating down on the roof. In spite of the fact that Antigua seemed to be on the fringe of this system, we did get some strong gusts accompanied by lots of rain. Hope all is well with our Windward neighbours... Alan B. - A brighter day... |
|
A lot of the upper level clouds have parted and there are larger patches of blue sky. It is still hazy and overcast but mainly large swarms of cumulus clouds moving east to west. The surface maps (URL following) show three LOWS and according to the reports, the one closest to the Windwards has "possible signs of development". Hopefully, we should get some more needed rain. http://www.intellicast.com/Tropical/World/UnitedStates/AtlanticAnalysis/ Alan B. Scholl |
- Another grey day!!! |
|
Well, yet another grey day! It is completely overcast, a full eight oktas, horizon to horizon. The rain is needed so we can be thankful for that. It is also very cool which is a change from the recent heat spells we had last week. Alan B. Scholl |
- Current conditions |
|
It has been overcasty for the last two days. Last night was full moon but you could barely see the moon through the clouds. There was some heavy showeractivity in the south a few minutes ago but there seems to be some streaks of blue alternating between the cloud cover. ========================================================== Alan B. - TD SEVEN !!! |
|
YIKES!!! Well as was expected TD 7 has formed in the Atlantic! The track according to Weather Underground has it WNW just passing slightly NE of the Leewards. This track uis just a bit too close for comfort. I hope these waves don't produce a "March of Storms" as I found in this 1995 picture of LUIS and IRIS archived at Unisys Corp: http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1995H/LUIS/090118v.gif Here we go again... Alan B. Scholl |
- Three waves |
|
It seems our comments may have awoken the Atlantic. There are three waves drifting off Africa, the second one according to the surface map at Intellicast has an circular isobar line. Could this indicate potential development? The maps show some form of circulation and the Tropical Outlook from weather Underground favours early development on the first wave with mention of potential development from #2. We need to keep a keen eye on these waves. LOCALLY: Overcast (7 oktas), pacthes of dark clouds with breaks, some occasional shower activity in the south. This morning my car was coated in dew and it was a bit cooler than usual for tis time of the year? Alan B. Scholl |

Sunny, cool with a light breeze. It has been fairly calm. I took a quick trip to the beach yesterday (Sunday) and the Caribbean Sea was flat as glass. I guess this is the "calm b 4 the storm". The track has it north of us but we still have to watch her... Alan B. Scholl |

#6 BECAME Tropical STORM ERIN..and is
1335 miles east of us...(at 11 a.m. this morning... Already 50 mph winds and moving at 17 mph.. that
is just over THREE DAYS away if all remains as is..and
All is favorable for development... The forecast track puts it north of us... BUT SEE BELOW for some "private inside info" from the boys who know! Not a nice

- TS ERIN |
|
Just yesterday I read that this is only the 4th time in 50 years that a hurricane has not formed! Would we be lucky this year? Would Dr. Gray be wrong? Before even preparing breakfast, I logged on to find TS ERIN straing down our alley :-) The track from both: http://www.Intellicast.com/Tropical and http://www.nlmoc.navy.mil/home1.shtml show it turning northwest of the Leewards but this will certainly have to be monitored VERY closely. Current conditions are slightly overcast with some early morning showers. Alan B. Scholl |

We got half an inch of rain yesterday, but today, weather is rather blooming with only partly cloudy skys.
This year,we have enter a strange trend, disturbance dosen't develop until they have pass a certain longtitude such as >35W<.A tropical wave is approching this degree,so today it has a 30% chance of develop further,a 50% chance for remaining as it is with little change and a 20% chance of dissipating compared with the 20%,50%,30% yesterday. Good luck to all... Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com |

- Wave off Africa... |
|
The wave seems to have some circular motion. The Atlantic Ocean map in motion from http://www.weather.com indicates this. From http://wwwwunderground.com/tropical, this is quoted "While the system is currently poorly organized...conditions appear to be favorable for development ..." so we need to monitor this closely for the next few days. It is currently overcast with some shower activity in the eastern and southern areas of the island. There were some showers in the north earlier today. Alan B. Scholl |

We got rain a while ago.(Thats all I can say,not much happening.)
A look at the Atlantic is real boring,But a look at this>>>> SST will show that the Sea Surface Temperature is warming towards the north.<loading the animation may take a while>
A look at this>>>> WS will show the vertical wind shear(cyclone development also depend on this, high shear meant no development) has not improve much during the past 5 days.
Overall,at this rate, big shots(hurricane) might not develop until mid September or later. But I might be wrong, maybe,it might be earlier. In either case,I don't like the quietness of the Atlantic right now, maybe its gathering energy to spawn another activity period.
