Hi there, I am typing by candlelight under a beautiful star filled sky. The power is out here in PR. 1.5 million were without power starting yesterday at 2:30 when a power plant on main island caught on fire. So far a little over 200,000 lucky folks have had their power restored. It is so strange not to have power for this long during hurricane season and we did not have a storm. The up side is there is nothing to clean up! Also it is not too hot and muggy. So we are waiting for the power to return. In the mean time this is kinda fun to be unplugged, literally, for a while. So I am off to gaze at the milky way. There is no light pollution so it is simply spectacular. And if "Good Housekeeping" stops by my refrigerator and ceiling fans are spotless. K

It is a beautiful rainy morning here. Almost no wind just a steady rain since sunrise. So far so good. The garden is happy and the horses have water. Best of all the cistern is filling. Free water!!! Off to sip the coffee, watch the raindrops, and wait for a break in the rain to go weed the garden. More later if needed, K

We took advantage of the unusually calm winds today to snorkel Sun Bay. We still have a number of sail and fishing boats in Esperanza harbor, but they may move depending on the strength of the incoming winds. We welcome the rain - but hopefully in small doses.

Right now we are receiving buckets of rain. I was just in Isabel and there were twin rivers running down the street. Heading back to Esperanza shortly. I assume they are receiving the same amount of glorious rain. This should top off the cistern if not make it overflow! By the way does anybody know when the radar will be fixed? Soaked and happy, Kate

Good afternoon from Esperanza, Vieques. We have been experiencing the occasional rainfall lately, but for the most part it is the usual pattern of passing clouds and mild sea breezes. Now that Petronales has ended and our visitors have returned to the big island of Puerto Rico, we have settled into quiet season. As August approaches, we begin to look to the East and pay attention to the Southern Atlantic.
