At last it seems the worst of the trough is over and the rain has stopped, now to start drying everything out, I would say that was one of the worst sets of rain we have had in a long time, with landslides - I know there was a big one at Bouton and flooding - I had to wait for over an hour at cul de sac for the waters that were streaming across the road to abate so I could cross to get home on Monday. I think the worst thing for me is being in Castries when it rains as I found myself paddling through at least 4 inches of dirty water just to go to the market - bad decision by your truly.
Anyway lets hope it continues on this sunny vein I really dont think I could put up with more paddling!

Well my friends - it's been a wet, cold, dreary week so far.
Started Sunday night with heavy rains off and on but tapered off a bit through Monday afternoon - mainly lighter showers and drizzles.
Monday night gave us a spectacular lightning show for a few hours with some intermittent heavy showers.
Tuesday was dreary and cold - like I had to put on works cold! Showers day all fay long, wet and dreary. Interestingly enough, our news had little to report on our island and any damages, rivers overflowing, etc - but had a long segment in St Vincent - and
wow, I feel for my southern neighbors. They have been hammered. Lots of destruction, landslides, flooding. Our thoughts go out to them.
Today (Wednesday), another gray and dreary day. Showers off and on so far, not expecting anything else the rest of the day except more showers.
Hopefully this clears out by the weekend. These stationary systems bring much needed rain and cooker temps - but then tend to stick around longer than they are welcome and begin to cause damages....this one needs to move on!

Good afternoon!!
Well, it's been 36+ hours of rain here in the south! Praise the rain gods as we're filling out reservoirs and getting some solid soaking. Fortunately it hasn't been really heavy rains or such h, mostly just steady light to moderate rains, really soaking the
earth and filling those rivers and streams.
Gloomy for our visitors, I'm sure. For us locals, it's wondeful - gives us the promise of plenty of water supply for the dry season.. Fingers crossed. No signs of stopping tonight. Maybe by tomorrow we'll be drying out..
Unfortunately, this small lingering system is wreaking some havoc to our souther neighbors in St Vincent and the Grenadines... They've had heavier and longer rainfall than us, and are reporting some missing and some dead, washed out roads, and flooded homes.
Our thoughts go out to them..

Wow, woke up to cold temperatures and torrential rain which has continued on for over hours now, the wind is fairly strong and is finishing off my bananas ( those that Matthew did not get). They are laying almost horizontal! The thunder is intermittant and visibility down to the Bay is very limited. Not a day to be going out, certainly not without a full waterproof suit!

I got a call this afternoon from a friend asking what was happening in Soufriere. I didn't know because I was down in VFort at the time. Apparently sea swells had been flooding one street along the waterfront. The swells got worse tonight and sent me on meteofrance to find out there was a bulletin out for Martinique warning about Westerly swells. Unfortunately their forecast calls for the swells to amplify (worsen) overnight and at high tide tomorrow. The swells is expected to affect us until Friday night. (I will post pics tomorrow)
We are also expecting heavy rainfall from the approaching tropical wave. The rivers are heavily silted following the passage of Matthew as a Tropical Storm at the time. We hope for the best.
Our prayers go out to all those in Matthew's sights tonight. Be safe everyone and to those in the US, be prepared. |

I was shocked to see Matthew with a clear eye this evening and then get upgraded to a Cat 4. Just sat following Dr. Masters' blog on wunderground and then started following recon live - talk about Rapid Intensification with Cat 5 winds.
Matthew is a MONSTER as Hurricanes go and Jamaicans, Haitians and Cubans need to get ready!!!

1pm here in St Lucia and Matthew is all but gone...still grey and cloudy, but calm breezy winds here in the south and no rain for the last two hours....
Power has only been back for a few hours down here, and we're still trying to get a handle on the damages done to Fair Helen... Reports of roads impassable, some landslides, rivers overflowing, etc..... No reports of loss of life thank goodness! Most business
remain closed and schools are definitely closed. All clear was issued by the Met Office at 8am this morning.....
Now the cleanup begins!

Had a pretty good undisturbed night and got up this morning to much calmer
conditions but its still blustery with occasional squalls. The wind has not let
up as it has been pretty sustained being probably 20 mph with higher gusts but
after last night it feels calm! Some patches of rain as well...
Lots of branches broken and most of my banana trees are down… :-(
I will venture out shortly to see if I can get some photos and hopefully fly my
drone for some overhead video if the winds let up.

The storm hit us late yesterday afternoon with strengthening winds, to me they seemed stronger than Tomas which was a Cat 2, but I am told that the winds were 65mph which is strong enough believe me when you are in it. It went on for most of the evening with the wind seeming to calm down slightly around midnight, however it still continued.
This morning there is hardly any wind but torrential rain and its very dark, lots of debris everywhere with trees down and broken branches etc.
I have seen that there have been landslides, power poles down ( we lost power in the night), no water in the taps ( not unusual), and (open) boats that have sunk just through the volume of rain, in the Bay.
Fortunately there are no reported deaths. Businesses and Schools remain closed.
I will report later when I know more.

Well, 1:35am and still raining here in the south. We've had a few lightning flashes over the last two or so hours and some light thunder rumbles...
Power went out about 8pm down here, and it's not back up. I don't expect to see it again till morning at the earliest. I can see a glow looking east towards Laborie and Vieux Fort, not sure who has power that direction, but someone does - just not us over in
the Piaye/Choisel region.... No worries, lots of candles and torchlights.
The rain is still falling, although not as heavy at all. Very light winds right now too, which is great for the structures and trees - not so much for us trying to sleep!!
Have seen multiple reports of flooding in Laborie, Vieux Fort, Micoud, Dennery and points north through Bexon and Castries proper - hopefully it's not too bad and will go down over the night and we can start the day on better footing.
Will update in the morning.... Stay safe out there!

Currently raining heavily in Soufriere town with occasional very very strong wind gusts. About 8-9 river started overflowing its banks but rains somewhat ceased and the river went down just a bit. Thankfully it did not overflow enough to flood the street in front of the hospital. So far we've not lost power, water, electricity or internet service. Cell phone service has gone off and on a few times. One shelter opened up in town as nearby residents sought refuge from the rising river and another opened up in Fond St Jacques. Reports have been coming over the air (TV and radio stations) of flooding in mainly the eastern and southern parts of the island.

| The wind has gone down considerably as has the rain. This is is reflected in the amount of rain being shown in the Martinique radar which I have been following here:
Apparently the forward speed of the storm has slowed to 15 mph and this is making the bulk of the storm take a longer time to pass over us. As it is we seem to be right in the middle of the heaviest region of convection.
What is strange is that we have had no lightning at all!
There are reports of heavy flooding in Bexon which is in the Cul de sac valley, this is not unexpected. This means the main Vieux Fort highway is impassable for the time being.

Well, the winds have picked up significantly here in the south... Some constant strong winds with frequent stringers gusts...have heard some branches go down in next door empty lot, etc.
Rainfall has picked way up too. It was mostly light and steady all day, until about 5/5:30, then it shifted to heavy and hasn't let up since. Towel brigade is on full patrol around doors and windows all around the house.
So far, still have electricity and Internet here where we are, but we're definitely having surges periodically... We've read reports of some power outages around the island - I figure it's just a matter of time for us!!
Will keep you updated as I can!

- 7:30 update of Tropical Storm "Mathew"

We have had a pretty wild evening so far up North at Cap Estate! For about an
hour the winds have been blowing very steadily and for a good 15 minutes we
must have had a steady 50 mph wind speed with a bit higher gusts. This was
about 45 minutes ago.
Once the wind eased up the rain started really coming down! The winds are now
probably down to 35 mph steady and the rain is quite a bit lighter.
We have been very lucky with the electricity so far, not even a flicker!! I
will probably blight myself by saying that…
Just in case I made sure to get an extra 10 gallons of diesel for the
generator, hopefully it won’t be needed.
I took a drive around 2 pm this afternoon just before it really got nasty. The
seas coming into the north side of the causeway at Pigeon Island were
impressive! Probably 10’ I would guess. I went up to Mount Hardy and looked out
over the East Coast and Cas en Bas and the water was just white with big swells
breaking offshore. Definitely TS conditions!
Apart from very wet balcony’s and having a house full of dogs (5) and 3 cats
all wanting to keep out of the rain we are snug as a bug...

Now the winds have picked up somewhat here but still nothing to serous at my
location.
However the Marin bay in South Martinique I have first hand report of winds in
excess of 50 knots. (as reported by fm4qh via vhf)
Portsmouth reported 51 mph wind gusts earlier.
Here right now raining steadily with occasional heavy showers. Wind is in
gusts. Somewheres in the region of 40 mph I think. ( not measured)
Just keeping dry and waiting it out.
Keep dry and make cacao tea ok!

Our disaster committee met on Monday evening and prepared throughout the day yesterday.
The first outer band brought some gusts and light wind about 11:30 last night. We didn't have much rain till about 12:15 this afternoon. In Soufriere we've been monitoring the river (which is still low) and its overcast, grey with intermittent showers. At present rain picked up with a bit of wind gusting (not strong though).

TS Matthew has stuck, finally, after a long time of watching him.... Rain showers started last midnight with just occasional bursts then lots of dry periods... Then around noon, rain. Rain. Rain. It's been essentially non-stop since then, with it mostly being
steady light rain but interspersed with periods of heavier rain... We're in a pretty flat area, so no worries where we are for landslides or flooding or such. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for my neighbors in the hills, or near the rivers - this much
water on a relatively dry landscape can do some damage....hoping for the best!

Hi all,
So far so good..
So it has become TS Matthew.. right at us with it passing a tad North of Saint Lucia. Or at least that is the prediction.
So far from this morning it has been relatively dry with a few light showers and overcast with hardly any wind so far
Currently it is heavily overcast no actual rainfall at this time at 342m altitude.
From this morning the CEWN (Caribbean Emergency and Weather Net) has been active on 3.815 Mhz and from 8 Am on 7.162 Mhz
We are all just waiting and hoping it will move along nice a quick...
Here monitoring 145.530 Mhz 7.162 Mhz, 2.815 Mhz and scan on all close by repeaters on vhf inclusive of the marine channels
In the Bay of Marin a mere stone throw away 30 to 35 knots of wind reported.
J73WA Wayne in Portsmouth Dominica reported 51Mph wind gusts

Its very still and dark here this morning, completely overcast. We had a few showers in the night but nothing much to speak of. Its a really eery feeling, no one is around at all and all schools are closed. I see that the centre of the storm is still east of Barbados and we are to expect bad weather today so I will update as the day progresses.

Hmm Wondering will it or will it not develop.
Today was just hot and dry.
Got home after dark, got on the roof and took down the big antennae, juuuust in case...
Prefer to do the work and be wrong than the other way around.
It certainly looks like a bunch of water will be dumped on fair Helen.
Wind wise will depend on development of the system. I hope it does not!
All vhf and hf radios are on so we are as ready as it gets.
Generator fueled up and backup is full.
Water tanks are full. got food stuffs ready... flour and split peas we can do dahl puri eh!
Right now we get a good gust of wind every so often. (was fun removing the big yagi)

Its 9.35pm still quiet, occasional gust of wind but nothing unusual, the bay has been filled with boats. they are all tied to the mangroves as it is a known hurricane hole, as my colleague in Barbados said earlier, its just a waiting game now to see what the night will bring.

Currently seeing signs that 97L is tracking more north. Both Stormsurf &
Passage Weather showing St Lucia south of strongest winds (which are now
showing to be at about 35 - 40kts, and north of Martinique). Weather
Underground forecasting between 5 to 8 inches of rainfall for St Lucia for the
24 hour period midnight tonight through midnight Wednesday. To put that in
context, Hurricane Tomas rainfall figures were over 20 inches in 24 hrs. Expect
the possibility of heavy rains and some blustery winds. But do continue to
monitor this system in case something odd happens.

Lots of Lightening and Thunder last night, seems a depression was passing over, woke up to bright sunshine and no wind, just lately it has been that way, no breeze at all.
Looking at the forecasts it seems that we have a storm that is about 1000 miles away that is developing and the tracking forecast shows it passing very close to St Lucia It looks set to hit us tomorrow evening ( Tuesday) into Wednesday. So today its clean the gutters, check everything and make sure we are prepared, just in case.

Wow, WOW
The sun is unreal! Unbelievably hot. Scorching. I stepped out and felt like an open flame was licking my skin. Changed my mind about going out real quick.
So in case you did not get the message, it is hot and I'm actually looking forward to a bit of rain but just a bit, not too much. Forecasts and models and wx bloggers call for a system to develop in a few days. Please everyone, be prepared.

This weather system has been kind to Saint Lucia. Yesterday evening brought torrential rains mainly to the north. Good watering of the soil for farmers.
At 4am this morning it was very breezy, no rain and very cool. I dove under the covers which is rare for me for the past few months because it has been so hot.
Apart from a few showers today we've had bright sunshine and long periods of blue skies. From the Martinique radar, it seems like there was a rain shield around Lucia today. Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique and Saint Vincent have been covered with rain every time I look at the radar and St. Lucia is clear.
Its not over though so stay safe and dry everyone.

The rains have started a little over 30 minutes ago and are going strong, I cannot see down into the bay or likewise over the Roseau Valley, the wind is fairly strong and the rain is very heavy, causing flooding at the front of my house. Pretty amazing as its only been 30 minutes, thunder and lightening, luckily I am safe and sound indoors with my family.

Looking at the weather satellites and in fact just looking at the sky right now in Marigot looks like we are in for some rain and possibly thunderstorms, its gone very still - the calm before the storm perhaps? We are seeing sea horses on the crests of the waves which is unusual for here, I guess the wind is getting up out there.

While Hurricane Hermine is bearing down on the Florida panhandle and west coast, we are getting some welcome showers from a tropical wave. It also comes with a spectacular electric light show and rumbles.

Thank God for small mercies!
The impact to Saint Lucia could have been torrential rain and we would have had flooding. Thank God for the hot sun today.
Tuesday afternoon brought dark grey clouds and warning showers then absolute stillness. No wind, total calm and it was humid.
Wednesday there was no rain and it was HOT.
Just woke because a peal of thunder was so loud it set off car alarms. Radar shows some patches of rain. Now a cold breeze is blowing gently. I like it like that - cool breeze and gentle rain.
99L looks impressive right now. Stay safe and dry all in its path.

Well, Invest 99 has materialized nothing so far down here in the south of the island. Some dark threatening clouds this afternoon, with barely a shower dropping on us. It's very still, hot and humid around here. We could really use some rain and breezes to
cool things down! Nothing destructive of course!
Keeping an eye on 99, but likely we'll see little rain or anything from it.
And TS Gaston is a good far long ways our, with forecasts having it going north - no threat to us, or the Caribbean at large. We'll be keeping an eye on it, and as always, we'll be prepared - it's that time of year!

Not sure whether we should go into full on mode or just do some mild preparations. With the two tropical waves out there! I think a clearing of the gutters, a couple of candles, some matches and the all important bottles of water would be in order, especially as whenever we have heavy rain in St Lucia the water company turns off the water.
Today ( Tuesday) its hot and sticky with no wind at all, in fact a wonderful day.
Lets hope its a storm in a teacup! |

Hi All,
All during last night we had rains. Woke up this morning to a nice thunder and
lightening show here...
All ok on top of the mountain. Went out and from Pigeon Point down to the Red
Cross at Vigie all was ok, just rain rain rain..
Got word that town was flooded so did not go there since had no cause to be
there today.
Got home and it is still drizzling with occasiobn heavier showers...
This morning Hewanorra reported 35mm of rain.
currently official wx info from GFL Charles airport at Vigie is
25 Degrees Celcius, RH is 94% Wind Calm, Visibility 10Km and light rain.

Woke up during the night to sounds of thunder and heavy rain, this has continued for the past 4-5 hours its very dark and cold - having to wear a sweater which is unusual!! Looking at the forecast this weather is here for the day. Cant even see across the valley at Roseau, its just white with rain!

I was hoping by now to see some sun but that has not materialised
Looking at the doppler it ought to clear overnight....
The image from NOAA on HF is showing still covered at 4pm which is real indeed
But it is nice and cool this way though...
Saw a couple of FLOW poles down earlier today, one in trois piton eare and and
one in Monier area.
The Trois Piton area was hanging accross the road. But no serious danger in the
sense that it had no power lines attached to it, only the flow cables...
I have not been in town but am sure there was the regualr flooding in the usual
places.
In my area have not noticed any issues other than we are soaked :) no beach eh..

Yesterday I woke up to a nice rain storm here.
This morning it is a good thunderstorm, it even tripped the rcd.
turn it all back on, and counting the distance.. ok antennae stay connected for
now...
Pouring rain on and off with rolling thunder every so often. but that is all
ok.
And by time I finish typing this has all blown over...

Its been a funny week, hot and humid, unbearably so, a few showers and now a tropical wave passing over, dull and overcast with the odd heavy shower. Great for the plants, I have made a small herb garden at the side of the house and have planted some cuttings, I hope they take.

Well it rained all through the election yesterday after starting with a large storm - thunder, lightening and heavy rain at 4am, today it has been continuing but looking at the satellite, it seems we are soon to get some clear weather, it does seem to be brightening up a little outside.

Enough rain, thunder and lightening overnight.... this morning wet wet and
still raining...
It has been a continious thunderstorm over the north of Saint Lucia overnight.
But is nice and cool that way though...

Just sending this one to make sure this works, so when and if something comes
along we have it covered.
So far all is calm here. WX hot and a few showers...
just making sure all season preps are in place.
Left to check the shutters.. ham radio in place, portable setups in place,
generator in place, battery and solar yup!
Make sure you all have canned food in the cupboards, rotate it as time goes
along
Let's hope for a quiet season....

Its been an interesting time, we have had a severe lack of rain, resulting in the ground and in some cases buildings cracking! The local water company are trying their best but we all seem to be on some kind of enforced rationing. Which you wouldnt mind if only they would tell you first. Still I guess that is the fun of island living!
Rain showers seem to have started in the past few days so my garden and the general scenery around is looking a lot better, we have also had some wonderful sunsets!
