Not much to add to anything that's not publicly available. Nicole had her nasty moments and about 8" of driving rain, but (I guess depending on location) not as bad as Fabian. Lots of small debris down, not too many trees; I had power back by 3pm Fri, Internet/phone not till late today Saturday. No deaths, few if any serious injuries. Bermuda and the infrastructure survive. Today life is pretty much back to normal. Rgds. J

Well, thanks to God and all the prayers, we came through with minimal damage all things considered and when you look at the bigger picture of what could have been. Nicole was Cat 4 on her final approach and dropped to Cat 3 at the last minute. My power went out shortly after the last post. I spent 2 hours straight wringing out towels and pouring buckets of water down the sink. I was trying to prevent the house from flooding. Just as I was about to drop from exhaustion... the eye arrived. I put dry towels on the floor and went out to take a look. There was a twisted screen from a sliding glass door deposited outside my door upside down like a bat.  The banana patch has taken a beating and many branches were down on the avocado tree. Pears littered the ground.  The pawpaw tree was still standing. The backyard also had about 4 inches of water covering it. It was absolutely quiet outside not a sound.
Once inside I figured I would take a nap... the wind returned and it was so strong it shook the house. . I have a solid brick two storey home. After  the second shake, I decided not to sleep in my room as the remains of the avocado tree is outside my window and I wasn't  risking it falling on me so I moved to my spare room.  It was quieter in there too. I slept  for about 90 minutes.
Around 5 the winds finally subsided enough for the furry babies  ( cats ) to go back out.
Today the power company did a fantastic job restoring most of the power. A majority of customer lost service. The Parks crews were on site a schools clearing debris most of the day.
My  phone camera is mucking about so unable to load pictures. www.Bernews.com or The Royal Gazette | Bermuda News, Sports, Events, & Community will have some and stories too.
The airport reopened this afternoon. We truly came through with only cosmetic damages for the most part. The vegetation debris will all be gone shortly as our dedicated road crews and people of Bermuda work together.
I was at my dad's today he had power restored early. As I left I had to smile... he is a character .. can't keep quiet for a minute... the lawn looked immaculate not one leave to be seen. He has been out with his blower and collected all of them and the few branches that broke off.   He was not alone .. many other homes had already cleared up. I imagine my landlord will be down on the weekend to sort this lawn out :).
Praying the rest of the season is quiet!!

Well, we slept in the basement apartment of our friends house and were quite
cozy down there ... With the chickens clucking calmly from their crates....
Around 4am it started getting very bad outside... Lots of wind and rain.
Reports say 1,200 are already with out power. So far so good. But a cat 4
..... We are in for a long day. I got a hot cup of coffee... So that's
something.

Well. I stayed up to wait for the latest forecasts. Seems she may arrive as a Cat 4 now. That will be a nuisance. Probably around noon-2pm.

Light rain started around 10:30, no great wind strengthening yet, but all the forecasts are in alignment - Thursday will not be beach day!

I can say this now, 12 or so hours before destruction  - isn't she a pretty, just perfect storm? Hopefully that doesn't translate to her power. Bed now in relatively peace, we'll see what we awaken to.

Be smart and safe, Bermuda.

I expect power to go by the am..... Will summarise what happened when I can get to town (which will have power).

Here in my area Shelly Bay the winds a light and the odd short shower. The temperature is a bit lower with is nice... as we might not have ac tomorrow.
I rescued a huge bunch of bananas from the garden. Found neighbours and friends to take most.
I made a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting . House is clean laundry done.
I have heard from some of my Caribbean  friends  for support that is a big comfort.
So Nicole is Category 4 now .  And we are expecting the worst winds from 7 am till 3 pm tomorrow and the TS winds through the night on Thursday.
I think I should try and sleep. Rain just started.. a few gust.. clsoing windows.
Prayer gratefully accepted.
WIll check in in the morning

So far so good, no significant rain this afternoon and a pleasant 20kt breeze. That will change. weather.bm and http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT5+shtml/122032.shtml? have details.

She's a lovely storm now if you like that sort of thing, a beautiful eye... Looks like will be a Cat 3 as it approaches, then will drop back. Pressure right now is a non-threatening 1008/29.75. Everyone I know is home and prepared, businesses and schools closed for a few days, flights cancelled. Let's see what the next 12- 24 hours brings. At least we should be able to sleep with power tonight.

Hello All
So the night is cooler but apparently not from Nicole. We have a nice breeze and light showers off and on.
The day saw people taking the impending arrival a bit more seriously and once the  EMO gave the  island's safety plan the reality sinks in.
All school will be closed by noon tomorrow and businesses to close by 3 pm. They will not reopen till Monday.
The long bridge connecting the mainland to the  airport will be closed for a least 12  hours. It is close to the water and was badly compromised during hurricane Fabian. Sadly it still hasn't been completely fixed.
I drove along the south shore about 4 this afternoon.. the ocean was beautiful  a gorgeous shade of team and seafoam with lots of big waves and white spray as it hit the rock.  I plan to try and take a few pictures tomorrow on the drive home at noon weather and water permitting.
My furry babies 4 cats and full-time house dog  were in for a bit all together... the youngest kitten Nimbus was just wanting to wrestle with all the others.  Tomorrow is going to need a referee for him :).
I need to go wash the dishes so the kitchen is clean. Forgot to get paper plates so will do that tomorrow.
The UK has a boat on its way with a helicopter.. for assistance after the storm due to arrive on Friday. I really hope we don't need too much.  But it's good to know help is on its way just i case.
Oh goodness, I just remembered I have 5 bunches of bananas in various states of readiness and a papaya tree with over 60 papayas growing on it.. I hope they are will be ok. I know my avocados will be all over the ground.
Will try and upload pictures tomorrow
Have a good night

Nicole is approaching and reports say she is gathering strength. looks like it
will be very close to a direct hit at Cat 1(maybe 2) force. For those of you
that haven't followed my storm dramas in the past my condo sits high on a hill
with a full south shore exposure. My husband and other condo owners are
boarding up as I type. We usually go stay with friends (Jason & PB) whose
house sits lower than ours. This is great. We love these people. .... And
their cats, chickens, rabbits, birds, and this year we can add a dog to the
troupe. All of these animals come inside with us while we wait out the worst.
last storm the worst included Jason in his underpants playing the saxophone.
You see where I'm going?
My daughters school just sent out an announcement that school will be closing
early tomo. Some store in the main city of Ha,lot on are already boarded up.
On the way home I'll buy junk food and I'll post more later.

Hello everyone.
It's been a very distressing week, watching and reading about all the damage Hurricane Matthew has inflicted this season.  None of the storms seem to be following the rules. Who does loops and returns.. apparently Nicole has decided to come visit after all.
We had some showers and a bit of wind today.. we attributed to Matthew racing away to our North.
Currently, we have torrential downpours.. tonight was supposed to be our only dry night for the week. Looking on our website it seems as if this could be the outer bands of Nicole ,, she looks quite large.  The tree frogs are having a rousing chorus so we are ok for now.
We haven't had any decisions yet as to when things will close. I went to the shop and picked up 4 pack of drumstick ice creams ( hurricane provisions). It was not terribly busy and everyone seemed unbothered.
I think perhaps many of us still have stuff from 2 weeks ago. My youngest kitten Nimbus, who is now a year , has already decided he wants to be inside.  I imagine the others will come in Wednesday at some point.
Still praying it turns enough to not cause too much damage.

10pm AST Friday

From mid Bermuda, near Coral Beach.

Karl seems to mild (famous last words), I'm guessing winds maybe 20kts gusts to 30. Rain squalls of increasing frequency since lunch time. But Karl is strengthening, and still hasn't made the turn towards the NW despite very confident predictions, so we'll see.

Not a night to be out on a bike or dine in an outdoor restaurant, but otherwise all is fine.

Most people I know have acknowledged Karl, but made minimal preparations. We get winter storms much stronger every Jan-March.

Fingers crossed power holds up.

Ok, it's starting to sound stormy now. It is just before 8pm. Rain and wind
picking up. All balcony furniture and potted plants are inside. I already see
a bit of water on the threshold of one of our doors... But tile floors so I'm
not fussed. Husband and kid are next door eating tacos. So far no flicker in
power. So, we settle in. Blankets and Pinterest for me.

Well.. It's cloudy. No rain yet. Wind is meh. Honestly we are all just
sitting around staring at each other like "who knows". Work getting out early
at 3. I got coffee and snacks. No plans to board up. Hope we don't regret
that. More later.

Hello All
Its been a while .I hope all are well and taking note of this explosive start to our hurricane season. Praying that we will all have a safe passage through Nov 1st.
TS Colin looks to send us some wind and rain... and it's only 6 days in.
Bermuda is currently humid with clear night skies. The day was beautiful sunny and light breeze. Supposed to get progressively windier and rainy. Hopefully Colin doesn't come any closer.
 Be safe
Marion
