Did we ever have thunder lightening and heavy rains in the night.  At one point the winds were so strong bashing the rain against my North/East  bedroom window I almost thought I could be back in Canada in the winter with a hail storm!  For the first time too the rain came through the window pane sections and the corner of my bed, mattress and pillow were soaked. Very unusual.

Hi to all,

right now gusty winds, heavy but so far short showers over the South of Barbados with thunder and lightning out at sea South of Barbados.

Needless to say, but the cats really don't like it. ;-)

Stay dry folks.

Best regards to all.

- Some Rain

Barbados is an island that's fairly flat for the most part, like anywhere water
will find the lowest point to settle, some places it will get to flood stage or
the roads might get to where you might not want to go if you don't know the
terrain. We've got no big mountains for houses to slide down and rivers to get
wased away.(1)Bajan drivers, the ones with a Dog Licence should stay
home, accidents everywhere while driving on a straight road at no speed
whatsoever, some drive on the wrong side because they don't want to Amorol on
the tyres to wash off or get the fenders wet how sad.(2) Then there's the
Police going to accidents in the middle of it with sirens blaring through the
gridlock, some of which turn off the sirens once they get through the
traffic, they're prob headed for an independence drink.(3) And then there's the
Met Office at BGI,i wonder where they were at 8.30am when it was fair to
cloudy."Today will be generally fair with a few isolated showers"lol.

What a weather day for the eve of our 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.  It has been raining heavily non-stop for quite a few hours.  Barbados is under a flood alert. 54 mm received already.  Many distress calls have gone out for people to be rescued from cars and houses taking in  water. The roads are dangerous out there with all this flood water. Hoping against hope that this system passes through this afternoon and the parties, outdoor venues that had been planned and of course especially the fireworks at midnight will be continue as scheduled. 4 pm the met office to give an update on the situation.

- Barbados under flood warning
  • By Jurgen Starck <weather at turtle48.de>

Good morning to all,

a Tropical Trough in combination with the Inter Tropical Conversion Zone yesterday caused Barbados to be hammered by long lasting heavy rains with accumulated downfalls of 50-70mm. The MET office gave a flood warning for Barbados until 6 pm yesterday.

The agricultural field below my place in the very South of Barbados were partially turned into lakes, see pictures. Forecasts predict more rainfall to come until weekend. For now it's just cool and overcast but no rain.

Before midnight the gusty winds and driving rain started.  The winds have almost abated for now and the rain is down to a drizzle.  Earlier today the rain fell very heavy for a few hours so I would imagine there is flooding on roadways and low ground.  It is supposed to continue all day and looking at the satellite and long range forecast all week. There will be some disgruntled tourists for sure.

- Big surf
  • By Peter Allen <stilettocruises at yahoo.com>
  • Date: Tue, 18 Oct 2016 21:13:41 +0000 (UTC)
Here in Barbados the East coast has massive surf 15-20 ft,jetty damage to
Skeets bay and some fishing boats at their moorings are in trouble at Martins
bay and Tent bay.Very unusual magic seaweed and windguru show a NNE swell of
3-4 ft only.I also ask myself what's generating this swell as Nicole is long
gone.

Hi all,

believe it or not, this morning my wife woke me up with the words: "There is a lot of water in the kitchen!" And yes, there was. So, she activated the towel and mop brigade.

But what happened?

As Gert mentioned and we all know there is still <i>TS Nicole</i> out there heading North. No threat to land as yet? My foot! Her vortex apparently sucked in a trough or tropical wave which was passing south of us, see the satellite animation. And the rain and winds came in from the South right through the open kitchen window which is facing South. Leaving the kitchen flooded! :-o

Don't only look at where systems are heading, also have a look in their backyard!

You may all laugh about that one - I did too!

You all take care.

- My hopes became true
  • By Jurgen Starck <weather at turtle48.de>

Good evening again,

looks like my hopes from my yesterday's post became true. NHC is giving the tropical wave to the East of the lesser Antilles now a 0% 3-day-chance and a 20% 5-day-chance to develop into something. Good so. Hope it stays that way. Can't wait for the dry season, this heat is just not nice.

Best regards to all.

- Lesser Antilles
  • By Jurgen Starck <weather at turtle48.de>
  • Date: Tue, 4 Oct 2016 19:18:37 -0400
Good evening folks,

are we in the Lesser Antilles in for another one (see image)?! Nobody but the NHC and "Hogan" on the Grenada reports page seems to be talking about it. Matthew started the same way, even though he started his career a little earlier to the East to intensify. Good thing that I haven't put back my secured garden stuff and furniture yet.

I want to recommend that everyone in the region is watching this gigantic wave! It seems to cover a bigger area than Matthew did at that state. If that system can pull itself together and intensify, there might be "Otto" coming on to us as Matthew's brother. I hope I am wrong.

Better safe than sorry.

Stay safe and as dry as you can.
Best regards to all.

- This is serious buisness
  • By Peter Allen <stilettocruises at yahoo.com>

My feelings go out to Jamacia, you folks better get serious in your
preparations. At 5pm this hurricane is 140 mph gusting to 165mph.That is some
serious intensification in the last 12 hours,i don't know what cat that makes
it but that's a lot of cats for sure.

- No lightning

I have been out and about all day.First big squall was at 12.10 pm with smaller
subsequent squalls, another good blow was at 3.15pm nothing lasting longer than
15 mins before subsiding, there was 2 or 3 occasions of whiteout rain
conditions. My Location was 1/2 mile inland from the East Point Lighthouse with
access to a Davis personal weather station.Max wind gust recorded 41
knots=45.1mph at 12 .15pm,of note there was no lightning/thunder until 4pm and
only for a short period,i found this very unusual.Driving home from the Eastern
tip to Bridgetown nothing to report, broken twigs lots of standing water on the
streets, but no damage seen by me.

Heavy rain and windy conditions continuing on and off since noon.  Lots of areas flooded and reports of fallen utility poles and trees all over Barbados.

Reports of the "all clear" nowhere near and quite possibly not before tomorrow. Interrupted coverage and footage on local tv 8 at http://cbc.bb and vob929.com

Good afternoon everyone. Just checking in. Barbados has been experience bouts of heavy weather and throughout the day. We are praying for our friends in Dominica, Martinique, St.Lucia and St. Vincent as this storm is packing quite a punch. Matthew is yet another reminder why we need to be prepared because things can go south quickly.

Blessings to all as we continue to weather the storm together.

Hello fellow islanders. I haven't posted in quite some time but with a potential threat looming, I figured I would now. So far today we have experienced some sporadic shower activity. A band of moderate rain and gusty winds passed through a few hours ago and now we are just waiting. It appears as though there may be some impacts throughout the majority of the island chain so we should all be prepared and keep each other in prayer.

It is now 9.00pm and we have been getting the occasional heavy showers and gusty winds in the South of Barbados. According to our local weather updates, we are expected to feel the effects of this system after midnight, to be more specific, around 2.00 am tomorrow morning and it is expected to dump 4 - 8 inches of rain throughout Wednesday. I think Barbadians are prepared as we saw busy supermarkets, gas stations and hardware stores all day. The Government of Barbados issued a statement stating all businesses and gas stations should be closed by  6.00 pm this evening and the bus service will cease to operate from 8pm tonight. No school tomorrow!! So we have put certain things in place, its just the waiting game now. Will post as the night progresses.

92 L - passing over us.  A couple of rolls of thunder.  Very grey and overcast and hardly any wind, for the past three hours.  This last 30 minutes just gentle showers. The sky seems to be brightening.  That could be it for us, maybe and maybe not!

Although the main threat of the storm is not supposed to have any impact on Barbados except some rains tomorrow I do know that this past two days the incredible heat is wicked.  Not a breathe of wind. 35 C or more today. This morning the ocean was like a glass lake, I could see for miles then the humidity moved in and the visibility was lost with the heat haze. Actually looking forward to some showers to hopefully cool everything off. My dogs have hardly moved off the ceramic tiles in the coolest rooms they could find, all day.  Only going outside when absolutely necessary. Even the garbage truck and the mailman on his motorbike was too much trouble for them to go out and kick up a fuss.  It's that hot!

For months we have been dry and desperate for any passing shower.
Showers started on Sunday and again yesterday when a Tropical Wave passed by giving us a delightful 30.2 mm of rain, in a few hours.  Today it is overcast with more showers promised.  My lawn and gardens have made a miraculous recovery.    Everywhere is washed and feels clean again.
