Very still, hot and slightly overcast here on Upper Matecumbe. The wind is blowing around 10 knots out of the southwest. We are expecting isolated showers and thunderstorms for the next few days with no significant increase in winds as a weak ridge of high pressure moves across the Keys and into south Florida through the weekend.
Florida and particularly our county of Monroe has become known as the boating accident capital of the States, nearly all of this is accountable to alcohol, inexperience and poor planning. This holiday weekend will unfortunately and sadly prove no different. Here's hoping that fair weather and our diligent law enforcement crews can keep the crowds in line.
Arthur is moving up the coast well away from us, and the beautiful barrier islands of North Carolina are starting to enforce mandatory evacuations of visitors and residents are being strongly urged to leave. Our thoughts are with them...
