At the moment in Jamaica, we are experiencing a severe drought and critical water shortages. Our usual May/June rainy season only delivered approximately 30% of our expected rainfall. The two reservoirs which supply Kingston are at low levels and water restrictions are in place. This is also affecting parishes across the island and is having an impact on some of the food producing areas, including St Elizabeth, known as the breadbasket of Jamaica. Dry, windy, hot. I am losing some
of the plants in my garden. Our government minister responsible for water gave an address to the nation yesterday and one of the main takeaways was that we haven't seen the worst of this
drought yet. |
