In Barbados these past 2 weeks we have had gorgeous weather.  Abundant sunshine with an odd shower thrown in.  Back to watering the gardens. The trade winds are back and the nights are comfortable for sleeping with windows open.
Long range weather shows this pattern continuing for a while. Great for all Christmas activities and through the New Year celebrations.
Another year nearly finished and a new one on the horizon.  Have a great Christmas Season everyone and be safe. Jennifer

The rain hammering on our roof woke me up at about 4am. It hasn't stopped since, it's still raining "cats and dogs and a few cows". The ocean, which normally is straight out to the South in 2km distance is gone (saying, not visible!). Agricultural fields below us turning into lakes. Our swimming pool and rainwater tank are running over big time. Would love to keep that water too for the dry season...

Otherwise, I confirm " sydmouth's" report below. Hence, no need to repeat his statements.

Everyone may get through this as dry and safe as possible.

What a night! Rain, heavy rain, strong gale force winds and thunder and lightening. All school cancelled because of the weather. Flash flooding warning in effect - calls already coming in of roads under high water levels. Trees down and roofs blown off.
4 times in the past 10 years with water that runs of the hill adjacent to my property my lower back grounds produces its own lake.  It is there right now - about 25 ft wide and 80 ft in length.  65 mm of rain has fallen up till 6am this morning.
I know of three dogs that will not be running free in the gardens today.
Stay safe....

Today was the perfect Sunday.  The weather to do anything one chose, from washing the car, gardening or just liming at the beach.  Blue Skies, sunshine, breezes.  Just perfect! Hope you all had a great day.

I find when it rains in Barbados, it usually doesn't last this  or you get some pauses in between, but the rain started in my area (located in Christ Church) about 6:50 a.m. and hasn't let up yet. It hasn't even taken a bathroom break.
While driving today, I couldn't even see clearly to come out of my gap, the rain almost looked like one big white wave travelling along the pavement. Was indeed an interesting sight. There have also been some very polite thunder claps (at least from where I am) and some moderate winds. All in all, it is still a very beautiful day!

Thanks Alex for the report from SMX !! I have many friends in the boating
fraternity and not getting much information,i can well see some boats from
Gustavia making a last ditch effort to run and getting caught up on the way
over to St Martin even though it's only 20 miles,i hope all is well with that
one.

Barbara from SMX thank you for the reports,i was thinking there had to be some
carnage in Simpson bay lagoon, and I wonder what people were doing out at sea
between St Barts and French St Martin unless they made a late run for it,the
boats in Gustavia harbor must have also taken a real beating as the harbor is
open to the west.I'll bet there's going to be more than broken branches to this
thing when all said and done.Wishing the best for all Peter.

love to get some reports.Stay Safe Peter

This system has consolidated into a nice tight swirl and must be on the
doorstep of being declared a TD.To all of my friends in the Leeward Islands be
safe and this morning would a good time to make shure your boats are secure.I
see NHC has taken down 91L as of 8 am this morning.Best Regards Peter Allen

Well what do ya know!! 8am NHC declares 90L 13.3N 49.2W 600nm East of Barbados
moving w-wnw at 10k.Windguru is usually pretty amazing, however when I last looked
at this system it did not appear to have much spin, but 50k is time to check the
mooring ropes guys and gals.

- Looks like some rough weather for the Northern islands
  • From: Peter Allen <stilettocruises at yahoo.com>

I don't know who else has picked up on it, but Windguru has the northern
islands from Antigua right up to the USVI and probably PR looking at wind gust
just under 50 knots come Monday into Tuesday morning,Guadloupe southward the
winds drop into normal speeds .As we know this website is usually pretty much
right on target especially this close in time.I wonder what they are seeing as
the low pressure north of PR will be long gone, but there's a blob east of the
island chain. You boat owners better pay attention Hummmmm!

Weak tropical wave passed over Barbados today - some parts of the island had a shower and the rest nothing.  Cloudy with sunny periods. Still very warm.  All in all not a bad day.

Barbados has been looking for the rain since last night and so far nothing.  It feels like 40 degrees, hot, sticky, overcast and hardly any wind. The sun keeps peeping through.
Not a bad day so far.

- That was BERTHA - just a fish storm?
  • From: Jurgen Starck <weather at turtle48.de>
  • Date: Fri, 01 Aug 2014 16:06:10 -0400
Hi there again,

since my previous report, we had one of the most beautiful days around here, pretty humid though, but not really hot. Not a drop of rain but plenty of sunshine since my last report. Winds were much less than the weeks before. Aircraft are partially taking off heading West from the runway, clouds flying North, everything seems to be "upside down" and Bertha gone. And she has not much of a trail on the satellite images. So, that was just a "fish storm" for us here, down South in B'dos? Well, then! Better this way rather than disaster! At least, I got my surroundings tidied up! *TWINKLE*

Same good luck for you folks on the other islands!

- Bertha - short lived?
  • From: Jurgen Starck <weather at turtle48.de>
  • Date: Fri, 01 Aug 2014 10:52:06 -0400
Good morning to all,

at about 5:00 am (AST) Barbados was experiencing some winds along with showers coming in from North East, indicating that the island was under the influence of "Bertha's" vortex. This could and still can be confirmed by the Barbados weather radar imagery (http://barbadosweather.org/). BTW, the radar imagery is also useful for other Eastern Caribbean islands.

At 11:00 am the local MET office will lift the storm warning for Barbados, according to their current advisory #2A. Strom force winds will not affect the island, due to the distance of 56.6 miles in which Bertha will pass our island in the North East and the reach of only 45 miles of those winds apart from it's centre, if everything continues as projected so far. May be the Northern part of Barbados could get "a little blow".

As to
my very personal observation (THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL INFORMATION!), it seems that Bertha may have deteriorated to a Tropical Depression. The "how close can it get tool" shows a black line for it's pass, indicating TD and the satellite imagery also shows signs of lesser organisation of Bertha. For sure, no reason to get complacent! Bertha has changed it's data a few times on it's way, so why not again!

Currently, the weather is really nice, blue sky with patches of white clouds and next to no wind. However, "the party is only over when the fat lady sings.", there is certainly quite a bit of rainfall to be expected once Bertha (or it's remnants) have passed. MET says 1 - 3 inches for late afternoon.

Everyone may take care and stay safe.

Good morning - Waiting for Bertha to see what she has in store for us, starting this afternoon. Basically calling for heavy pockets of rain, possible thunderstorms and storm force winds.
At present after a few showers the weather is beautiful.  Cool but blue skies with the sun shining.  Lovely.
Today Emancipation Day so National Holiday.  This is also our Kadooment weekend, Monday the big finale parading down Spring Garden Highway.
Sunday weather maybe ok but I would imagine there is going to be some bedraggled and sad looking feathers with running makeup this weekend.

Stay safe..

The skies cleared within half an hour of my last report. Blue skies were the
order of the evening as TD2 lost steam east of the islands.

Tridents Vs Zouks is on at the Oval. Tridents are in in strong position at the

TD#2 has reached Barbados. Current conditions are cloudy/overcast. Bridgetown
and the South Coast have now disappeared under what looks like heavy rain from
this vantage point. We have not seen the thunder storms or high winds as
forecasted but the CPLt20 match scheduled for Kensington Oval at 4PM maybe
affected. More reports soon...

I can't believe that the tropical wave that we were all looking forward to for some relief in the rain department has passed under us, through us and around us and given us not one drop. Long range our next chance is next Friday.  This is awful - I cannot remember in all the years I have been in Barbados going this long without any rain at all. Everything is looking so wilted and dried up.

Hello from Barbados.  We are currently experiencing a drought.  It really hasn't rained per se for weeks and weeks.  Every day just strong winds and sunshine.  Everything in my garden is looking very sad although I try to put some water on the root systems late in the afternoon. The next 10 day forecast is looking almost the same as we have had. Just sunshine. Here's hoping we do have a very quiet hurricane season with no surprises.
