Beautiful morning here in Islamorada, just a few scattered clouds in a clear blue sky, light winds, maybe 10 knots out of the east. Looking forward to a bit stronger blow for windsurfing over the next few days.
Here is a picture taken at Campground Beach on Cape Cod on our trip up north last week... --

It has been a bit gray and rainy here, generally light winds, but we did have a tremendous lightning banger the other night. We are not certain but it appears to have scorched the ground on the property next door. Pretty comical thinking back about the three humans, two dogs and one cat jumping in fright at the flash and the sound!
We are looking at partly cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms for the next few days and a slight chance of rain. The winds will be just enough to make Hawk Channel a little bumpy, but not enough for us to practice our troublesome wind surfing skills...
Right now the 92L Invest appears to be tracking well to our west if it even develops, and Erin, crawling somewhat northward, may very well end up in Ireland where she belongs. Stay tuned, stay prepared.

We found a message in a bottle on the beach yesterday. Actually, it was in a mason jar, carefully sealed to protect it's contents. Eager with anticipation we opened the jar to reveal a piece of slightly worn and lined notebook paper with a rather dispiriting message. No greeting from some exotic denizen of a distant land, no mantra to live by, not even a simple request for contact from the recipient.
No, nothing of that order: no insight on the ultimate meaning of life, not even a simple comment provoking a conversation on the loneliness of the individual in the modern world seeking contact in any fashion.
Just a message, with signature, from a jilted lover wishing similar pain upon the jilter. How in the world they expected the message to find it's way to the correct recipient is beyond my understanding. I trust this doesn't mean that I will be feeling the pain ordained by this singular curse.
What does this have to do with Dorian? Precious little I fear, except that the message from Dorian appears to have degenerated into very little consequence for any of us, and that is a good thing.

It looks as if Chantal will now swing a bit closer to us than expected earlier but in a somewhat reduced state as conditions impede her development. We should expect some winds and rain Friday here in the Keys but nothing too serious. Upper reaches of the Florida east coast may see a more direct hit with increasing winds and rain after Chantal cruises the Bahamas.
Today, Wednesday, looks to be a bit unsettled with isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. We are considering a sunset cruise on the Rox'sea Music later today if things improve. If not, we'll just go out tomorrow...

Good morning from not so sunny Islamorada! Our sun is valiantly attempting to burn through the clouds, but I fear this will be in vain. The wind is gusty and blowing steadily at 20 knots out of the ESE, and the National Weather service is advising small craft to exercise caution outside the reef, in Hawk Channel and bayside.
It appears this will continue through the weekend and isolated thunderstorms could pose problems for unwary boaters. I worry most about the holiday weekend warriors mixing overloaded craft with inexperience, alcohol and more. We have had more than our share of preventable accidents over the last few years, including collisions, groundings and capsizes.
My advice? Save your gas for another day, enjoy a pina colada or a cold beer on shore, and leave generous tips for our hardworking locals. Happy and safe Fourth!
