- TROPICAL UPDATE
  • From: Ramzito Samandar <ramzitosamandar at yahoo.com>
  • Date: Thu, 15 Aug 2013 07:02:14 -0700 (PDT)
TROPICAL UPDATE

1. During the night, tropical depression 5 became the fifth named storm of the season; Erin. It has sustained winds of 40 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. it is moving to the west-northwest at 16 mph. current minimum pressure is around 1006 mb. It is expected to keep moving to the west-northwest and strengthen over the next 2 days and become a strong tropical storm before it starts to weaken and move more towards the west. Yet, we can’t precisely talk about landfalls because the storm is very far from land but right now it is not anticipated to move towards the Caribbean as it could weaken to a tropical wave or move to the north of the islands.

2. The broad are of low pressure over the northwestern Caribbean weakened during the night, and the NOAA has decreased the chances for this system to develop to a 50% chance in 48 hours and a 60% chance in 5 days. It will move over land today in the Yucatan Peninsula and then move over the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow. By tomorrow it could have a chance to develop again but development seems uncertain as conditions are not that favorable in the Gulf. Thunderstorm activity has increased during the last hours so it is trying to develop but due to the system approaching to land; it will likely not develop today.

Good morning folks of the caribbean
After a long period of dry weather we woke up this morning
with an overcast sky with rain, thunder and lightning.
Looking at the radar this kind of weather will continue for the
next few hours.
The trees were waiting on the rain for long.
For those in the northern leeward islands waiting on DORIAN
to pass by, stay safe,
