1. During the night, tropical depression 5 became the fifth named storm of the season; Erin. It has sustained winds of 40 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. it is moving to the west-northwest at 16 mph. current minimum pressure is around 1006 mb. It is expected to keep moving to the west-northwest and strengthen over the next 2 days and become a strong tropical storm before it starts to weaken and move more towards the west. Yet, we can’t precisely talk about landfalls because the storm is very far from land but right now it is not anticipated to move towards the Caribbean as it could weaken to a tropical wave or move to the north of the islands.

2. The broad are of low pressure over the northwestern Caribbean weakened during the night, and the NOAA has decreased the chances for this system to develop to a 50% chance in 48 hours and a 60% chance in 5 days. It will move over land today in the Yucatan Peninsula and then move over the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow. By tomorrow it could have a chance to develop again but development seems uncertain as conditions are not that favorable in the Gulf. Thunderstorm activity has increased during the last hours so it is trying to develop but due to the system approaching to land; it will likely not develop today.

Its been rumbling since the early morning. Lightning all over the south coast since 03:00. Yesterday we experience a day without sun, no wind, very suffocating. We woke up this morning with overcast skies all over the island. The sun was nowhere to be seen.

- Yesterday was a very dark day in our history with the assasination of the maximum leader Mr Helmin Wiels, a very radical and outspoken leader who declared war head-on against corruption and the maffia. We are mourning his dead this mourning with dark clouds covering the island. May he rest in peace.............
