Greetings from the Dutch Caribbean The winds continue to howl. It’s been the windiest spring I can recall. Also, the Sahara dust is brutal. I won’t even open my windows anymore. We need rain. It’s been howling in Bonaire. We’ve had big winds since the weekend and according to Windfinder and Wind Guru, there are no signs it’s letting up soon. Yesterday, it started gusting over 30 after 3 PM. As I write, my roof is creaking and I can hear it blowing. Windsurfers on island this week were treated to superior conditions albeit a bit gusty. Happy New Year from Windy Bonaire The Christmas trades came in making way for some great sailing. Greetings from the Dutch Caribbean Having lived or traveled in the Caribbean since 87, I can say, this was clearly, the most quiet that I can recall. Having said that, anything can happen. We could use a spot of rain on Bonaire. A bit of weather sports news; Bonaire’s own, Kiri Thode has been crowned the 2013 PWA Freestyle World Tour champion, by claiming the Sylt World Cup, in Germany. I’ve known Kiri since 2001. This guy spends hours on the water, 360 days a year training. He deserved this honor. Last night, it seemed the entire island turned out to meet Kiri at the airport as he arrived from Amsterdam on KLM. So excited for this young gun. He rocks on the water. We had a rainy morning in Bonaire and then the wind returned with a vengeance. It’s 4.7 sailing on Lac Bay. There was a lull, of course when I took my break from work but it’s up again. Next week, Andy Brandt returns for his annual summer ABK Boardsports Clinic. I am hoping for some nice 16+ winds for the group. Bon Dia Today’s the day I start to paint my house. I spent the week prepping and was ready to go. Alas, it’s another rainy day. Not as heavy as last Saturday but definitely tropical. I took the dogs for a walk and the mossies were out in full force. Went out for Gelato at Gio’s last night. This amazing spot is my fav place but I try to only visit once or twice a year. Sooooo rich soooo good. The island is hopping as it’s Heineken Jazz Festival.
I need to update my blog but take a peak for island news. We had quite the weather day here in the little Dutch Caribbean. First off, I am from New England so know weather, love weather, live for weather. I windsurf so follow the wind patterns. I also happen to love love love thunderstorms. Well, I woke to weather bliss. The landscape has been so parched so we needed a heavy dose of rain. Mother Nature delivered. It rained all morning. We had thunder and lightning to add to the show. Of course the power went out for over 5 hours. Man, the chill in the air was something. I opened all the windows to freshen the house. At 3, it was cool enough to hike up to Sera Largu.

There is thunder boomers and high wind. I'm going outside now to see if I see
lightning
It is very dark we have some rain some kind of storm is passing through any
kind of change in weather here is pretty exciting for this New England girl

It’s super windy here, or as they say in New England “Wicked”. I sailed a 5.0 meter Severen Gater sail the other day on my 85 Liter ole Angulo Chango board. PURE HEAVEN. The bay had all kinds of voodoo chop so my knees were worn out a bit but fun. Yesterday, it was 18 or so but wicked gusty. I passed.. Bonaire is busy with Dutch folks on holiday. Bon Tarde from the Dutch Caribbean Winds are light, clouds are puffy shading us from the blazing Caribbean sun. The landscape is parched. We need a good rain shower. Not much to report. My dive clientele are enjoying the perfect conditions. Winds should be back for my windsurf group arriving next week. Taking a walking trail hike to Dos Pos this week. Bonaire is blessed with incredible trade winds. Windsurfers are flying around the bay on very small gear. We need a bit of rain to give the critters a little drink and to wash away the dust. The wind gods are blessing the island with amazing wind. I had the best windsurf session of the year, Wed. sailing a 4.8 Neil Pryde sail on my 85 Liter Angula Chango. Life is good. Flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, tourists are diving and windsurfing and kiting..it’s a blissful day on our sunny island. It was a super muddy dog walk today. Confienza and I look like we did a mud run obstacle course today. It’s a mid 70 kind of morning, no wind at all but not as muggy. Around 11 AM, a front came in fast with heavy intense rain bands and severe thunder and lightning. The air cooled down to about 75 degrees. We need the rain but the ground is parched, so run off is intense. I hear the planes taking off at Flamingo Airport so flight activity continues. I woke this morning and had to question if it’s Oct. The weather is positively oppressive with no wind, high humidity and blazing sun. Wow, unreal. I am putting out a bucket of water for the local donkeys. The birds are bathing in the pan I placed outside. It’s a beach and nap kind of day. Kite Week is soon approaching.
