There is a system in the Atlantic at around 43w that bears watching.Crownweather is on to it and all of the models are looking at a possible TS in the eastern Caribbean with one suggesting it may develop before the lesser Antilles,Windguru has also picked up on it with the windspeed well up on Monday. The NHC has not even so much as put a circle on it as an area of interest with no mention whatsoever, might they be asleep.Hurricane Tomas was the same senario couple of years ago,be on guard.!!
Yesterday we had a deluge of rain and gust up to 40 knots.

Wow so we have some heavy rains falling and the winds are out of the ESE at 67km/h.  The leave are blowing, trees bending double and the rain just swirling everywhere with the high winds. The weather man did say this was a week tropical wave!!!  the best we have had for a very long time. So happy I am indoors today nice and dry with my 3 dogs.  At some point they will have to go out though, and oh boy I have visions of the mud out there in my gardens, and what it means for me.

Intermittent heavy rain accompanied by thunder over the last hour. Storm
conditions minus the wind.

The sky is aglow with large displays of sheet lightning. I'm seeing the "gold" kind as opposed to the "blue" kind. No rain, no thunder (at least not that I can hear). I just opened the door for a moment and a lovely breeze was coming through but inside the house is warm. Some people are complaining for the heat. I don't see the point, really. Complaining about it won't make it go away.

Light rain and long thunder rolls on the outskirts of the city. I almost feel like the ceiling is shaking a little. Where is my nearest emergency exit again? lol

- Very Heavy Showers

There were some very heavy showers on the outskirts of Bridgetown today after 1 pm, as well as  a boom of thunder that nearly jumped me out of my skin! The sun is back out now but the road is still wet. I can hear the gushing of the water as vehicles pass by.

Records show for the month of August Barbados received 1/3 of our total years rainfall. September only 2 days in is also starting off with flooding and very heavy downpours on a regular basis. Last night it rumbled, grumbled and lightening was everywhere but it wasn't until this morning that the rains came, again. Same outlook for tomorrows forecast.

Barbados is indeed lush and green. A bit of a downer for the tourists who will go home as white as they arrived.

It has never stopped raining since I posted in the early hours of the morning. Thunder and lightening seems to have moved on. 2 inches had fallen by 6am this morning at the airport. Has to be flooding in parts of the island by now.

It is raining very heavily and the thunder and lightening is all around. Looking at the satellite it is going to be with us for most of the night.

It has been raining here in Christ Church quite heavily all morning but has
eased up quite a bit now. Guess the hurricane season is really now about to
kick into gear and we will be getting more showers as the days go by,seeing
that the past weeks have been very hot.
Stay dry all

Finally after so many many hot hot days here in Barbados just before 6am this morning the rain and thunder came. It is now tapering off after a good three hours, here on the South Coast. The radar shows more showers in for the day - but we need this. I have never seen the grass and shrubs looking so brown and wilted for the supposed wet month of August, for lack of rain. Thunder still rumbling. The only down side to this weather is I have three dogs trailing me around the house as they do not like thunder and lightening at all.

This morning at 6.00 am the centre of Chantal could be clearly seen on the Barbados Doppler Radar just to the north of Barbados, strangely we have not encounterd anything in the way of wind with a constant light drizzle and only a couple showers with about 2 claps of thunder in the distance, seas have been calm for the most part while driving around this morning, not even dead branches from trees on the road.We have been extremely lucky not to have seen conditions anything like St Lucia-Martinique amazing actually. Regards Peter

- Wind and rain picking up

Chantal has passed Barbados in the North, two hours earlier than forecasts said! Between 6:30 and 10am it was just rain dribbling down permanently. Since about 10am wind is picking up and rain is getting stronger with pauses in between. As I am writing I hear thunder rolling in the distance. So far, no real threat, though.

  • Date: Tue, 09 Jul 2013 06:41:35 -0400
Through the night we have had some heavy downpours, but very little wind. The government is asking for all Barbadians to continue to watch, and wait and not venture out. Once the centre of the storm passes 50 miles North of Barbados that apparently is when the real rain will start for at least a couple of hours. Outside is very grey and still, with a slight drizzle falling. The roads are empty with only one or two vehicles passing. So we continue to wait.

Good morning,

Bus services ended at 9PM last evening and have not resumed as yet.

Bajans headed to the supermarkets and gas stations in droves yesterday

We had some rain lastnight but that was basically it, thank God.

We are waiting on the "All Clear" before any movement about the country and
most people are observing this rule. This is expected around noon.

- Chantal taking over?
  • From: Jurgen Starck <weather at turtle48.de>
  • Date: Mon, 08 Jul 2013 20:17:59 -0400
Hi to all!

I just stood
at the kitchen window (which is facing West!) and a low wind was coming IN! May be a little early with regard to the forecasts. But as said, it was just a little stream of low speed air just going the "wrong" way through the house. May be the very outskirts of TS Chantal knocking at the door? Not sure, though. However, a breeze from that direction is telling you something... I guess, IT'S COMING.

Everyone may stay safe!

- Heat!

It is surely "heating up" as Barbados awaits Chantal's arrival after midnight. As expected, the system seems to be sucking up every bit of wind in the atmosphere. It's almost unbearable. Not anything quite like this morning when I was enjoying the cool breeze coming through my bedroom window. Obviously, that didn't last too long.

- Tropical Wave
  • From: Mark M <markbgi at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 28 Jun 2013 19:02:08 -0400
Hi everyone,

After a day of intermittent showers the rains are here again. The tropical wave
is expected to affect us overnight so lots of the Friday night Crop Over
activities may be rained out.

I was planning on touching the Pork Lime as usual tonight but that looks
doubtful at this point. This looks and sounds like all night rain.

Stay safe
