Ernesto was mainly a rain event. It rained for about 4 hrs non-stop. There was a fairly strong wind from the west but nothing very serious. I think we are in for more rain tonight and for the first time today I am hearing the rumble of thunder.

Been getting quite a bit of rain from a feeder band. Some breeze now and then but not much. A tree limb fell and took down a power line near the west end of the island earlier this morning. Didn't hear if it was storm related or not.

I started out early this morning to prepare for the storm. Monday 7:55 am First sprinkling of rain 9 am I found the banks to be empty of customers, no lines at the gas station, grocery stores well stocked, now crowded. Everyone on the street is jovial and not too concerned, but that is the way with islanders. In general, they will worry when there is cause to do so, not a bad way to live. Heavy scatter band of rain for 15 minutes.
12:30 pm
Stores are filling up as news spreads Ernesto is intensifying. Lots of cars pulling into grocery store parking lots and lines at the gas station. The sea is slate gray without a ripple. There are no trade
winds. It is still. A few birds are still singing, a good sign. Hot and sticky. We wait. 2 pm
On the horizon, heavy rain and clouds can be seen over the mainland, 40 miles away form Roatan.

16.2 N x 81.1 W this is where Ernesto is right
now which puts it on the same Latitude we are. Sine it is still moving west by
Northwest the distance of closest approach should increase, but at the same time
intensity is increasing, maximum sustained winds now at 65 MPH with higher
gusts. Ernesto is forecast to become a Hurricane later today. So with that said
we are now on the edge of the 35 knot wind advisory
forecast....
We are at 16.2 N X 86.2 W so with that in
mind lets hope it keeps heading west by Northwest. Had one band of rain come
through this morning, not much and it is presently overcast for the most part
with dark bands to the East heading our way. Will keep everyone posted since
Ernesto is forecast to become a Hurricane later today..

P.S. Some island boats are showing up
here in the “hurricane hole”.. We have extra lines on our sailboat and the sails
wrapped and secured.

hi. here on roatan western third of island more or less north coast... (up on a hill so i get wind from all around) i will try to keep you updated on ernesto. always we have the problem of the power going out so if it does it will be more difficut to keep in touch. but for now i've done most of my prep. removed orchids, hanging baskets and harvested the mangos and limes. still need to move one large parrot. its been overcast all morning and it was just raining on the west end of the island. not much breeze at the moment, sort of our normal breezes. will ck in again later with updates. till then.
