Just a quick update re: the missing person in Guadeloupe.
He was found yesterday safe and sound with a few bruises and cuts.

- Big local thunderstorms

So, for the last two days we've had large local thunderstorms in the afternoon around 2pm.
Friday's storm passed right overhead and a lightning strike landed next to my neighbours house. It was the loudest noise I've heard for years (I didn't go to that infamous The Who concert sadly). It made me jump and my ears were ringing for a few minutes. I didn't see exactly where it landed but I knew it was extremely close. Good job I'd stopped waiving the big metal stick I was using to pick limes from the tree a few minutes earlier.
The strike was powerful, it blew up a decent piece of 10cm thick concrete that they park their cars on, see pic ! Sadly they lost a microwave, a computer, at least one aircon unit too and were out of electricity for the long hot night that it was. And they lost their bin that was taken away by the torrential rain that poured down the road, we live on a fairly steep hill. It was recovered apparently around about a mile or so down the hill.

- Martinique : Update

Waiting for officiel information but there have been some fairy serious
flooding, a large landslide in an area already affected by ground movements
(Morne Calbasse) which required 4 families to evacuate their houses this
morning around 5am.
Just heard from Twitter that a man, 62, has been killed in his house by
electrocution after flooding. I don't know the circumstances yet.
The French Meteo website is being hammered and its difficult to get any info
from it at the moment.
Around me, all is calm now. The rain has pretty much stopped and things seem
to be starting to get back to normal, at least cars are starting to circulate.

Well, good morning to all.
We've just had a huge storm pass over. Lots of rain, lightning and thunder.
It started about 3 ish this morning. Things have abated now but there is still
a lot of rain. I'll wait to get reports of just how much and post later.
Here's the loop form Martinique radar, looks like we got the worst of it !

It's certain that the decision to push back by 2 days Martinique's biggest
sporting event of the year, the Tour des Yoles Rondes, was a wise one.
http://www.tourdesyoles.com. Don't worry if you don't read french, use google
translator or something similar. The boats are unique in the world and its a
great spectator sport.... or better still, come to Martinique and organise an
outing on a yole you won't regret it believe me ! Look in a local tourist
guide for a group that takes the public out.
As one correspondent said, its a nice dry-run for a real hurricane. Check your
provisions, fill the bath with water, candles, shutters... you know the score.
Fingers crossed, my drainage system I put it Sat/Sun has help up.

Invest 91L is looking good for a track into the petit Antilles.
All the models look favorable for something over us in the next 80 - 120 hours.
I hope the SHIP model is wrong :-(

Just a quick note about this year's hurricane season. I'll posting as and when
necessary, trying not to be too "noisy", the events of this year when it
affects the FWI.
Take care and see you on the other side ;-)
