Goodmorning Everyone,

What a couple of hours we had last night!!!!!!!! Our 6:00pm flight from St.Maarten reached the island only to find no lights on. The backup electricity for the airport had not had time to come on before the plane arrived so of course, the plane went back to St.Maarten. We had a nice light show with great sound effects. The thunder seemed to roll forever. In a very short time we had 1 11/2 inches or 37.5mm of rain. All flights were cancelled last night and Winair was busy getting everyone here this a.m. Today it is sunny but the seas are still rough. Olga needs to disappear.

We all felt the big quake on Statia. It seemed to last about 30 seconds. Rudy was at home and I was at the shop. The walls started shaking at the shop and at home bottles were moving and there was suddenly waves in the swimming pool.

Everyone is talking about it. Luckily we are far enough away to not have any damage. We are glad to read that most of the islands are reporting the same. Hopefully the islands close to the center will find no more damage this morning as they check all the structures.

On another note, it is a beautiful morning on Statia. We had 2/10's of an inch of rain last night and one inch last Sunday so everything is greening up again.

It's a cloudy and wet day. Last night we had 4.9 inches of rain. 3.9 fell in less than 2 hours. Our cistern was over flowing.

The waves are still very choppy on the west side of the island. It is not a good day for diving. Hopefully Invest 90 will not develope and just move out quickly.

Hello to everyone. Rudy and I have been on vacation and got back to the island a week ago. It was nice not having to worry about any storms heading towards Statia. Since we have been back there has been 2 1/2 inches of rain. The island is nice and green and our cisterns are full.Our beach is starting to build back but it will take awhile. Looks like Karen and our newly formed depression will miss the islands.

Hello to all,

Statia was very lucky. We did have tropical storm force winds.There was electricity outages and all flights were cancelled after 10:00AM. I only measured 6/10th of an inch of rain at my house.

When we came to work our beach was almost gone and the waves were big. ( see below) We are still getting large waves and loosing more beach.

All of us at Dive Statia send our blessings to those in the track of the now very powerfull Dean.

Goodmorning to those of us that still have electricity!!!

We have brisk winds and the seas are building on the East side. The harbour is calm but that should change later today.

Yesterday all the boats on the island were pulled out of the water. That task took all afternoon. Two cranes, flatbed truck and a forklift. No rain but lots of dark clouds.

We hope our neighbors to the south are O.K..

JUST A SHORT NOTE TO SAY THAT THINGS ARE FINALLY LOOKING GREEN. WE HAD 1 1/1O INCHOF RAIN YESTERDAY AND A TENTH THE DAY BEFORE. ADD THIS TO THE INCH WE HAD LAST WEEK AND WE NOW HAVE GREEEN GRASS. I HOPE THE TREND CONTINUES.

Hello to everyone,

I have been reading where everyone has been having some nice and needed rain. We would sure like to have our share!

We had 7.5mm Saturday at out house but others reported up to 15mm. That will barely wet this very dry island. I quess we got spoiled having three years of no dry season. I almost forgot what it was like not having rain. I am remembering very well now. Now for good news. Our divers had a big surprise yesterday on their way back from a dive. They got to snorkel with a humpback whale!! I don't think they will ever forget that trip. We also started a new web site that we update with the news of the island and our shop.
