Greetings all from the lush and tropical Unspoiled Queen.
The Old Year went out with a bang and the New Year came in with clouds of smoke and sulpher.
Our neighbors, Raymond and Joan did a wonderful display of fireworks and gave an Old and New Years gathering. ( Ian was the fireworks M.C.)
Commissioner Bruce and spouse Tracy gave a wonderful party also with  lots to eat and drink
Although it was a bit windy and a few intermittent rain showers nothing put a damper on the occasion.
Rain fall for the month of Dec stood at 2 3/4 inches and the avarage temp was in the low 80" s.
Today started out with a rain shower and the wind is about 15 kts, seas are rough and the vis is about 15 km.
Best regards to all for the New Year.

- Rain showers.

Greetings all.
Saba has been under the clouds pretty much for the afternoon and it has been raining intermittent. This will help with topping up the cisterns again.
Temps today have been in the low to mid eighties.
We have not felt any more tremors since the last one.
Thanks St Maarten for the Saba Day wishes. There were some activities over the weekend but this weekend coming should be the real deal.
Good luck to the trolling crews as by the looks of wind guru it should be a rough one.
Best to all

Greetings
It is officially over.
Saba recieved 7/8 th " of rain for the month of November which is pretty low but no one is complaining due to cisterns topped up in October.
H season was uneventfull for some and harsh for others.
Hurricanes can be predicted but no one said anything about that EARTH QUAKE.
I was sitting at my desk at the airport and man was that a rocker it's the strongest I have experienced since living in the caribbean.
Lots of people felt the tremor on Saba but luckily no damages have been reported.
I was viewing the surrounding cliffs and hills when i went out in our boat yesterday and all looks in tak.
Happy Saba day to all Sabans.
Temps are in the mid to high 70's during evening hours and low to mid 80's daytime.
The beach is gone and the winds are calm today.
Hello to Sue , Pete, and the gang, and  Linda and Joe and Alex.Hi Arthur and fam.

Greetings all from the rock
I recorded 9 1/2 inches of rain at my location for the month of Oct.
Saba is back to her old self again and is as lush and tropical as ever.
Hey Pete sorry so late.
Swells have picked up as of late and there should be a strong undertow going this is usually the norm for this time of year.
Mount Scenery has been very  clear these past weeks and the temps have dipped into the mid to high 70's at night. A bit nippy for us, daytime temps are in the eighties .
For those who have never climber the highest peak in the Dutch Kingdom now is the time.
Best to all

- Rain.
  • From: "Vincent Louise Vincent" <vin_lou at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2007 12:41:59 -0400
Greetings all from The Unspoiled Queen.
Rainfall amount for the month of September stood at 2 1/4 inches at my location. During last evening Saba experienced some intermittent down pours and some wonderful lightning displays.
Rainfall for the month of October so far stands at 2 inches.
Winds today SSW at 8 to 14kt gusting to 23 knots during rain showers which are also intermittent today, barometric pressure stands at 29.92 " or 1013.1 millibars and temps are in the low 80's. With the showers Saba has been receiving her colour is coming back to that lush tropical green. A big landslide occurred a few weeks ago in the area of Tent Bay and very close to the sea. Looking at the amount of and size of the area I would say there is a considerable number of tons that have slipped down. Due to the cross winds at Saba airport Winair has not been able to execute it's schedule today up till now.
Take care Sue, Pete, and fam also, Linda, Joe and fam.
Best regards
Vince

I have just checked the floater on T D 8 and there is some shear going on at this time.
It also looks to me as if this is a twin as there seeems to be 2 centres of circulation as the clouds and T storms that have took a southern dive looks like it has it's own ciculation and the northern part is visible.
Sorry for not posting last months rainfall and wx.
Rainfall stood at 1 3/4 inches for August and other than large swells effecting the harbour from Dean that and a wind gust at the airport of 52 mph that was about it for August. So we are still in need of rain.
Winds today ENE at 10 knots seas calm temps upper 80's.
We did have some brief showers last night and early this morning and all skies are now clear.
Ok Sue and Pete take it easy.
Rosa.
Best regards

Dean is now over St Lucia and Martinique.
Winds in our area are starting to pick up somewhat around 15 mph, no rain at this time.
All boats at the harbour have been secured.
Some residents have opted to partially close the homes and places of business while others are waiting and watching what takes place this morning.
A  small feeder band is passing over our area at this time  5:48.
Will send more info as the day progresess
Stay safe.

Hi all.
11 am position of Dean.
12,4 N 46.0 W or about 1045 miles east of the lesser antilles
Winds 60 mph with gusts.
Bar 997.
Movement west at 20 mph
should become a hurricane by late tomorrow if not sooner.
Looks as if Dean will remain south of our area BUT do not leave ur gaurd down.
My best estimate is the central caribbean islands or there abouts and I am sure none of the caribbean islands need to see any hurricanes as many of the islands are just getting over from the drought we have been having.
Ok Jim and Karen

- July
  • From: "Vincent Louise Vincent" <vin_lou at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Thu, 02 Aug 2007 07:20:00 -0400
Greetings to all.
July monthwas a good month for the gardens and cisterns as a total of 7 2/3" rainfall was measured at my location and I am confident that more had fallen elsewhere on the island.
The " beach" is still around and has been for quite some time now.
Wx today hazy with a few light and brief showers, winds easterly at about 18kt, seas are very rough and the vis is about 10 km, temps are in the eighties.
Saba Summer Festival is over and it's back to work.
It.s cloudy over Mount Scenery right now but as the day progresses it should clear somewhat.
The wx system to our south has blossomed up again this morning but should not be a threat to the northern islands, I understand that Barbados had a wind gust of 58 mph with lots of rain yesterday.
Ok Will thats about it.

- wx today
  • From: "Vincent Louise Vincent" <vin_lou at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2007 06:58:16 -0400
Greetings all.
Weather at this time stands at winds SSE at 12 kt, Barometric pressure 30.02 and the trend is rising, vis + 10 miles and no precip expected today. Great day for Scuba diving or climbing the highest point in the Dutch kingdom, or just chillin on the porch with a cold one. The island had started to turn her old lush colour after the nice showers but more is needed to keep her looking that way.
The Saba Summer Festival is in full swing (ha).
Thats about the size of it.
Best regards.
Vince

Title: Message
Well, it finally happened - it rained!!! Oh joyous day.

With just over 10" from January until July 18, we received a very welcome 6.5" in the last 36 hours.

Every one's cisterns are going up (rather than down), a beautiful glow of green has returned to the hills and the Unspoiled Queen is once again in her glory.

I even noticed the goats were smiling a little more enthusiastically on my way into work today.

Other than that, normal temperatures (82*F in the ocean!!!) and amazing summer diving.

Cheers,

Jan den Dulk, Manager
Saba Conservation Foundation

- Dry Dry and more Dry.
  • From: "Vincent Louise Vincent" <vin_lou at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Mon, 02 Jul 2007 17:21:40 -0400
Greetings all .
The Saban population is going through a very very dry spell at this time.
Changes can be seen on a daily basis, when looking up at mount Scenery the trees and leaves seem to be getting drier every day, down at the lower levels of the island is a pityful brown.
I did not post the rainfall for May but it stood at 1 1/2 " rain fall for the month of June was also a squeeze of a sponge 1 1/4 ".
Temps are in the high 80's and winds have been a bit on the strong side as of late East to East South East 14 + kts. Saharan dust is visible during sunrise as the sun has that thing about it.
Thats about it folks.
Glad u are keeping tabs Chester.
Best to all.
Vince.

  • Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2007 14:56:56 -0400
Greetings all from the dry Unspoiled Queen.
Saba is so parched and dry at this time people are so low on water that many are taking this oppertune time to give their cisterns a good clean out.
We have done two of ours and many have followed suit.
The goats and sheep are walking around looking lean and mean u can catch one when washing your clothes and use it for an old time scrubbing board their ribs are showing that much.
Desal plant still up and running and the fresh water spring also.
Winds have picked up today as we have had a few days of relativly calm weather and calm seas.
We did some whelking and brought in over 1000 a few days ago the family had their share and stewed whelks could be smelled in the neighbourhood.

Best regards
Vince
