- HIGH WAVES
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2008 10:02:30 -0400
Looks like we're in for another bout of rough weather.   Large swells from the northeast will start building early Wednesday, 2 April, and peak at about 12 feet (with a period of about 11 seconds) by late Wednesday/early Thursday morning, slowly subsiding on Friday, but remaining at about 8 -10 feet thru the weekend. While this period of rough seas will not be as bad as those experienced on 19 - 20 March, these seas will be accompanied by northeast winds of 20 - 25 knots with some higher gusts in local squalls. It is possible that ferry service/offloading services could be interrupted/canceled Wednesday and/or Thursday, and rough seas can be expected thru the weekend.

- LARGE WAVES - ANGUILLA
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Fri, 21 Mar 2008 14:01:33 -0400
For those of you off island, I have posted pictures and video from the large, damaging waves we've had here in Anguilla since Wednesday at:

The wave heights peaked on Thursday morning with most reports putting the height at 16 feet.  Lots of beach erosion, especially on north facing beaches.  No ferries or container ships since Tuesday, and with holidays, guess there will be no deliveries until next Tuesday.

- CHRISTMAS WINDS ARE A'COMMIN!
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2007 12:42:34 -0400 (Atlantic Standard Time)
Hate to disagree with Miss Mermaid in Tortola, but hang on to your hat - the Christmas winds are on the way! The winds picked up here a little after sunrise and have been building all morning - 21 - 25 knots, 27 - 28 knot gusts from the NE.  The sea is solid whitecaps, and have only seen 2 boats all morning - both sail under motor and making slow progress.  Looks like the wind will die a little starting tomorrow, than back again mid-week.

- EARTHQUAKE/TSUNAMI
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>

As most in Anguilla know, the 7.3 mag. earthquake was felt here, but based on the depth of the quake, there are no tsunami warnings.  So far no damage reports from the Caribbean, but expect damage in Martinique, maybe a few cracked walls here.

- RAIN...AND LACK THEREOF!
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2007 12:34:04 -0400 (Atlantic Standard Time)
We had clouds around almost all day Sunday, but nothing came out of them - 0.02 in. - just about wet the ground.  Had a BIG downpour this morning - lasted all of 6.5 seconds!  Another 0.02 in.  Unless we have a heavy rain in the next 3 days, Nov. will be by far the driest month since I've been keeping records - 10 years.  So far, 0.23 in. for the entire month of November!  Average is 6.5 in. - least we have ever had before this is 2.4 in. in 2000. The water delivery services are lovin' life!

- THE RAINY SEASON?????
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2007 11:41:21 -0400 (Atlantic Standard Time)
October and November are supposed to be the "rainy season" here in Anguilla, but not this year.  Except for a few quick showers, we have had basically no rain here since 29 October - less than 0.1 in.  Our average for November is supposed to be 6.5 in.  Thank goodness we had a wet October (7.35 in.), but it is getting pretty dry - need to get the cistern topped off before the spring.  And based on todays radar, there is nothing on the horizon.

I've posted a couple of graphs at:

For anyone who follows this kind of stuff, there have been 5 earthquakes in the Caribbean region over the last 24 hours or so.  Had one off the coast of St. Lucia yesterday morning, 2 in the Mona Passage in the afternoon, then 2 last night in Virgin Gorda.  Are the Gods upset with us or something????

- ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>

It started raining at 2:00 AM this morning, and as of 7:30 PM, it's still raining. Not hard most of the day, but enough to keep people off the beaches.  The sky opened up about 15 minutes ago and it's coming down at the rate of 0.90 inches/hour - lots of rain.  0.93 inches since it started this morning, but 0.18 in last 15 minutes.  Storm just keeps getting bigger on satellite, but not moving much.  Guess no diving in the morning!

- HOW TO RUIN A GREAT DAY
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2007 12:23:26 -0400 (Atlantic Standard Time)

We here on the West End of Anguilla would like to thank our neighbors in St. Martin for letting their burning garbage dump get out of hand this morning.  Today started out beautiful until a few hours ago when our view of St. Martin became hazy - and then the "stink"! - the overpowering stench of burning garbage from St. Martin - worst I ever remember.  I'm sure the guests at Cap Juluca, Altamer and Cove Castles paying $1,000 ++ per day are really enjoying it.  Maybe some rain clouds in the east will help a little - or maybe make it worse (as in the smell of WET, burning garbage!!!)

Cheers,
