Greetings all from the Unspoiled Queen.
Rainfall amount for the month of March stands at 2 3/4" Not much but a help with cisterns and the foilage.
The new grey water cistern that was built close to the airport is full, it has a catchment of over a mile long.
Winds today are out of the ESE at about 8 kts, vis is +10 km and the temps are in the 80's.
Great day for the beach but our grains of sand are much bigger here than on the other carib islands.
Best regards.

- Rain, Garbage, Smoke and polatricks.
  • From: "Vincent Louise Vincent" <vin_lou at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2007 14:18:05 -0400
Saba is recieving much needed rain this morning,(it rained for about a half hour this morning) .
Polatricks are heating up all over the island, posters, stickers and flags are starting to colour the island. Party colours are blue and orange and these colours are mixing in with the tropical brown and green. (Starting to look like a fruit cake now LOL ).
Some residents have written concerning the garbage situation on the island and the poisonous smoke that fills the air when the site is burned and what it's is doing, and going to do to the residents and the school children of this island.
If I may add to that what happens to the run-off water when it rains heavy and where does this water go to if not to the sea.
This will eventually affect the marine life and not to mention the reverse osmossis water plant.
We all will one day or another be purchasing water from this plant.

On a lighter note.
Winds are N, NNE at this time and around 11kts, vis +10 km, temps 84 just another day on paradise.
Best regards Sue, Pete Lin,Joe and Roger,
Glad ur having some rain William.

Greetings all from the Unspoiled Queen.
Saba had some much needed rain last week, 1 3/4 " to be exact.
This has helped with the greenery and cisterns but much more is needed.
Sarahran haze has lifted some what and the ash from the volcanic island of Montserrat has also.
Winds are out of the ESE at about 15 kts and the vis is +10 km, seas are a bit on the choppy side but should also subside in the following days, temps in the mid 80's.

A small cruise ship should be making a call at Saba tomorrow with approx 600 tourists all will not come ashore but those that do will help out with the economy in one way or another.

- Happy Saba Day.

  • Date: Fri, 01 Dec 2006 06:47:43 -0400
Greetings all from The Unspoiled Queen.
Today is the 31st Saba Day celebration, I wonder what it will be called next year Saba Municiple Day, The annual trolling competition has been posponed until further notice, no reason was given by the commiteee of such. I guess it could be the wx as winds are very brisk today out of the ENE at about 20+ knots, but could also be some other reason who knows.
Rainfall for the month of November stands at 3 1/4 " and the island is still as lush and tropical as ever, temps are on the decline and some people are saying they are breaking out their blankets at night, sounds strange but this is what we call island winter.
Well we will take a spin to the harbor today and watch the Sea Scouts doing their wonderful presentation for the arriving Dignateries from over seas. Go Shanna. We will also be making various pit stops at the local booths that will be set up at the Harbour area and see what they have to offer.
Hello to Sue ,Lin and Roger you will miss this one.

Best regards.

For the month of October I measured a total of 13 1/2 " of rain fall and I am sure more was measured elsewhere on the island.
Mount Scenery is clear and all islands are visible at this time.
The rains of last month caused some landslides in the Wells Bay area and Troy Hill area, but from the info gathered all is cleared up.

Greetings all from the Unspoiled Queen.
Since my last post Saba has been recieveing more rain and so far for the month of October the rainfall now stands at 13 1/2 inches at my location. Today in the am the sun peeped through for awhile and now the skies are becoming overcast with sqalls in the distance. The present winds are south at 10 kts / 12 mph. The current barometric presure stands at 29.93 " / 1013.4 mb, visibility 10 km. There are rain showers approaching from the south and this can be seen on the meteo radar from Martinique. There have been a few reports of land slides close to the Bottom area and this is evedent by the amount of sand and rocks along the roads close to the Catholic church.
Winair has been on schedule today.

Best regards

Greetings all from the Queen.
The island is in much need of rainfall as for the month of September we have recieved only 2 1/2 inches. Wx has been hot as of late and a light trade wind trying to keep the island cool. Island life is good except when people come from other parts to realy try to make ones life misereble.
But they come and they go but they leave a mark from when they left.
Otherwise diving looks good and mountain climbing is at it's best.
Winds today are ESE at about 12 kts, visisbility + 10 miles and the temps are in the high eighties.
Hello to Sue and Lin.

Best to all

Greetings all.
This has been one of those days that as the song said 96 degrees in the shade real hot oh yea in the shade.
Thanks Anguilla we do catch a glimpse of ur wonderful island now and then.
Saba is in dire need of rain at this time as the brown is showing up amongst the green and the cisterns are slowly but surly going drier and drier. Winds have been calm for a few days and the vis has been great especially at night. (stars and other islands) Atlantic ocean seems to be starting to pick up her pace and all eyes should remain east of the islands at this time of year, although these himme/ hurricanes can form anywhere this time of year and beyond.

Saba has not seen much wx from Ernesto apart from a lightning display during the evening and night time hours, very little precip. Some swells could be seen down at Fort Bay Harbor which would be tipical during the passing of any weather system to the south and west of the island.
All Winair flights where on schedule and the ferry' also.
Heads up Jamaica.

Hello from the Saba Marine Park and Saba Conservation Foundation

After closing up the shutters, relocating and hauling up the boats and tying down all of those pretty yard gnomes, Chris took a detour north of Saba this week.  And we even got dressed up for the occasion!!!

Good thing the cisterns are pretty full already because the 17 drops of rain at my house didn't even make it to the eaves.  Maybe Vince has the precise measurement???  Total damage reported was a few dents to the neighbour's garbage can - although word on the street is that one of the goats thought it needed a little adjustment!

The dive boats are all back at work, Winair if flying again and the ferries are on-time.  All is right on the Unspoiled Queen.  I'll be checking out Wells Bay in the next few days to see if the sand beach is still spectacular.

Current (17:30 UTC) conditions are:

Temp - 82F / 28C
Wind - 1mph ESE
Bar - 30.22" / 767mm
Hum - 72%

Greetings all from The Unspoiled Queen. ( So Far ).
Rainfall for the month of May was 4 1/4 inches at my location, temps have been in the eighties all month, winds have been variale and calm to 15 kts with higher gusts at times during the month of May. Seas have been excellent for scuba diving and if one takes a drive down to the harbor u can see the satisfied scuba divers as they come ashore from their diving. The highest point in the Dutch Kingdom has been clear for weeks now and the hikers are also enjoying the scenery from Mount Scenery. The rains that have fallen during the month of May have helped with the foilage and the cisterns but more is needed.
Stay aleart and be ready hurricane season is here.
Ok Sue and Lin enjoy the wonderful weather.

Saba has received a total of 3 3/4 inches of rain for the month of May so far and the cisterns are staring to inch up somewhat. Dave was right on with his prediction a few days ago and a job well done to Dave. I noticed the price of water at his location is much cheaper than ours, here we would have had to pay at least $700.00 for the same amount. Wx today has been overcast and raining intermitently with some passing T -storms in the vicinity.
The sun appeared briefly late afternoon.

Hazy conditions have prevailed over the island these past few days with no precip what so ever. Winds have picked up somewhat and this brings a cool breeze over the island. Temps are on the warm side of 84 F.
Visibility is less than 10 miles.
Rain is needed as cisterns are going down rapidly.
Scuba diving and mountain climbing should be great or just relaxing pool side and having a few bevies sounds great.
