Well it would seem
that winter is arriving on Roatan. Last Thursday night the cold front that
brought the tornadoes to the eastern US bore down on us and blew through.
The only problem is it went stationary on top of us and there is a tropical wave
over the La Moskita interacting with it. Hence the phrase it'll rain for
40 days and 40 nights and winds of 45 mph. Why anyone would consider this
the high season in the western Caribbean is unknown to me. Check out the
website at www.lagovistascuba.com
and the webcam for stats and a live pictures.
Stay dry and
safe

Good
Afternoon,
After some prompting
by a reader I realized that the weather had been so quiet (thank the weather
gods for that) this year that I had not posted since August. The summer
here was very quiet, hot, dry and very still on Roatan. Even the start of
the rainy season was delayed until recently. Saturday night we watched as
a massive dark line moved down on us from the Northwest. The first cold
front of the year had arrived. The night was spent with a quaking dog
whining for comfort and the kitten curled up behind my knees under the sheets as
the lightning and thunder flashed
and boomed around us. Sunday the weather was chilly,
overcast with some drizzle but Monday arrived and with it the rain. Since
Saturday evening we have had over 6.70 inches of rain most of that on Monday
afternoon. The roads are no longer dusty but the mud is knee deep in
spots. We are still cloudy and the NHC says it is a tropical wave now that
is now over us but the rain has stopped for now.
The webcam and
weather station are up and working on www.lagovistascuba.com. Next time
I'll try and remember not to let so long a time lapse between
postings.
Take care and enjoy
the cool weather if it is affecting you.

- RE: Tropical wave |
|
We are in the midst
of a tropical wave moving over Roatan at this time. It is bringing rain,
gusty winds and cool temperatures. It is a delightful change from the hot,
humid weather we have had. From the size of the storm on the weather map
it looks like we will be in the clouds for a while.

Well, what a
change in the weather. Went to bed last night and it was hot, sticky and
calm. Woke up this morning to blustery winds out of the WNW at 25 mph
gusting higher. No rain just very overcast. Looks like this could
develop into a TD 1. Guess we just wait and see.

Dry, Dry, Dry.
I never thought after last years storms I would ever say we need rain but yes we
do. The island of Roatan is tinder dry. We have had numerous grass
fires all over the island as locals hunt the iguana and the fires get out of
control. Many local village wells are drying up and cisterns are draining
down. All the roads off the main roads are so dusty you have to stay way
behind the car in front of you or can not see. So I hereby wish for rain -
not a hurricane please no, not again, but blessed rain!!!
Webcam is up and
running at www.lagovistascuba.com -
Also there is an archive of all last years storms for
viewing
Till next
time
