On Wednesday it was overcast, and again yesterday with a few showers thrown in.  Since last evening gentle rain has been falling, no wind, and warm and humid.  Just perfect for the gardens and foliage.  My dead straw lawn has already got huge patches of beautiful green showing through. This last three months have been so dry so this is wonderful.

Today just has to be the most perfect weather day for the year.  Since the dawn broke followed by a glorious sunrise, it has been the best.  There is a gentle breeze blowing, full sun shining in an azure blue cloudless sky, with no humidity.  The temperature at a comfortable 85 degrees.

Absolutely fantastic weather here in Barbados this last few days.  Sunny, breezy, and hot during the day with clear nights - so many stars and constellations visible. Just great for sleeping with windows wide open.  This ends for me on Monday as I am heading to Toronto Canada for 1 week - where they expect the nights to be around 22 degrees below freezing. It's going to be a shock to my system that's for sure!!

Well, it seems as though the rain gods have set Barbados in their sights...It's been raining off an on all week, and today, it's been POURING since 4:45/5:00 AM . Up to the time of this posting, no signs of letting up anytime soon.  As usual, when we are hosting an event of any kind, it rains.  This is the week of the Barbados Jazz Festival, and we will hear the sounds of Macy Gray, Anita Baker, Reuben Studdard amongst others, and most people are gearing up to attend the outdoor portion on the weekend.  However, if this persists, I question what the turnout will be like.  Fingers crossed people..!!

The weather in Barbados today was perfect - sunny breezy and warm.  The night looks clear for all those wonderful firework displays. Wishing everyone in the Carribean islands and all who read our reports - a very happy and safe New Years and all the best for 2007.

Did someone do a rain-dance?  Geez!  We've had so much rain lately that the earth appears saturated.  Not sure how much more we can take.  And the poor Golfers, my how I feel their pain.  Barbados is hosting the Golf World Cup this weekend and we are all praying for an exciting time, but with the rain falling as it is, I wonder how much of the sport we'll see.  Oh well, guess we can't question Mother Nature...

The weather men in Barbados have many different descriptions for us every day, this past week or so.  We have had a ITCZ, a frontal trough, an upper trough, and today we have a front. It all means basically the same to us, cloudy, cool with showers and sometimes heavy rainfalls.  The sun at this very moment is peeping out but by the looks of the sky it isn't staying.  Tomorrow is our 40th birthday for Independence.  I really do hope that tonight, with all the concerts and celebrations beginning and then into tomorrow that the rain stays away, so everyone can party without carrying along an umberella.  Happy Birthday Barbados.

Here in Barbados this past two days we have had more than our fair share of thunder/lightening and heavy heavy rains due to a trough system passing over us. The temperature has been very cool.  Seems to be the order of the day that my friends and I are also trying to catch up on laundry just in case there is more to come.

Wow, what a difference a couple of hours makes...Of all the days you don't want it to rain, but it does. You know, the days when activities are planned...Must be Murphy's Law or something.  Seriously though, yesterday the sun was blaaaaaaaazing!!  One step out of the air conditioned office and I wanted to run back in...I should have known that was a sign of things to come....It's been raining off and on since about 11:30pm last night and here it comes again.  One can only hope this is the last of the it for the day....Maaaaannn, nothing like the rain to spoil a good thing...

Barbados has another beautiful sunny breezy day.  Just wonderful for everyone! An update on yesterdays seven hour island wide power outage - it apparently was started by a monkey on a 24,000 volt main line at Codrington Hill - St. Michael. It was a disaster for Hotels, businesses, schools, banks and just everyone in general.  You can imagine an island with no traffic lights. Even some of the water pumps stopped so some people had a double wammy with no water supply either.  Basically the whole island shut down. We didn't get full power back everywhere until after 1pm. Nothing has been mentioned about the monkey's fate but I would assume he is not around today.

This morning in Barbados it was just beautiful, sunny and quite breezy.  These last three nights have been perfect for sleeping, quite cool with the wind blowing through my windows.  For the first time in a very long time we have had an island power outage - I have no idea what caused it yet - but everyone was out for over 4 hours.  It has just been restored on the South Coast 20 minutes ago, hopefully it stays on.

The rain has just started to fall - for the last two hours on the South Coast we are having tremendous lightening flashes and the thunder is just rolling and rolling - the dogs are barking non-stop. The tree frogs are singing as hard as they can - so.... I would guess we are in for a rainy Friday night.

It is late afternoon, and still reading 35C or 95F at the airport.  Has been an extremely hot sunny day with little or no wind out of the SE.  Some parishes on the island had rain accompanied with rumbles of thunder this morning. The satellite still shows we could have some rain overnight.  Hope it cools off at for sleeping...

The last 2 days have been dreadfully H-O-T!  But, around 11:00 AM the skies darkened considerably and just before Noon the lighthing flashed and knocked out power for about 20 minutes in my area, the thunder rolled and then the faucet opened, albeit only for about a half-hour.  However, this has brought some welcomed relief to those us who have had to suffer through the intense heat the last few days.  Fingers crossed that this relief will remain for at least a couple of days.

Today in Barbados the weatherman called for mainly cloudy skies with showers.  That did not happen - instead we have been under a blistering sun all day with NO wind at all - hot-hot-hot.. temps at the airport - 4pm with heat index 95 F but feels much more than that.

Good morning from Barbados.  These last few days in Barbados have been uncomfortably hot and sticky.  We have had a few showers here and there.  Over night at the airport 20 mm of rain fell but I think here on the South Coast it sounded much more than that.  At dawn the thunder and lightening went through with quite a loud performance.  Now the tree frogs are singing their heads off and it is drizzling, but the sun is trying hard to come through.  Today feels like it will be another sticky day with a few thunder showers thrown in.  The mosquitoes are really bad this last couple of weeks - they seem to have no special time clock to bite, like dusk and sunrise.

- Raining consistently

Hello from St Philip in Barbados.

Just after 12 noon it has been raining fairly consistently. Wind gusts reported up to 51 miles per hour and a swift wind of about 33 mph during the day but not constantly.

My area has now become saturated with water which is ponding on the surface.

A colleague in St George reported a brief power outage ... my power remains on but (as usual) my dry weather DirecTV refuses to show. A little bit of rains and it recoils like a turtle in a shell.

Forgot some bedroom windows open on the western side of my house and when the wind changed direction so too did the rain .. my curtains are soaking wet, literally dripping from the driving rain.

Very happy for the good weather, though.

Greetings from soggy Barbados.  At 2:45 it is still raining here, albeit somewhat lighter in itensity.  I happened to take a glance outside my window around 1:30 and saw water moving rather quickly down the incline.  Had I not known a road existed, I would have sworn I was on the other side of some rapids.  Reports reaching me indicate that the system is intensifying, so my Caribbean brothers and sisters, please pay close attention!

- Weather conditions in Barbados

Hello Gert,
It is now 1.45 p.m. in Barbados. From around 10.00 this morning we have been experiencing intermittent heavy squalls and rain over the entire island, though the frequency and intensity of the showers (really downpours or as we say in Barbados 'bucket a drop') have increased since mid day. The barometer too is falling slightly, now at 1009.7.  This system is nearly at tropical storm strength and may even be Ernesto already.  Since historical patterns show that almost every system which affects Barbados goes on to hit Jamaica, people there should be on the look out, as this thing looks like it is destined to become a hurricane.
Regards,
Karl Watson

The rain continues to fall - being driven with the high winds - chilly!! Dark and visibility bad enough for all the street lights to have come on. My garden of many levels, quite flooded.  When the dogs wake up to go outside they will need rubber boots. The noise of the rains bouncing on the roofs deafening, and the cascading waterfalls overspilling the guttering forceful. The tree frogs are quite happy singing at the top of their lungs. Happy to be indoors!

Wow!  Looks like someone opened the faucet this afternoon and forgot to turn it off completely...We've had intermittent showers since morning with a few peeks of sunshine..But about an hour or so ago, it rained heavily accompanied with some rumbles of thunder.  We'll just have to wait and see how the remainder of the afternoon pans out.

Today in Barbados it is Hot Hot Hot -Wind?!  from the SE at 4 mph and the skies are just brillant blue - the sweat just pours out as you move around. With heat- humidex feels like 37 degrees celsius at 3pm. Hottest day so far for this hurricane season on the South Coast anyway.

This last week or so we have some fantastic weather here in Barbados not humid or anything. On the Kadooment long weekend which has just passed the winds were blowing and the sun hot - perfect for the carnival.  Last night we had some heavy downpours and Barbados is watching very carefully what is approaching us from the East, this morning.  The weather man says only a very strong tropical wave to pass today and tonight but it sure looks impressive from the satellite pictures. Will let you know what it has in store for us as it passes over.

What started this morning as a very large tropical wave approaching from the east heading for Barbados has fizzled out this afternoon.  What we have had is a few short showers and we will probably have a few more showers intermittently tonight. Other than that, the winds are still blowing quite strong and it is quite damp and chilly.  Great for sleeping.

The tropical wave now passing over us since early afternoon is giving us just gentle rain fall.  Looks like it could be with us through the night. This last couple of days we have had some odd showers with the heat too, so this is a welcome relief especially for the grass and foliage which has been in dire need of water for many weeks now.
