- Gamma still pounding us |
|
I know the NHC downgraded Gamma, but I think someone forgot to tell Gamma. We on Roatan (south side, anyway) are getting rain at over 1/2 inch an hour, 30+ mph wind out of the NW, and the barometer falling. Looking at the latest satellite images, Gamma sure seems to be forming a very well defined circular pattern to our northeast! We have been luckier with our power than Fran and Charlie on the north side, but that can always change. Yesterday morning we had a number of good sized trees down across our road, some from wind but most from saturation, with the entire root balls coming out of the ground. I just made it in from Houston yesterday during a brief clearing period and Susan tells me it lasted all of about 7 hours. Regards, Mike Saunders |

Good Morning from
soggy Roatan,
Well things are
beginning to calm down here. The rain has stopped. We had a total of
4.4 inches over the course of the storm. The winds are down to an average
of 29 with gusts to 35 mph. The sun is trying to come out and maybe we
will dry out later. The only problem is power. We have had no
electricity since 9:30 pm last night and there is no sign of it
being restoring soon. So we are on generator for now. Will
maintain it for a while if anyone wants to look at the webcam but we may have to
shut down later.
Hope this is the
last storm of the year.

|
Well the NHC/TPC
finally found out where Roatan is. The storm is just to our east and
since we are on the North east side of Roatan we are really getting the full
brunt of the storm. Winds are averaging 45 mph and top gusts of 60 are
registering. Rain has slackened off a bit but we have not been able to get
out to see about the rest of the island. The roads are washed out or so
muddy as to make them impassable.
There is a new video
on the website taken around 11 am CST today and we are still up and running with
the webcam although the power was off for about 4 hours this morning. we
still have enough LP for the generator for a while so we'll stay up as long as
we can.

|
Good Morning
everyone,
Well if
you read the National Hurricane Center report it would seem that this
system is forming right over us and I'd believe it. The winds have been on
a steady rise all night and the rain has been falling. The rain is falling at
the rate of 2.5 inches per hour when a squall comes through. The wind is
blowing at a 10 minute average of 35 mph, gusts of 43 mph with a peak gust at 5
am CST of 47 mph. Everything is getting blown around a bit but
no damage to anything yet.
Stay
dry

- RE: Remnants of TD 27 |
|
Good
afternoon,
This has been an
unbelievable year. We are now experiencing the remnants of TD 27 combined
with a low pressure area that formed off the coast. We have had torrential
rains and gusty winds since last night. Rain is falling at the rate
of 2.6 inches per hour and winds are a steady 33 mph gusting
to 44 mph. Once again you can view this on the webcam at www.lagovistascuba.com or view the
short video we took this afternoon.
Stay dry (if
possible)

- RE: Beta |
|
Good
morning,
Beta thankfully
moved further south in Nicaragua and is just giving us a good rain. We
need it to wash the burning salt off the vegetation after Wilma. Winds are
36 mph gusts to 50 all out of the North and rain is falling at the rate of just
under 2 inches per hour.
There is a new video
posted on www.lagovistascuba.com
under current weather - Beta video. Some was taken lat yesterday as Beta
approached the rest just now taken his morning. Also the live webcam
is running.

- Beta dumping rain on Roatan |
|
Just woke up to a massive rain storm that is pounding us from the north.
The rain is coming down at almost 2 inches per hour. Winds are 38 miles an
hour with a max of 50 according to the weather station up island
(www.lagovistascuba.com). Looking at the NHC radar it looks like Beta is
just about to make landfall and will hopefully slow down a bit then. Beta
is 309 miles from Roatan at the moment. The new track takes it down across
Nicaragua and to the Pacific.

- Beta Update from Roatan |
|
Hi All!Here on Roatan it is now night. We had mostly overcast skys to day with the wind sometimes still while other times it came in gusts. We are keeping an eye on Beta but it looks like it will pass south of us through the mainland. This being said we live on the south side of the island. The north side took a beating from the waves from Wilma and today when my wife was over on the other side the waves had already started to pick up. No one was at the beach or one diving that side. Not much in the way of rain here yet. It will be interesting to see how much we get and what the waves in the bay will do. - RE: Beta |

We just seemed to
have recovered from Wilma and now we have Beta on our doorstep. All
projections take this storm over the VERY mountainous inland which should
weaken it considerably. The major problem will be the flooding and washed
out villages. This is very similar to what happened with Mitch when
thousands of lives were lost. We can hope that it is not as bad
as Mitch and our prayers go out to the mainlanders.
Right now we cloudy
and very breezy with winds 28 mph with gusts to 33 out of the
north.

Sorry about the
interruption. We lost power on the island about 3 am this morning and it
didn't come back till about 1 pm. Turned off the generator to conserve
fuel.
After a terrible
night and very windy morning things seem to be calming down here. This
morning we had an average wind speed of 45 mph and gusts to 67 now we are at 35
mph gusts to 50 and still falling. No rain in several
hours.
We have just posted
a new video on the website taken this morning of the ocean from our deck -
enjoy

Woke up this morning
to winds from the Southwest and our boat and dock gone. Trees down and
lots of branches and debris all over the area. Our local village has
lost a couple of roofs but thankfully no injuries or lost lives. The
switch to the other side of the storm really seemed to be the worst for
us. Winds now 45mph gusting to 66 from the SW. very little
rain since last night. Our hopes and prayers go to the people of the
Yucatan and then Florida we have seen the bad side of Wilma.

|
well it seems that
Wilma is passing to the north of us. We are still getting winds and rain
from the North and Northwest but have been seeing a change to the south and
southwest with gusts recently. Believe we have seen the worst
pass for us. It is still very blustery and will still get some rain
and wind but Wilma is on her way north now - still wringing out towels and will
see what happens in the morning but for now we seem to be in okay. Good
luck to Cozumel, Cancun and Florida

We continue to feel
the force of Wilma. Expect to feel the worst within the next few hours
here. Averaging 40-45 MPH and gusts 50 - 60 mph. Rain is continuing
at 5 inches per hour. New addition to website - go to current weather and
there is a Wilma video. This is a composite of the last 24
hours.

Good Morning,
Wow from a cat 1 to 5 overnight. We are really feeling the force of the
storm this morning. Winds are 37 mph with gusts to 51 from the NW, rain is
falling at the rate of 2 to 5 inches per hour. Only one power failure so
far about 30 minutes this morning - hooray to RECO. Website and webcam up
for now. Have to go wring out some towels - will post
later

Wilma continues to
dump heavy rain on us. Sorry about the website and webcam being down but
we had about 20 minutes of intense lightning and as you know that does great
things to electronics. Winds continue to be 31 mph out of the WNW and
gusts to 46. Rain has increased to 2.5 inches per hour. Will post if
anything changes overnight

Good Afternoon from
Roatan, Bay Islands of Honduras. Wilma is making herself know to
us right now. We have had rain on and off for the last 2 days but
since about 11 am it has been raining and blowing constantly. We are in a
feeder band on the southwest side of the storm now. Wind is 31 mph gusting
to 46 mph out of the northwest. Raining is falling at the rate of 1.6
inches per hour. The storm is predicted to move to the northwest but one
of the hurricane center forecasters said the "M" word this morning -
Mitch. Its been almost 7 years to the week since that storm devastated
Guanaja and mainland Honduras and we are all just praying and hoping Wilma does
move NW and not decide to pull a reverse on us. The webcam is up and
running at www.lagovistascuba.com
and will be on line as long as we have power and the enough fuel for the
generator.

- Re: TD 20 |
|
Well for us on
Roatan the summer has been very quiet after Emily passed. Now TD 20 has
developed just to our north and we are being drenched by rain. We had over
1.5 inches yesterday and as my weather station tells me "Its raining cats and
dogs" out there now. Winds are gusting to 24 mph out of the WNW. The
webcam is up at www.lagovistascuba.com for anyone
interested in seeing sheets of rain. Our family in East Texas survived
Rita with only losing a few shingles but still have no power so we hope this
storm tracks as the NHC says and into Mexico and doesn't do anymore damage to
the Gulf Coast. Stay dry

Well so much for a
light brush and a lovely day in paradise. The temp has dropped, wind out
of the North at 21mph gusts to 31mph and rain should arrive
shortly.

- RE: Emily |
|
It is a beautiful
day on Roatan. Warm, sunny and with a very light breeze out of the
NNW. If you look at the webcam you can just see the farthest outer bands
of the hurricane. We may a rain shower later but a very light brushy
here.

Hola or hello from
Roatan, one of the Bay Islands of Honduras. Weather is sunny, warm and a
great breeze from the southeast. Watching closely the progress of
Emily. We are normally outside of the hurricane belt but as we all know
anything can happen - Mitch in 1998. Anyone wanting to view the current
weather can visit www.lagovistascuba.com and follow the
weather links. This is a webcam set up looking over the northeast shore of
Roatan.
Bye for
now
