- DID I MISS SOMETHING???
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>

Is there maybe a depression out there I missed?  Over the past hour, we have had wind gusts to 41 knots from the SSW, and torrential rain - so far an inch and still coming down.  The house is flooded (windows on the west side leak), and my banana plants are now on the ground.  Doesn't look like it will end soon.  Luckily I moved the boat to the north side and it's pretty well protected.

- RAIN- AND MORE RAIN

With another inch of rain last night, our dry little island is about to sink with all the rain.  We've had 4.9 in. of rain in 3 days - that's 12.5% of our TOTAL ANNUAL rain!  And although there is a little sunshine this morning, still lots of rain clouds on the horizon!  But looks like it's all moving out.

- STRANGE ANGUILLA WEATHER
  • From: "Steve Donahue" <steve at anguilla-weather.com>
  • Date: Thu, 15 Sep 2005 15:25:33 -0400 (Atlantic Standard Time)

For the THIRD DAY in a row, today we have had large thunderstorms form just off the western tip of Anguilla.  Each afternoon for several hours, there is loud thunder and lightening - and today even a beautiful waterspout - but not a drop has fallen on land.  Each day - including right now - we can see the rain falling on the sea, the sky turns black, but nothing on land.  To the east, the sky is blue with just a few clouds, and winds are very light.  This month we can use the rain (0.61 so far)

Cheers,

- THE WIND IS GONE

Had some real steady wind here for the first time in months during the night - high teens - low twenties all night with higher gusts - and woke up to what looked like a GREAT windsurfing day. Headed for the beach around 9 to get in some good sailing - you guessed it - no wind.  Right now, the 10 minute average is down to 9 knots - and dropping.  Still clouds around, but plenty of sunshine, too.  Some serious rain/thunder/lightening in the channel and in St. Martin yesterday, but not much here - only 0.23 in., spread out over 3 - 4 small showers.

We also had the small wave pass by here last night.  We had cloudy, rainy weather most of yesterday/last night with distant thunder/lightening, heavy rain, and a 31.3 knot (36 mph) gust about 10:00 pm. - 0.92 in. of rain for the day.  Clouds and hazy sun today, but looks like better weather is moving in.

- WHAT'S GOING ON???

Well, Emily might be 300 miles to our south, but we are having some unreal weather right now.  Pouring rain, some distant thunder, but wind gust just up to 40 knots (46 MPH) - steady at 25 - 35 knots.

Can't believe we still have power!

The good news is that the forecast path has now moved just a little more to the south in the past 24 hours.  Closest point of approach is now forecasted to be  173 mi. to the SSW sometime around 10:00 - 11:00 PM Thursday night.  I think we can expect a few squalls and some winds of around 20 - 25 knots - nothing really earthshaking.

BUT....as always, they have been known to be wrong.  I'd watch it pretty close in the next 24 - 36 hours for any change. But right now, it's a beautiful day here in Anguilla

Maybe we'll FINALLY get some decent windsurfing weather on Thursday!!!

Based on the 5:00 AM advisory, looks like the closest point of approach to us will be 152 miles to the SSW around 2:00 AM Thurs.  With tropical force winds predicted to extend out 60 miles to the NE, we should be fine.  BUT... there is a large margin of error in 4 - 5 day forecast, so this one needs watching.  If it starts going a little more north (currently not predicting that), could be a problem.
