Hi I'm finally back on line. I had no power from 1:30am wed to 7;30 pm on Thurs. I also have no generator as of yet. But it wasn't too long without power. I just saved $3500.00 this year. I do need one though. Possibly next year. I am sending some pictures of my back yard. This only part of it. I had 4 trees blown down . Both sides of my fence have been flattened in spots. Both of my dogs spent the whole night out side. They are guard dogs. I have never let them in before and they didn't even want in in a tropical storm. Good Dog, Good Dog!!!. Last night I had a guy with a big white pit bull trying to get my dogs to go out of the fence to fight his dog for practice at 3:00am. That is the worst thing on the west end during Tropical storm Jeane. I hope to have video soon .

Jeanne strongest approach to St. Croix seemed to have been around 3-4AM, yet there were very heavy showers around 7-8AM.  Besides a few trees laying low and lots of loose leaves, we seemednt to hae weathered the storm Ok.  The power went out around 11PM last night due to fallen branches, but power is being restored quickly today.

As of 7:30PM tonight, we ares still getting some sporadic heavy showers from the system, but with no associated wind.  The system will soon cross Puerto Rico and will be probably become a Cat1 hurricane when it reaches open water by tomorrow AM.

It is really blowing out there.  The rain started around 11PM and droplets are coming down horizontally.  In the screen capture below, you can note the gust of 85.2 mph at 2:24 AM.  The associated noise woke us up.

TS Jeanne is in the area. On the eastern part of St. Croix, there was some lighting visible from the south of the island about a half hour ago. The winds have picked up a bit but still no rain yet. There have been some gusts.

Correction of the barometric pressure on previous message; it should read 29.53 in Hg.

Surprisingly, there is no rain yet, but I took a last stroll with the dog, the wind was steady and the leaves were whistling.

There was a gust of wind clocked at 60.6 mph around 10:30PM, and the barometer is down to 20.53 in Hg.

The rain should start any time soon.

As of 8PM, rainfall has been minimal so far, but the wind is becoming constant, averaging about 30 mph in the last 3 hours, with a peak gust of 49 mph at one point.

The radio reports the center about 65 miles SE of the island, advancing at about 10 knots/hr.  Predictions are for heavy rainfall in the next 6-10 hours.

I will keep you updated.

Just reporting in from St. Croix. The wind and rain are coming in
intermittent spurts. I have my horses ready, and we have put our sheep
pastures on storm alert (let them all go out to pasture-they can get out to
the way of flying debris and hunker down). I would like to remind everyone
to make sure their animals are tagged and easy to id.. You can spray paint
phone numbers on horses or use the livestock grease marking sticks. It
hopefully won't be necessary, but better safe than sorry.

My mom may have both kids going through storms at the same time as my
brother is in Pensacola.
Yikes!!!

Out of nowhere come TD #11, which should start to affect us starting tonight.  In preparation, most schools have either cancelled their classes or will be closing at noon today.  At the present, pressure around 29.60 and winds are around 15/20 MPH.  I'll send updated information when available.

Greetings from St. Croix. We've been lucky so far haven't we. As I look at Td 11 it kind of looks like it is just sitting out there getting wound up ready for a strike. The local weather here is mostly talking about Ivan. Not really saying much about TD 11. Personally it looks kind of bad to me on the satellite. The Weather Channel calls for 30-50 mph winds and over 2 inches of rain here today, into tonight. The center is currently at about 16n, 60w. It is hot and sunny right now. Keep an eye on the Satellite pix and I'll keep in touch if it gets any closer. I'm personally starting to get concerned. Everybody else here is not so concerned yet. Hmmmmmmm?

After dodging hurricane Frances, we are warily watching the tracks of Ivan, forecast to pass south of us by Wed next week.  We hope the storm will not inflict any damage to any island on its path.

Frances has definately sucked the  breeze up....everything on st. croix is fine....maybe a little rainy on tuesday and breezy...best of luck to my neighbors on st. thomas, st. john  and puerto rico which seems like the outlook is tropical storm warnings  than hurricane watches ,,,nature has her own way of living and sometimes  we have to step aside and let her step inside...let's just hope we are all prepared when she knocks on our door...best of luck to the bahamas and the u.s.

Things seem cool here on STX. Looks like we are going to miss this one. St Thomians are flocking here for the next few days though. I saw at least 10, $1,000,000.oo Yachts entering the harbor this afternoon from STT. We are finally getting some rain. We have been in a drought all summer.

Things are getting a lto closer to the peak of the hurricane season for STX. Hugo, the worst hurricane in recent memory hit here in 1989, on the 14 th of Sept. Destroyed the place . It looks like Frances is going on a a compass heading of 300 deg. right now at 49w. I was looking at some past storms on the net and some turn due west at about 17 deg, but never head south. STX in on 17.46 deg. north. The computer models say that is a 40% chance it will hit us. That means a 60% chance it will miss to the north. Not to the south. They never go south around here. People are not too worried here yet. They are waiting until Saturday afternoon to do that. It is too hot today.

Earl is well south of us. Tonight just a small amount of rain. It was windy all day. Gusts to 25mph.Looks like earl is going to miss us for now. I am keeping a close eye on Daniell though. It is supposed to go north of us but the things are hard to predict. Nobody is too worried about any storms here yed. September is just arround the corner though. For STX that means the heart of the Hurricane season.

Charlie is gone for now. Later in the year (Sept) storms like Charlie come back to haunt us here on STX. We didn't even get a drop of rain out of Charlie. The winds gusted to 30 knts. two or three times over the past few days but not much acction.

We can all see it coming from St Lucia. It has just started to rain here (12:25 p.m.) The weather chanel says that the disturbance could , "most likely go south of the USVI and PR." Probably alot of rain for STX and PR. Not much wind. Now the sun is coming out and it is getting hot. ( 90 deg/100% humidity, still, no rain((1:57 p.m.)). Nobody is worrying too much about this one. It tends to get much more serious arround hare in lant August through Ocotber.
