---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 14 Sep 2004 06:39:40 -0800 From: Hunderg Growndnick <underground_AT_belcher.com> Well right now Monday 13/10:15am, in Habana, time is really bad, sky is totally gray, with sporadic rain, and winds. You can see clouds at 300m from the ground moving fast to north at a 50, 70km/h. I havenīt felt here the real power of the hurricane... like Charley. There was a light cut las night, about 2hours. But in fact the weather is really sporadic. You can see calm for a while, and suddenly 100km/h winds, lot of rain, later just rain, for a while wind, and again suddenly, calm... really weird... havenīt seen any disaster over here... not even a broken tree. Will keep you posted. Reporting from Marianao municipality. Hund. |

It seem that this part of town has born the brunt of Charlie. Trees and power lines down every ware, however in true Cuban spirit everyone out cleaning up. The sea is very quiet considering what is taking place in the gulf, no waves breaking over the sea wall. The power is now back on in central Havana so hopefully they will get the rest of the grids up and running shortly. Attached are some photos from around the place. Just been for a drive around the eastern Havana beach suburb of Tarara and found the damage to be minimal. Many branches down however all trees appear to be standing straight. Seems we have been spared the wrath Charlie this side of town. I will take a drive to west Havana later in the day and report back. Regards Michael Connolly |
