National Hurricane Committee Meeting Tentatively Set for This Week

THE BOTTOM, Saba (SGIS) – Lt. Governor Antoine Solagnier is hoping to organize the first National Hurricane Committee meeting this week.  Solagnier told the Saba Government Information Service (SGIS) that preparations for the season have been on-gong.

“Personnel from the Department of Public Works have been busy checking out government buildings.  Certain things have to be looked at.  Some observations have also been made with regards to pieces of the old airport building that are at the Cove Bay.

“Also in the same area, there is an old building that once served as a restaurant which is a concern for us and a potential threat to nearby structures.  Owners and operators of a business place in the village of Windwardside have also related their concern about the ruins at Captains Quarters, which could pose a threat to homes and businesses in the area.

“The business owners have been given permission to remove old rafters from one building at Captains Quarters while Public Works has been given the okay to take down another wooden building which has been deemed a hazard to the Windwardside community.

“We have to take pro-active measures in order to safeguard public safety and to protect homes and buildings from hazards during the threat of a hurricane,” Lt. Governor Antoine Solagnier who is also Chairman of the Emergency Operations Center, told SGIS.
