The weather here in St. Lucia is horrible ...... Flooding in the east coast village of Dennery, some roofs have been blown down in the higher elevations, fallen trees and power outages in some areas. Currently, according to surface observations, it seems as if Lili is alot stronger than the NHC claims it to be. This storm is behaving like a hurricane. Presently, winds are gusting in the order of 50 - 60 mph and appear to be getting stronger.  Surprisingly, not much rain has fallen as yet but the satellite pictures are indicating that this may change during the evening.
Lets hope that our friends in the other islands especially Barbados are doing well right now.

We are still in pretty good shape here in St. Lucia at 9am. Barely a drop of rain had fallen overnight and winds were NE at 5 - 15mph for the most part. So far this morning, only a couple squall lines have move through. One just before 6am and the other about 7am. The latter producing wind gusts to about 30 - 40mph and a large tree nearby had a large branch broken off by the gusts. Right now though the winds are continuing to blow from the E - NE at about 20 - 25mph with higher gusts.

Not much interest in this one if the number of boats that have taken shelter in Marigot Bay  by 8 AM is any indication.

TD #13 at 5pm today was located at 12.1 north, 54.0 west or about 330 miles ESE of Barbados. Moving westwards at 23mph. Winds are about 35mph with gusts to 45mph. The system will most likely pass very near or just to the north of Barbados about midday on Monday and then move on towards St. Lucia and Martinique by late Monday afternoon as a tropical depression or a minimal tropical storm. Tropical storm watches have been issued for Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Presently, the winds have shifted from the east to the north-east at about 5 - 10mph with higher gusts in showers. Showers have been very infrequent today but when they did come they were rather heavy but brief.

The forward edge of the system is already approaching Barbados and will spread over the remainder of the Windward Islands within the next few hours.

SAINT LUCIA IS PREPARING FOR A HIT FROM TD 13. The worrisome feature will be rain and flooding in low lying areas. The current winds of 35 kts do not seem to threatening. It will pass tomorrow night. Why always at night?

Yesterday and today were typically beautiful days, the Caribbean was like glass, the proverbial calm before the storm.

Hi all
Looks as though Dolly will miss us but the stillness of the
air humidity and relatively low pressure 1014mb makes it
feel hot.

In the old pre-internet days, I would have looked at the
clouds in the sky these past 4 days and felt the weather and
said "there is some weather was out there somewhere" . Its
nice to know in these days of technology, I have not lost my
ability to detect weather via "weather lore".

Keep safe northern neighbours

Marcus

Mid-afternoon satellite imagery is indicating that thunderstorm activity associated with a strong tropical wave/low located at about 9 north, 26 west or approximately 450 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands continues to increase and get better organized. This disturbance might have already reached tropical depression strength and most likely will be upgraded to T.D. #4 by 5pm today.

A new system will be emerging off West Africa later today.

A tropical wave raced through today bringing with it more wind than rain. The coconut and palm tress suffered a severe beating at times from the wind which occasionally gusted from the ESE in excess of 25 - 30kts.

The next disturbance is a 1012mb low currently located near 10n 33w and bears watching and the 39th tropical wave of the 2002 hurricane season is emerging off W.Africa this evening. ( i decided to count them this year )

What is that thing emerging off West Africa?? I think we can label it as pre-Bertha for now.

Also another wave about 1400 miles east of us seems to be acquiring more thunderstorms tonight. It needs to be monitored closely.

Surely seems like an early start to the heated part of the season this year.....

Well it seems as if the 2002 hurricane season is well on its way. The first Tropical Storm of the season, Arthur, is nearing hurricane strenght with winds now near 60mph. Thankfully, it most likely will not affect any land masses and will instead be of interest only to shipping.

The tropical wave near 50 west will bring increased showers and thunderstorms to the Windward Islands by Tuesday afternoon. Nothing unusual. We got plenty of it on Saturday from the last wave which passed through. About 1.5 - 2 inches of rain in most areas.

Today was a beautiful day ! ....
